Ain’t Dere No More. As of today, It’s gone. Another NOLA institution pushed aside by greedy people who want more and more profits for the same falling apart buildings. Yet another Rouses is being built in the parking lot. In all honesty, we don’t really need a Rouses there. I’d have been happier if it was a Dorignac’s or Langensteins… Or that little store/gas station in Saint Bernard that sells really good steaks, cheap.

It’s a shame that they will be closing this year! I love this grocery. You can get in, get what you want and check out quickly. They assist a special needs group to give them jobs so your baggers and stockers are special needs and very happy to be there. I love that walking in the front door feels like you time travel back to the ’70’s. If you go to the deli look at the muffalatas. Those things are huge!

I live close to this grocery store and try to avoid it as much as possible. When you enter the store dont be surprised when you see dirty floors and a lot of chaos. Its like a freaking rat maze in there. Your force to make a right as you walk in and on top of that they have a long line of baskets filled with junk. The produce looks uninviting and dont get my started on the nasty deli. Their employees ALWAYS have a attitude with my husband and our friends that have been there. I guess they hate there jobs but they can at least try to be courteous.

Personality, oh yes indeed. Reasons Casey Jones is a step above: When the misters spray the veggies, the lights flash and there’s a recorded sound of thunder. There are stuffed animals(the real kind) guarding(?) the place(please consult attached photos). The classic signage lets you know where you are, and what to look for. Do you want something pickled? For example, quail eggs, okra, green beans, or any kind of pork product? Look no further, child. Local food products readily available on every aisle. The staff is super duper. The other friendly customers offer you every kind of advice, both solicited and unsolicited. Plus you can make your groceries. No fresh seafood! But I think the reason is that there are small seafood markets all over the neighborhood, plus the fishers’ market is a short drive away. So I don’t really count that as a drawback, because you want to get your seafood from the fishers’ market anyway, or from that crazy fish market four blocks away.
