The sweet potato fries are a hole-in-one while the nachos barely saved par. Overall, my experience at Langford’s Pub(formerly known at the Caddyshack) was favorable. The restaurant shares a building with the pro shop for the Golf Courses of Lawsonia. At first glance, it’s your typical sport bar and grill with the Golf Channel on the flat screens and the walls loaded with golf paraphernalia. It’s clean, well lit and with some exceptions, the food was better than expected. Our group was famished after competing in the Muddy Marquette Mud Run earlier that morning. The freshly prepared, sweet potato fries we ordered as an appetizer were a revelation. Served piping hot, they were well seasoned: crispy on the exterior and bursting with natural sweetness. I would come back for those fries in a heartbeat the next time I’m in the area. I also enjoyed the crunchy mozzarella sticks from the appetizer menu. Like Charlie Brown fruitlessly trying to kick the football, I seem to set myself up for failure my repeatedly ordering restaurant nachos, only to be disappointed in what I receive. Sadly, this was no exception. Instead of using shredded cheese, Langford’s Pub slathered their nachos in a Cheese Whiz like substance, giving the nachos a less-than natural flavor and a soggy interior. The less-than-fresh tri-color chips were bland and not very crunchy. I did enjoy the well-seasoned, grilled chicken, a healthy dose of pickled jalapenos and the fresh tomatoes. If they upgraded the cheese and chips, this could be a decent option for nachos. My daughter loved her cheese pizza, covered with real mozzarella cheese and decent crust for a sports bar. Our server was efficient and courteous, refilling our beverages and checking in often. When I reminded her that she forgot the sour cream and salsa with my nachos, I immediately brought them to our table. She also changed the channel on the closest flat screen to the World Cup game between Brazil and Chile for us. And after finishing our meal, the manager checked in with us to see how we liked our meal. If you’re looking for a casual dining option while visiting Green Lake, give Langford’s Pub a shot. They also serve a Friday Fish Fry during the spring and summer
