This camp has a location on Cameron Ave. in West Covina. This is the location and staff I am speaking of. This summer day camp has to be the worst I’ve seen. The younger staff are genuinely trying to do their job but the director obviously doesn’t do his. The office staff are the rudest people I have ever encountered and I work for a major bank so that’s saying A LOT! I had just enrolled my child at the YMCA because my preferred summer camp was full. I paid the $ 25 per week reservation fee and the program & T-Shirt fees. Total to YMCA $ 175. I had just come back from out of town & my child started the program on Tuesday. The weekly fees are due on Wednesdays. On Wednesday(his 2nd day there) they had gone to a Dodger game and didn’t get back until 5pm. I was waiting in the parking lot for over 45 minutes. This was my fault as I didn’t check the schedule as to the time they would be back. Anyway, after waiting in the heat when my child finally got there, I rushed off and forgot about the payment. I want to say, that the office assistance and the Main Director Michael, both saw me, said«hi» but didn’t say anything about payment. Never the less, I paid the next day. I then received a reminder about a $ 20 late fee due to the payment not being received on Wed. OK, so I’m thinking, we’re 2 days in, this is a mishap and they will understand. NOWAY! I called and explained the situation and got no empathy. I was told by the office assistance«it’s in your parent handbook». WOW! You would think the money was due to her personally the way she acted. I am a professional and look to other organizations to act the same. Needless to say, the YMCA got their $ 20 but lost over $ 500 for the weekly fees that I would have paid had I kept my child in the program. I pulled him out after only 4 days and lost the $ 125 in reservation fees just on principal. My child, who is 10, is much happier elsewhere as he states that the staff at the YMCA could not keep the children under control and the only thing the director would do is sit there and watch. Not judging… but he is pushing 350 lbs and every time I walked in, he was sitting down. The other camp constantly has the children doing outdoor & indoor activities where as at the Y– I always saw my child inside. There are much better places to take your children. Be careful of this place.
