Wow– what a find !!! Grilled asparagus & veggies with horseradish dip was amazing. Fish tacos — excellent. Fried oyster roll — superb. Fresh strawberry and rhubarb crisp was heavenly.

Wish I could rate this with 0 stars. Very overpriced combined with very bad service. The lobster roll was 28.00, but we were told if we wanted to know what drinks they had, we could get up and look in the fridge. We were never brought water, our waitress was very rude, and the staff was openly arguing not 5 feet from our table(including the owner yelling at our server). The soups were good, but 7.95 for a cup was ridiculous. Not sure how this place is open. Do not recommend, there are tons of really great places around where you can enjoy yourself instead.

Lovely spot for a quaint lunch or dinner in Greenport. Especially nice when its very busy outside on summer weekends, its a nice peaceful spot. They are known for their fried chicken, which is really excellent, but for me the fish and chips were my favorite. The fish was perfect and not too greasy or heavy, and the fries were seasoned perfectly. The fish tacos are also delicious. Definitely a great little spot!

Not too expensive. Service is good, and so as food. I got Korean barbecue ribs, and it’s $ 19.

Although they are well known for their fabulous fried chicken and take out, dining their is also a treat. We ordered fried chicken, a lobster roll, and a Kobe burger. The chicken was outstanding, and the burger also superb. The lobster roll was also delicious although the bun could be a bit less dense. We so loved our meal and can’t wait to return for dinner. The only problem was the waitress was really not kind and on the border of rude.

It’s a shame really to ding this biz. The food can be really great. But there is something wrong with the owner’s husband. Really and truly. He doesn’t like children. So when you order and the food takes a really long time he will give you attitude if the kids even get up to use the restroom. The staff is unfriendly but mostly I think it’s because the owners are so weird themselves. I guess if you’re taking food out it would be fine. But if the husband is there… close the door and leave immediately.

Everything here is awesome. Never had a bad mean– brunch, lunch or dinner! If you go for brunch, get the huevos rancheros! Bloody Mary’s are fantastic too!

I guess people don’t understand that good quality food takes time. If you don’t wanna wait, there’s always McDonald’s, or not eating… This place is so unassuming from the outside. I went here on Easter with my cousin and my boyfriend and we were definitely hungry and we decided to walk in here because it was one of the few places that was open and didn’t smell of old men B.O. I ordered the fried oyster sandwich. My boyfriend got the Sal club, and my cousin got the Kobe beef burger. We also ordered a side of sweet potato fries. Oh. My. God. Everything was so incredibly fresh and delicious! We devoured our food. The burger was one of the best burgers I have ever had. The fried oyster sandwich was soooooo delicious, and the sal club was amazing. The sweet potato fries were hand cut and just perfect. We couldn’t stop eating and raving about the food. The service was great. Very attentive and accommodating. The worst part of this experience was deciding what to eat. I must’ve changed my mind 5 times before firmly deciding. We WILL be back. We all have been talking about for days how awesome this place is. Extremely reasonable pricing for what you get. Delicious! Check this place out!

The owners of this place are so racist! Worst experience I’ve had in my life at a restaurant! I was there with 7 of my family members we were sitting at the bar having some beers waiting for our food we ordered(about $ 150 worth of food) we were there at least an hour and never got any of our food we ordered. Two of my family members are African, they were sitting at the end of the bar next to me and one of the owners asked them to leave because they were taking up room at the bar, and we told her we just ordered a bunch of food and were waiting. So then she goes to the back of the store and gets her husband(the other owner) and he he supports her decision and thinks they should leave even though we are sitting there buying drinks and appetizers! They didn’t ask any of my other family members to leave just them!! The waitress and bar tender were in shock that the owners were doing this… And so my family got in a big argument with the owners. We told them we weren’t going to pay because of this and one of the owners said«come to the register so I can take your money». I responded with«FUCKYOU!» and then I walked out. Long story short they are a bunch of closed minded old farts and don’t deserve your business!

If I could give this restaurant a zero I would not for the food but for the two racist owners who own this establishment. My son and daughter-in-law who are African were asked to leave the restaurant because they were taking up too much space. This is after we spent $ 150 on takeout and about $ 75 on the bar bill waiting for our take-out order. They turned a nice family afternoon into a nightmare. The waitstaff was mortified and apologized profusely for the owners behavior. Diners were in awe as they asked my son and daughter-in-law to leave — disgusting human beings do not eat there

I really love this place. Everything fresh and delicious. The accent here is on quality! The fish and chips were absolutely delicious. The 5 shrimp Po-boy was equally delicious. The iced tea was great and the coffee is brewed with robust flavor(not some weakened brew). The place is neat as can be, friendly and even has a cute selection of international gourmet foods available for purchase. Its really a great place for brunch or lunch anytime you go out to Greenport.

After walking by this place in seeing the very interesting signs outside, my friend and I had to go in and try it. We open the door and the aroma of delicious food doubt and we definitely sat down for dining service. Browsing through the reviews they made me chuckle when I saw that some of them were one or two stars, one was a guy complaining about time on homemade fried chicken/foodstuffs which takes quite a bit of time if you’re not familiar with the process of cooking from scratch. This is real food not McDonald’s. The other was one with a «free range» toddler. Any place that respects the dining of people without children is an OK place for me, nowadays children do not have basic home training(and should remain there until the parents get a pair and teach it to them). From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted with smiles friendly faces and a welcoming word. The bartender, Sherry Anne(I think) called over a sweet, frantically moving waiter(Bryan), who cleared a table and sat us quickly. We ordered, and received our food within ½ hour and so did the majority of the completely sat café. The fish and chips were outstanding(real cut Idaho potatoes), and the sauce they serve with it is better than just about any tartar sauce. There’s red cabbage coleslaw on the plate, giving you the feeling reminiscint of this old fishing/whaling village. One thing that was a bit odd… a surly lady behind the center counter where there is coffee and pastries was stressing everyone out. I made her smile with a comical antidote as I left. Pep up, nana! The place is great.

Poor service(it took 45 minutes for fish and chips), the staff was not pleasant, and the portions were insanely small for the price and the neighborhood. I’ve come here three times with friends because it’s less crowded than other restaurants at peak times. Never again.

Amazing fried chicken, amazing soft shell crabs. The best lemonade I have ever had. Such a great find in charming Greenport. Loved it all. There is a nice market as well with all sorts of hard to find European grocery items.

Love the food here, best soups ever!!! John behind the bar is always so nice and helpful. Just ask him what he likes to eat, hasn’t steered me wrong yet. Claudia uses the most amazing spice and food combinations. I try to eat here once a week!

We decided to drive to the end of Long Island in the start of Spring but In a real-life re-enactment of Robert Frost’s poem we opted to steer to the less-traveled North Fork instead of driving to the Hamptons. This brought us through Greenport, a quaint little town that has managed to still retain its original charm and small-town friendliness. Happily, unlike on the other fork you don’t see a town overrun with boutique stores and snooty folk; instead you still get a feel of the town Long Island the way it’s likely always been. Granted, most of the shops have kept up with the times by stocking higher end items that appeal to the rich tourists, but they’ve managed to retain their identity. Salamanders is a café/bar/general store that fits this pattern. it’s unassuming and unpretentious on the outside and inside the décor is simple; a few tables by the window, a bar area to the right, cash register to the left, a general store to the front, and more seating in the back and upstairs. On the outside and in the local paper they promise«The Best Fried Chicken I Ever Tasted». That was enough for us. You do need to call in advance to order – luckily for us we came on a quiet day so we just had to wait 20 minutes. The results really lived up to the promise – the chicken had an amazing crunch when you bit into it, almost like biting into a potato chip. The seasoning is excellent, and the chicken itself is fresh from the farm – we read also that it’s brined and put in a pressure cooker which makes even the big white meat pieces incredibly tender and juicy. Definitely among the top 5 fried chicken I’ve had in my life. The sides were all home cooked and solid as well, from the corn bread to the potato salad to the fresh pickles. We ordered some Buffalo wings. They follow the original recipe(which means they’re really spicy, unlike the watered-down versions you see all over). ironically, what made it an odd experience was that the chicken was so much more meaty and juicy than what you’re used to. The store area was well stocked with a great variety of cheese, some deli food, and imported sauces from all over. We chatted with the owner, who was very kind as she rung up our order. In the refrigerator section there are soups which she made all herself of all kinds of different varieties, all using fresh ingredients. We got Chicken and Leek Noodle, Beef Barley, Indian Red Dahl, Dutch Yellow Pea, and California Clam Chowder. My sister, who’s been here several times, says the selection changes each time she comes and they’re always excellent. Definitely a gem of a find on the North Fork, and worth the trip!

One star for the fried chicken: crispy and pretty good, and one star for our waiter, who was awesome, attentive, and sweet. The rest of what I have to say isn’t positive at all(big one: the freezer-taste from the cut-block of mac and cheese I got that was«made fresh», which had to be sent back bc the middle was still frozen when I got it), and since we’re still on vacation until tomorrow, I’ll just leave it at that.
