Excellent small town sub shop that has been doing it’s thing for a long time. My first visit was yesterday. I had the large ham sub($ 8.60), which was very filling(and I have a big appetite). I got it «all the way» and it was tender and juicy with a great flavor balance. The ham was tender and flavorful. The sharpness of the banana peppers and onions offset the smoothness of the mayo, with the tomatoes and lettuce adding fresh crunch. The bread was tender and tasted fresh, perfect for the sandwich. Sub sandwiches are one of the things I often get a craving for. Next time that happens, I’ll be driving past Jimmy John’s and Subway to get to Ernie’s. My friends also got the«peppersteak» sub, which apparently is one of their signature items. They thought it was amazing and, though I loved the ham, the Peppersteak will be what I try next time. My friends got fries with theirs and liked them. They also report that Ernie’s does burgers well. The large sub is probably about 12 – 13 inches long. It took maybe 10 – 15 mins to get our delicious food — worth the wait — but if you want to shorten that, you can call in first. A couple of small, cheap, plastic tables and chairs for dine-in customers. Almost all traffic here is carry-out. Staff was friendly and I loved supporting a local business!

Great sandwich. I look for places like this when traveling. Too easy to eat at a chain or a place with cloth napkins. If you want a great sandwich and don’t need the rest, stop at Ernie’s.

Their Peppersteak is worth the trip. As Amara D. said… that food isn’t about health it’s about taste. If you want something that will make your tastebuds dance, go there. If you want health, don’t eat out.

The peppersteak with everything on it is worth the usually brief wait at Ernies. Everytime we visit family in Greenville, we take the out of the way ride for this southern masterpiece. Is it good for you? No, of course not… but food in Greenville, NC is not about health it is about taste… and Ernie’s has that in spades. For extra points get some fries and a large juice from the fountain.
