4th wedding of the season, I go into Potomac Bridals, and I’m treated as a stupid man who doesn’t know what size tux I wear. I tell them repeatedly that I wear a 44R. They order me a 43R. The wedding is Friday. I’m in Baltimore, so it takes me 90 minutes to get out to Hagerstown, so I call on Tuesday, knowing that they close at 5, and ask if the stuff is in, so I can try it on. Nope. They’re closed on Wednesdays. I go to the shop on Thursday, and, shocking no one, my jacket is the wrong size. The grooms shirt is wrong. Another groomsman’s tux is completely wrong. The reason I’ve gone 2 stars instead of 3? The stress. The groom did not need this stress. They could have stayed open later on Tuesday. They could have communicated more thoroughly. Instead, they knew they had our money, and that we were out of time, and out of options. Thanks, Potomac Bridals.

I made an appointment here and went with two bridesmaids. When I pulled into the parking lot, I was a little hesitant to go inside. The pavement was cracked and terrible looking, the green area surrounding was all weeds. I was definitely reluctant to go in. They used to be in a beautiful old building in downtown Hagerstown. So my first suggestion is that they invest in re-doing their parking lot so they don’t scare customers away! I went inside right at my appointment and was shocked. It was absolutely beautiful inside! I was greeted by Sue, who was going to help me try on the dresses for the day. She was WONDERFUL! I picked out 5 dresses myself and tried them on, and then she picked out some that she thought I would like based on my previous choices. Everything she picked was wonderful! She had amazing taste! Even the sashes and veils. AND it was all around my budget, maybe a tad over, but I had wiggle room. They have a layaway option which was great for my budget. I went on a Saturday morning and there was no one else in the shop. Overall I did not end up finding my dress here because I found it at the very next shop, but I definitely had every intention of taking my mom back to show here the few that I really liked. All and all, great experience. I HIGHLY recommend Sue.

Don’t use them if you are not physically in Hagerstown! My parents live in Hagerstown and I am planning my wedding from Austin, TX. My mom who is completely clueless about all of this wedding stuff(I’m her first) went in to ask for alterations. They told her, «We cannot do measurements unless you are a customer.» She also said, «let’s just put it this way, they were not pleasant to me.» I found a mother of the bride dress for my mom online and wanted to use Potomac Bridal for myself(I’m flying home in one week). I will look elsewhere in the D.C. area. Wedding Wire won’t let you write a review unless you have signed a contract…

I loved the shop. I originally came here with my sister to find a bridesmaid dress for her wedding. They were great and we found cute dresses for her wedding. So naturally when I got engaged a year or so later I came here to shop for my dress. I had a small budget so I was limited to the sale rack. I was able to find my dream dress that day and the saleswoman was very helpful. She held the dress for me and let me pay in chunks – it was great. It goes south when I chose a seamstress recommended by Potomac. I was very displeased with the seamstress, Alterations by Dawn. And after I had picked up my dress from Dawn, I took it to Potomac to get steamed. I told the woman at Potomac of my poor experience with Dawn and she says«oh yeah we don’t recommend her anymore…» Well that would’ve been nice to know especially because I stopped at Potomac the day I had my appointment with Dawn. So they didn’t warn me about that. Then I get my dress home after picking it up from them steaming it and there’s a note with it. «There’s a spot on the right chest that I missed. :(«My thinking is… if you missed it, why not clean it instead of writing a note about it??? So I call to ask about it and the woman says«Oh that was for the person who was supposed to clean it… you can bring it back if you want…» My wedding was out of town and not in the direction of Hagerstown. I wanted the job done right the first time, and I didn’t have time to drive back there. Needless to say, I was really pleased at first, but then ultimately frustrated and disappointed.

I came in as a bride without an appointment with a wedding far in advance. My negative review is that the staff was incredibly standoffish when I came in to look at gowns, and it seemed that(even though the store was completely empty) I was a massive inconvenience because I wanted to just look around. I did end up purchasing a gown that day, after having to specifically ask for a dressing room and having to put the gown I picked out on by myself. I am a bridal consultant at a different salon, so this was beyond incredibly bad customer service in my view. But I did fall in love with the gown so, sales experience completely aside, I was very happy with my purchase. After I purchased my gown, the staff was very nice, and accommodated my request for layaway(since my wedding was so far away that I wasn’t planning on loving a gown so quickly), and everyone was very sweet when I came in to try on my gown. The gown was in the Allure collection(I appreciated the designer selection that they have) and was wonderful quality. The shop just didn’t at all provide the desired«dream dress buying» experience that is completely expected from a bridal salon.

Had an absolutely wonderful experience at Potomac Bridal today! I got the pleasure of meeting and working with Joyce, and she helped me in and out of several gorgeous gowns. My friends, my mom and I all loved her no-pressure approach, and we ended up purchasing my wedding gown there. They have a nice selection of gowns, including sample dresses that are reduced significantly(I got mine for half-off the original price!) plus a lovely collection of accessories. Joyce really knows her stuff and the whole staff worked well as a team to take care of all their customers. Even though I wasn’t in the market for it at the time, I couldn’t help but also notice their HUGE prom/bridesmaid/mother-of-the-bride sections, and I saw that they rent tuxes as well. So very pleased and would recommend the store to all my friends!

Great experience. Clean, well lit, friendly staff, great selection of dresses of all price ranges and styles. Sue helped my mom find the perfect dress for her big day! Couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

I had a wonderful experience with my consultant, Sue. I would recommend a Friday late morning appointment time if you can manage it as the store was virtually empty. I had my choice of fitting rooms and gowns, as well as the three way mirror and seating for my family accompanying me. Potomac bridal had a selection of gowns, including mermaid, empire, A-line, and ball gown. The consultants here do not work on commission and I never felt rushed or pressured to make a decision. In fact, I left after my first appointment without a dress selected. I returned months later for a second appointment at which time I made my selection. Sue offered me off the rack options to help with my budget(even though I ended up ordering), recommended a fabulous local individual for alterations, as well as held my dress and steamed it for me the week of the wedding. I had a very stress free experience with both Potomac Bridals and found my dream dress!
