Our search is over. We’ve been looking for the perfect breakfast restaurant for years. This is the ideal breakfast spot! We drive 35 minutes every Saturday with a toddler and infant to come here(they don’t like the car). A family run operation with mom and dad cooking and the kids serving. Their pride in what they do is evident in their food! The food is fab, fresh homemade goodness. The staff welcomes you like family, even the other guests are exceptionally friendly. The following is a list of our favorites: Hash, waffles, pancakes, anything off the special list, muffins(buttered and toasted), eggs beni, breakfast wraps. Their hash is homemade, their fruit is fresh and seasonable, try any of Basem’s homemade sauces(hollandaise, fruit compote, ect.) Thank you Basems for being amazing!!!

I knew I liked this place even before I went. My boyfriend’s sister, her husband, and her two kids(aged 2.5 and a few months) come here every Saturday morning. They rave about it. They love the food, but most especially the staff. I had to go and eat at this place myself! There is a strong core of Saturday regulars that they are among. Eating all together we had just about one of everything. I ordered the Dublin, which is poached eggs and hollandaise sauce served over a very generous serving of their amazing homemade hash, instead of ham. It was amazing. My boyfriend ordered an extremely large breakfast sandwich that he actually struggled to finish. I also got a couple bites of my niece’s Belgian waffles. Everything was really good. The waitresses were extremely nice and so happy to meet us. They give the place a nice, close, and welcome feel. I would love to drop in for lunch and grab a sandwich seeing the other reviews and also having a preview with the breakfast sandwich.

Basem and his family do a great job. Warm, family feel and EXCELLENT food. Coffee is good and plentiful and here’s the kicker: the absolute BEST spinach I’ve had. Key here is that I don’t like spinach all that much; I avoid it. But at Basem’s I order egg sandwich with spinach or the egg white and feta omelette with spinach because here it’s the tastiest thing on the menu. Similar to what I love about the italian broccoli rabe dish, but made with spinach. Delicious.

Yesterday, Anna E. and I had a wonderful breakfast at the family-operated Basem’s Restaurant, or more like an UYE in Guilford… lol! From reading the reviews on Unilocal and check-ins from my Facebook friends(I’m from Guilford btw), I knew that this place had to be on my bucket list of eateries to visit. I ordered the spinach, feta, and egg sandwich on a Portuguese roll. Anna had the egg, bacon, and tomato sandwich. The sandwiches were very filling. Our rolls were even buttered! I loved the fact that it came with a small watermelon wedge. We also split a small stack of pancakes. Since we couldn’t decide on blueberry or chocolate chip stack, they were able to accommodate our request to make pancake blueberry and the other chocolate. OMG… the chocolate pancake was scrumptious and jammed packed with chocolate chips. I felt like I was eating a chocolate chip cookie. Mimi, our waitress, was the sweetest, most genuine person. When I told her I got engaged recently, she was fussing over my ring as if she was my friend for a long time. She was very attentive and was the daughter of the restaurant owners. Her kind demeanor belonged to a ma and pa place on the CT Shoreline. Their Belgian waffles with fresh fruit looked like they were for die for! If you live in Guilford, come and have a meal at this local place! Plus, their iced coffee was very good too considering they are not coffee nerds. I can’t wait to come back and introduce my parents to Basem’s Restaurant. My only complaint was that I wished they opened their business before I moved out in 2007.

Lesley Q. and I made plans to meet up for breakfast this morning and as we both had never been here before we decided to give it a try. What did we discover? Another incredible breakfast(and lunch) spot in town! I had the most delicious breakfast sandwich here this morning: egg, bacon, cheddar, and tomato on an excellent Portuguese roll. I expected the egg to be the typical fried egg that comes on made-to-order breakfast sandwiches, but this was even better. The egg was scrambled, fluffy, and flavorful. The bacon was a beautiful thicker cut and perfectly crispy. The tasty roll was buttered and grilled and the tomato was fresh and sweet. All together it was wonderful and hearty without being heavy. A slice of watermelon came with our sandwiches, and I found this to be a great touch since I enjoy having a little fruit with breakfast. In addition, we shared a short stack of pancakes, one blueberry and one chocolate chip, both terrific. Mimi was our server and the cutest and sweetest person we’ve come across in a long while. This is a family owned restaurant owned by her parents. It’s clear they take a lot of pride in what they do, use only the best ingredients, and care about the experience of their patrons. They also have free WIFI and invite patrons to come by even if all they want is a cup or coffee — hot or iced(I liked their iced coffee, and I’m picky about coffee). I’ll definitely be coming back!

I frequent this restaurant/sandwich shop on a regular basis, the staff have been nothing but friendly to me, and their food is out of this world! And surprisingly good cole slaw, actually the best slaw I’ve ever had! I have gotten sandwiches like the Reuben, a steak wrap, and fresh mozz panini, all of which are enormous and delish! They use artisan bread made for the gods and even their grilled chicken seems it should be praised by an ordained priest! My only complaint is I wish the prices were a couple dollars less.

Excellent huge sandwiches. Wonderful macaroni salad and very good french fries. Very friendly service! Hidden gem! I had the chicken salad panini, it was huge and very flavorful. If you don’t kow about this place it’s easy to drive right past it.

This place was amazing! I have been there many times for breakfast and lunch. Their Tomato and Mozzarella panini was absolutely delicious as is any of their breakfasts. The pancakes are huge and the waffle gets piled high when you order it with fresh fruit. I am not one who likes chicken salad, but they have a different kind every day or two and they all are out of this world. The owner is the chef and the rest of the staff is family or family friends. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves a good meal. I hope they do their lobster Benedict again soon because it was phenomenal

Had to write a review as soon as I ate my sandwich from Basem… roast beef panini… probably the best sandwich I ever ate. I got my sandwich to go, and the service was quick. Very, very nice girl running the register who chatted with me as I was waiting. I was so tempted by the muffins, but I didnt get one… definately will next time. Stop by and get that panini:)

Cozy & small. Great breakfast! Wife & I ordered a veggie omelette. Was one of the best we’ve ever eaten in a restaurant. Service was superb! Very personal & friendly staff. From out of town & will definitely stop again, if in the area. Local folks should frequent this restaurant for sure.
