Long John Silver’s

I have eaten here a couple of times and was surprised to see the restaurant so far from the food court. I ordered a combination platter and found that the food was fresh and hot out of the fryer! The hush puppies are good for what they are. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that the sauces were very good.
Whenever my mother is in town, she sends me to LJS to get her fish and chips. With the exception of one woman, the staff is very friendly and courteous. I’ve seen the manager work alongside his staff to take orders, so, I’m not going to let one bad apple ruin their review. Although not a four-​star restaurant, I’ll give four stars for their service and execution.

Fast food fish is a hit or miss proposition (actually fast food anything is, for that matter). It’s all in the timing. Getting there and having to wait for your stuff to be cooked is great. Hearing that clunk of who knows when it was cooked stuff, not so.
Long John Silver’s is one of secret loves, when it comes to fast food. I don’t get it very often (my hometown LJS storefronts are a mess) so when the opportunity hits, and the stars and planets are lined up right, It’s well worth the wait.
Surprised to find a stand alone storefront inside of the edge of Valley Mall (apparently away from the ‘Food court’. Finding a standalone unit, outside, is becoming a rarity of itself (more often see these as pairs or triples with other chains).
We ordered a 2 piece fish (I guess the old Fish n More) and a 3 piece chicken planks (I guess the old chicken n more plate) along with drinks and a side of 6 extra hush puppies.
Caveat: These are LJS Hush puppies. They are in no way the hush puppies I grew up on; i.e. a ball of minced onion with enough corn meal to make it stick together in a ball shape. I doubt I will ever find those again. If I do run across them prepared like that, I am moving in with the cook.
The fish was right out of the cooker. My chicken, somewhat less than as hot as the fish, may have detoured for a bit. Fries were warm, and somewhat soggy. Cole slaw was very good. The hush puppies, were excellent.
We had attentive service, and the place (for being in a mall on Friday) was pretty clean (I have seen a lot worse; our home town LJS’s).
A Senior/​Military/​Veterans discount was honored.
Frankly, I was surprised. to find a all by itself LJS and to be able to get decent food, in the far corner of a mall, would be playing some serious numbers on the over/​under. But today, the planets lined up, and I had a wonderful lunch.
On another day, my mileage may vary. But today, it did not.

I’ve been here a dozen or so times since our location in FDK closed. The staff has always been courteous, the dining areas and bathrooms clean, and the food hot. Management has stopped to talk to me a few times, asked how my visit was, shared some info on iof FDK will ever get another LJS. I have zero complaints.

Visited around 8:30 pm on 4÷27÷12. They don’t take LJS coupons anymore because «they are a franchise» and the young girl working the counter was unfriendly, bordering on rude. Not worth it.
