Chevy’s is the TGIFridays of Mexican food. If you’re looking for something that lacks authenticity and quality at a reasonable price point than this place is for you. This isn’t a review of this restaurant in particular just a review of the chain. The service here was very good and not the reason I won’t be returning

Why 1 star? Let me say this. the experience was so bad at this Chevys, we had 3 meals and a drink comped! I’m a very patient person when it comes to service but I can go from 0 to 60 if you surpass my reasonable expectations. Let’s be clear… the food is always good. But it’s not good enough 60+ minutes after you order. Scene: it is around 3pm on a Saturday, smack dab between lunch and dinner. The crowd is reasonable but I could not call it busy by any means. What happened you ask? Our server was incompetent and rude. Ironically my family and I were the waiters. WE waited for her to greet us, 15 minutes. WE waited for our drinks, ginger ale, water and a margarita, 15 minutes for the water and soda, +20 minutes for the margarita. When I asked about my sister’s margarita, she snapped«I can’t bring it to you if it’s not made yet.». Apparently a tableside guac was more important than entering a drink order. After asking for a manager, we discovered that she didn’t place our meal ticket in. Oh! No wonder everyone else, including families that came in after us, is eating except us. 15 additional minutes later, we finally eat. So we thought. After over an hour of this fiasco, we realize that we don’t even have silverware. The manager blamed the kitchen computer system who misplaced only our order and offered to comp our meal. Oh there’s more… the manager neglects to tell our darling waitress who attempts to drop off the check like 10 minutes after we get our food. Girl bye! I gracefully declined and advised her to mosey over to her manager and handle the comped meal. By far the worst experience. I will never return. The only competence in this place was the cooks who know how to make the food consistent across the franchise. The servers and managers should consider a career change.

This Chevy’s is by far always consistent with their food preparation, taste and temperature of food, and service. You can always count on their basic foodstuffs to be authentically TexMex, very tasty and the portions fair if not generous. The problem comes with their staffing… I mean i have had rock stars and rocks as servers and/or managers and that is where they get in trouble. My friends love their happy hour and on Wednesdays there are great margaritas. PROS Very good and tasty TexMex food. Generous portions Freshly prepared food Ample parking Fundraising is available They cater CONS Service is hit or miss because sometimes they have horrible servers/managers, but when you get a great one it is an awesome experience Bathrooms are horribly small and cramped Their fajitas are not great due to the fact you get lots of aromatics and not enough meat I would not order anything seafood because their portions are small and not as tasty as meat dishes

Entered the restaurant at 4:30 on a Friday asking for a table of 2. Half the restaurant was empty and there were 8 employees standing near the check in desk. We were told we had to wait up to 30 minutes but then was told 10 minutes. Meanwhile the employees never did anything except stand on a group and use profanity around young children. No sense of urgency or respect. Very disappointing and this will be the last trip here. Meanwhile others were leaving when they came in, saw an empty restaurant, and then were told they couldn’t be seated until 5.

We love this place for the most part. Their shrimp and crab quesadillas are to die for!!! So so good. My husband loves the shrimp and crab enchiladas. Their chips are always fresh and your basket is always full. They are great with our kids. The one thing that you absolutely must Try and is very addicting is their jalapeño jelly.

I have to update this review. Yet again. For the good this time though. I mean do they keep changing management here or something? I don’t know. But KUDOS to Chevy’s for listening to it’s customers. My husband and I had talked to management and of course I took my frustration out in Unilocal reviews regarding the silly silly happy hour policy. But I’m happy to say that the happy hour problem has been completely rectified. And I say completely because I have visited several times since the new policy. Happy hour is now at the bar and the first two rows of the other section. This seems to have remained a consistent fix. I believe its a great compromise for the restaurant and the clientele. Good job Chevy’s! Thanks for being the happy hour spot for the people by the people!

I have to say this rating is maybe a little … umm… skewed. I’m from Houston Texas where you have some of the BEST Tex-Mex food you could possibly want to taste! So when I moved to Maryland, one of the things I missed the most is the food from home. I’ve tried several different«Tex Mex» restaurants and in my opinion, they all SUCKED! I had been to a Chevy’s when I lived in New Orleans years ago and I recall they were good. So when I had the chance today to go to the Chevy’s in Greenbelt, I was excited! «FINALLY a good Mexican food meal!» It didn’t disappoint. Even though I only had chicken quesadilla and tortilla soup, it was outstanding! The salsa is home made there and it was excellent, although a bit mild for my taste. I saw some of the meals the others in my party had and they looked equally tasty. Next time I go, I’ll get the fajitas. They looked fantastic!

Disclosure: Mexico is a big country with a lot of regional variation in food, and I’ve paid for several of those with pesos, so my expectations are probably different from those of most Yanquis. I stopped in at Chevy’s just because I was in the neighborhood when hunger hit. I knew it had been there for a while, so it probably was at least OK. The décor was pretty much what you’d expect, suggesting a cantina. Despite it being the height of happy hour(the bar was packed) I was seated quickly, and the $ 2 beer special settled the beverage choice. I ordered a three item combo. The chips were crisp and oil free, made from white corn flour so they didn’t have a lot of texture. The tomatillo based salsa was pretty mild. Both were refreshed without asking as the kitchen worked on my entrée. The taco, chimichanga, and tamale were all discernibly fresh and with typical flavors, complex but not as intense as you would find in Yucatan or the DF. I was most impressed with the black beans, which most places leave way too bland. Summing up, decent food with the heat toned down for the American taste, good service despite the rush, reasonable value. Would go back to try the ritas($ 3 on Wednesday) and the tableside guac sounds interesting.

My experience with Chevy’s didn’t involve cars, sadly. However, the server still made me want to vroom-vroom-vroom out of here(sorry for being lame). For those not«in the loop», Chevy’s serves Mexican food in the same vein as the restaurant formerly known as Chi-Chi’s. They have a plethora of margaritas here, including one George Clooney really likes. Seriously, they named a margarita after the actor who starred in «Batman & Robin», one of the worst films ever made. I ended up getting a Fajita Burrito with steak. Well worth the extra $ 2 for steak. I’m not entirely sure why they combined two things Mexico is known for(other than drug trafficking) into one, but it was nevertheless delicious. It was 95% burrito, 5% fajita. On second thought, the name was pretty stupid. My server was the most awkward server I have ever experienced in my 20-something years of existence. He wasn’t intentionally awkward like someone you’d get at Dick’s Last Resort. He was just one of those people who was not a people person. Picture Tina from Bob’s Burgers. He needed told three times what my order was, failed to give us straws until prompted — he would later give my group 12 straws even though there were only four of us – and said as little as humanly possible to us. Oh, I nearly forgot: He believed me when I jokingly told him that we were getting our meals for free. I had to tell him I was kidding. Maybe it was just that one server who was awkward. I asked another server in Spanish where the men’s restroom was, much to my group’s amusement. Her three word answer was less awkward than anything my server said and did.

Excellent service and excellent food and drinks. The staff is really nice and helpful when your ordering your food. I got my son the kids tacos and I got myself the chicken flautas and everything is so good! I would definitely come back again!

I had a terrible time here and I’m going to need to write a lot to tell you all about it. So if you don’t have the time to read it all, basically the service was horrific, my meal was extremely overpriced, and I should’ve spent the same amount of money at an upscale restaurant for the same price and better service. I have never been to Chevy’s and decided I would try it out. Being a vegetarian, there are not that many options for me so I basically made up my own burrito(because I am not interested in sauteed zucchini, squash, green beans, and carrots being in my mexican burrito. That is just weird). My ideal burrito is very simple. All I want is rice, beans, lettuce, pico, sour cream, and guacamole. That sounds pretty easy, right? Apparently not. Originally their lunch special for«make your own burrito» is $ 9.99 and you get to choose what type of meat you want, or you can choose the veggies, and then it’s extra for things like sour cream and guac. Like I said, I am not a fan of those types of veggies in my burrito so I feel like getting a little bit of sour cream and guacamole in my burrito should replace that since that’s basically my only filler. Nonetheless, I was prepared to still have to pay for my extras. It took at least 20 minutes for our food to finally come out. When it does, the busboy brings my co-worker’s correct meal and he brings me tacos. Even though I ordered a burrito, I thought, «oh well, I’ve waited long enough and they must’ve heard me wrong and thought I was making up my own tacos and not burrito,» but then I realize there’s chicken in the tacos, so I say something and the waitress comes over and tells the busboy it clearly says burrito on the ticket and he leaves to get it fixed(mind you, she does not apologize once to me for it being messed up since she clearly wrote burrito and it’s the kitchens fault, nor does she come over to tell me my food will be out soon or what happened in the first place). So it takes at least another 10 minutes for my burrito to come out(is my plain burrito really that difficult?) and my co-worker feels bad and tries to stall as much as he can from eating his food. So finally the burrito comes and the waitress stands over me to watch me cut it open to make sure there is no meat in there, so I feel awkward and quickly just cut open one part and there’s no meat so she walks away. After a couple bites of just rice and pico I decide that I should cut open other parts to make sure the guac and sour cream made it in somewhere(the menu also said that the burritos come with lettuce inside, which she left out but I wasn’t gonna keep complaining). Sure enough, the whole burrito was just rice and pico. I thought about not bringing up the sour cream and guac, but knew that I’d have more problems later if she charged me for it and I never got it. So I called the waitress over and just asked her to bring it on the side. Minutes later we are done with our food and I think the lunch rush is ending because there is not a single waitress in sight. They all seem so busy trying to close up the lunch rush shift to get to their break. The people sitting next to us who came after us but somehow got their food before us have already left and I wonder what they did to get such great service. My co-worker and I are so tempted to dine and dash because of how long it is taking, how terrible the service is, and how bland our meals were. Then we feel bad so we start counting our cash so we can just leave what we think would cover it on the table and leave. During that time, our waitress finally comes to clear our tables and then brings us the bill. My co-worker ordered some kind of rice bowl with chicken and a glass of beer and his total was around $ 13, I ordered my burrito and a glass of water and my total was close to $ 15! How the heck does a vegetarian who ordered a burrito without much substance(and does not order a drink) have a meal that costs more than a carnivore and beer??? Chevy’s isn’t even a fancy enough restaurant to have a dish that expensive! We are both appalled at the bill, but none of us want to complain about it because that will take at least another half hour to be settled. I knew she’d still charge me extra for sour cream and guac, but really??? since my burrito was supposed to be $ 10 that means my extras were about $ 2.50 each! How is that justifiable??? She also didn’t itemize it on the bill so I honestly don’t even know how much the extras were or what she was charging me for. We left our cash on the table and just left and she got a $ 2 tip. What we really should have done though was pay what we believed it should’ve cost and not pay the full bill. Never once did she apologize for our meals taking so long, for me getting the wrong meal, for taking even longer to bring out my correct meal, for forgetting the extras I ordered, or for taking so long to get us our bill. I tried Chevy’s once and that is enough. I will never be back.

This is not the place to be if you care for service. I waited 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge me to seat me. I waited10 minutes to be acknowledged at the table to have water or anythimg. I will say an awesome server by the name of John saved the day with quick speedy service. Order the fajita salad with shrimp. I think if you come later in the evening go to the bar don’t get a table. If you like tex mex come here but don’t expect 5 or 4 star service.

They’ve changed their menu with, I think, an emphasis on slightly fresher food, which resulted in a great veggie quesadilla. It had huge chunks of roasted veggies, and it was served over a bed of mixed greens(a little heavy on the dressing) and two small pots of guacamole and sour cream. The last time I ordered this was several years ago, and I remember it was a lot less substantial, so this was definitely an upgrade. On the other hand, there’s no more«pick four» option in the build-your-own plate category, which is sad, because that made for very good leftovers for lunch the next day. As always, I love the salsa and chips(we ended up getting four salsas between dipping the chips and using it on our meals). Service here can be very hit or miss, but yesterday was good: Our waiter was prompt and friendly and checked on us regularly.

The chips and salsa are great but hopefully you aren’t thirsty while eating them, it will take a while to get your drink. The service here is so slow. The waiter pretends to be busy and this place has more empty seats than filled. Turns out he screwed up the check on the table next to us. Currently, starving in Chevy’s!!! Ok, finally another waiter happens to come over because he sees us looking around and asks if we need assistance. Yes, please!!! We ask for regular size napkins and some more chips(still starving) just as he leaves the food comes… Surprise! We have no way to eat it. So we wait a few more minutes for waiter #2 to get back. Waiter number one finally comes over and says…(Are you ready for this?) «My section is finally clear, I can help you now» o _O proceeds to reach for my moms drink and she wouldn’t let him have it stating she didn’t know how long it would take to get another. We let him know that we preferred not to have him wait on is any longer and he proceeded to catch an attitude. Sigh… The manager Skyler comes over and immediately corrects the situation and makes sure we get waiter #2(Jon) for the remainder of our service. I gave one extra star due to the effort of Skyler and Jon. Unfortunately, due to everything else, I doubt I will be returning. Sigh…

Love their happy hr! The margaritas are strong and delicious. The food selection is great and yummy. Their happy hour is so popular they have opened a few tables in the dining area. If you are ever riding up or down 295 and want a place for a quick stop, check out Chevy’s!
