This used to be Tonta ramen but they changed to AYCE in the last few months. I don’t think it’s a good idea since their ramen is pretty good. Fortunately, they still serve the ramen. I never tried the AYCE and I don’t think sushi is their best food. Their sushi selection consists of rolls only, no nigiris. Other than that, their other food is pretty good. They have recently added lunch specials which are pretty decent. The seafood tei is fresh and fulfilling for eight bucks. I will go for the lunch specials and the seafood tei, and sometimes the ramens, but not AYCE. If you are into animé, they also sell animé characters’ masks like Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Yokai Watch, etc.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. Ordered a couple of rolls. Both were fresh rolls but still took a while even though we were the only ones there. One came out incorrectly the other one didn’t smell fresh. Ate one piece and could tell it was wrong. The order that was incorrect was missing fish that was listed in the menu. Told them what was wrong. By this time I just wanted to leave. Paid for the one they did get right but smelled off… Should have known something was wrong when there was no one in there but us. I should have checked Unilocal reviews first. I won’t make that mistake again.

Let’s start with the good… the waiter was very nice, we got great service. Chashu ramen was quite tasty. We ordered a la carte instead of AYCE for dinner because we have kids and older folks in our family that don’t eat much. The rolls were just ok, nothing special, and some pieces were cut to be quite big, which wasn’t good. Several people in our party thought the pork fried rice was very good, I thought it was ok. Fried squid rings were too hard, can’t really taste the squid inside. The squid balls were really good(can’t remember the name), definitely get it if you come here. Prices are pretty high if you don’t do AYCE, When we ate here it was quite hot inside and we were surprised it didn’t have A/C; turned out they did have it, but they didn’t turn it on until we were almost done with dinner. Should’ve turned it on to keep it cooler so people can enjoy the food more. Overall, despite the great service from the waiter, we won’t be back.

we had AYCE with a party of 4. at first the waitress told us to only order 5 items at a time, which seems weird, but then we understand because they only have one chef in the kitchen. You might think it will be kind of slow for 5 items each time, but trust me after a while, there will be more foods on the table than you think. Overall, this is a cool place for AYCE, the foods are tasty, qualities are stable. service is wonderful. People might realize that it says 60 minutes for AYCE but in fact they do give you more time then you think. we had like 180 minutes until the waitress said last order and all four of us are full to heaven. PS: if you are looking for sushi, this is not the place, their foods and AYCE are focus on appetizers and hot dishes, thats why they only have rolls available.

We drove all the way here from Riverside and was extremely disappointed. First of all there is a 60 minute time limit on AYCE. You can only order one item at a time. Everything we ordered was not good at all. There was five people in our group and we left hungry! The only thing in the menu that was ok was the ramen. I wish I would have taken a picture of the menu. I can’t believe one entrée was sliced tomatoes and another was sliced cucumber. If I wanted to order meat and rice I would have to finish one of the items before I could order another! I like to eat my meat with my rice. I could say a lot more but if you are planning on eating here DONT!!! Don’t waste your money. We would never come back to this place EVER!!!

Last minute dinner plan, I decided to Unilocal for a nearby restaurant that has decent rating. However, the 4 stars rating is a complete hoax. We were the only party there. They had one chef and one server. Server was nice but he didn’t deliver any expected customer service such as knowing the ingredients or advising customers on certain things. This place has AYCE for $ 25. I did not get that but others did. They said they would not come back for the deal, everything was decent and every single roll had California rolls as the base. Chef just added different sauces for different specialty rolls. I personally ordered spicy ramen and takoyaki. I asked if they are able to do half bowl ramen for me. Server happily said yes. The whole time in my head thinking wow that’s very nice of them. Then when the bills came, they charged me full price. I asked for the reason and they said it didn’t matter, everything is still the same price. I was disappointed! Other than that, takoyaki was very small, it was decent. Spicy ramen was 6⁄10 spicy, and tasted not bad. In conclusion, I would not come back here. They should be more transparent about their menu and pricing.

Came here for AYCE dinner yesterday. Let’s break it down: The Environment: Decent environment, but the only thing I’d like to mention is that it smelled really oily upon walking in. The Food: 20% off $ 25.25AYCE right now. We tried several rolls. Some were good, some weren’t so good. But all of the rolls were so bulky and the slices were huge(not in a good way). I did not like that they put a lot of mayo on the spider roll. I had the ramen which was pretty good. The broth was very tasty. The other non-sushi items we tried were mediocre. The ice cream was icy so we sent it back. Oh and there was a hair in my salad. The Service: Food came out fairly slowly because there was only one chef. Understandable I suppose. The waiter was extremely slow waiting on only 3 tables. We were the first group in, and had to ask for water twice. Had to ask for refills more than once too. He was not very apologetic about the hair in my food. He didn’t take away any of the empty dishes so we had to start putting it on the table next to us because it was piling up. The ideas of tapas and sushi is great, but this place does not execute it well. Will not be coming back here any time soon.

Amazing new hole in the wall with delicious tonkatsu ramen! We’ve just been there once but everything we had was yummy. Definitely coming back again to try more dishes. They are also quite affordable. Come support this mom and pop restaurant!

Terrible! I was expecting much more from this place especially paying 11.68 for 6pc of their soft shell crab roll. It would be fine if they were packed with crab but the crab were nowhere to be found! They should of rename it to imitation crab roll since the roll only had that and rice. Overall this place is the worst ramen/sushi experience I’ve ever had. Do not come here they give small portions and cut back on ingredients.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon about 15 minutes after they opened. Had high expectations based on the high Unilocal ratings. The restaurant was empty and there was one server. He gave us 4 menus, 2 of which consisted of their rolls. My boyfriend pointed out that it was weird they didn’t have a sushi bar. This location used to be Daikokuya and after he said this, I agreed with him that it was odd they didn’t add on a sushi bar. Honestly, the rolls didn’t look appetizing to me. Not many had salmon(my fave) and a lot of them had melted cheese on top! That kinda turned me off right there. melted cheese and fish :\. I ordered one of the lunch specials: Stir fried pork set which came with pork/bean sprouts, rice, a salad, and miso soup. My boyfriend ordered their seafood bowl which was basically kind of like a chirashi bowl. I tried some of this and thought it was good. The pieces of fish were small, but it was an overall good dish and something I’d order. My pork/bean sprout mixture was a little salty and tasted like something I could get at a Chinese restaurant. I also felt like I was eating a bean sprout dish with pork instead of pork with bean sprouts. We also ordered a poke roll which had minimal amounts of tuna, salmon, and albacore. It was okay. The waiter seemed nice, but not much customer service. I’m sorry. this first visit doesn’t make me want to return.

Kind owners/staff + delicious food! Great combo for restaurant success. I just want to emphasize how fresh and genuine the dishes are here. Atmosphere is spunky, but adds to the overall character of your dining experience. My boyfriend and I are locals so we’re familiar with many of the sushi spots in this area. This place surprised us(unaware it was there) and has easily become one of our favorites. We had the ‘all you can eat’ option, which I highly recommend! after ordering maybe ¾ dishes, a couple will get their money’s worth. The good news is you can always order more! My boyfriend loved their shrimp fried rice(he’s super particular about how rice is cooked) and I went crazy over the poke salad. Generous amounts of food! We ate ourselves into a food coma but did not regret it! The outside area isn’t the best looking, but you’re never in serious danger. It is on a busy main street — with ample parking right in front!

First time here, it is very rare to find an ayce that is Japanese owned. Ordered a bit of everything and all of them tasted so delicious. Definitely get ayce for $ 25.25 if you want to eat everything. So tempted to order everything from ramen to curry to sushi all is included in ayce. So worth!!! Definitely recommend the squid tentacles so delicious! Will definitely be back!

3.5 stars: First of all, this place is actually Japanese owned! Yay! This is a little mom and pop all you can eat sushi joint, but we opted for their lunch menu this time. We stopped here to get lunch to go: Spicy Tonkatsu ramen: The broth was REALLY good! I was impressed! They also pack the spicy sauce seperately which was a nice touch, you can control the spicy level yourself. The noodles were different than the usual ramen noodles though, they are of a thinner texture and I’m not a huge fan. That delicious broth made it worth it though! Yakisoba: This was ok, it tasted just like typical Chinese take out noodles which kind of surprised me. Curry: good! We will be back for the ramen! :)

First time at Japon Tei, I believe they were a ramen joint before. As a vegetarian, I ordered corn butter asparagus, sliced tomato, and spicy tofu, everything tastes very good;) My friend had the curry, which seemed pretty big but it sure did look tasty! There portions are pretty large unless you order them in ½ size which you can and you should if you want to enjoy the variety. FYI, drinks and desserts are also AYCE! We had a great dining experience and will be back soon;)

If you want real Japanese food made by Japanese people, this is the place. The portions are great, I always leave full here even when I don’t get the AYCE, but the AYCE is the way to go. The AYCE includes sushi rolls, ramen, udon, and a lot of appetizers. If you’re not feeling AYCE sushi rolls, you can just get AYCE ramen! For lunch, it cost $ 22.55 and dinners cost $ 25.25. Not bad for authentic Japanese food.

First time coming to this restaurant and my initial reaction… WOW. The servers were great and the food was delicious. I ordered various kinds of Japanese style items and they were all prepared beautifully and tasted great! I can honestly say I am grateful this restaurant opened. This beats any place in the local area. I recommend everyone give this place a try!

I had a phenomenal experience at this restaurant. They JUST opened(September 2015) and food is fantastic. The servers were well informed regarding the items on the menu. The food was delicious. I had various Japanese style rolls and they were all great! Definitely recommend this to anyone in the area.

Went today to try the All You Can Eat. And usually, at most restaurants, All You Can Eat items are fairly smaller servings, so that you can in fact eat more. Not here. I ordered the ramen, which was delicious by the way, and it was HUGE. I should have paid $ 5.88 instead and eaten only that. All of our rolls were done sloppy, falling apart before we even grab. My avocado was blackened in my avocado roll. And they do not have low sodium soy sauce. The only reason why I give 2 stars is because our waitress was as great as she could have been. Given, the place just opened up for business. So I hope to come back in a year with major improvement.
