Just randomly stopped by to check it out. I got the sweet potato cabbage quesadilla. Way better than expected, packed full of flavor and satisfying. I will definitely have to come back again. Plus the staff was super nice, especially the guy who made my Americano. Oh yeah, and the coffee was great too!

Let me start off by saying we love ST and come here frequently. We came for breakfast 5÷22÷2016 around 10:45. We usually come weekdays and forgot they live music on the weekends. It was a lovely harp player today. Service was friendly and swift. We ordered a sticky bun, cream cheese chocolate muffin and the blue plate special with coffee. The muffin tasted fine. The sticky bun was rock solid. My scrambled eggs were fine but my potatoes were inedible. They were old and hard. This is not the first or second time that the potatoes have been just awful. To be fair and honest Summer Thymes is great for many reasons. They have quality local ingredients, organic drinks and great ambiance. I just can’t continue to pay for food that is inedible.

I wish I didn’t have to write a two star for such a great spot for meeting friends. On Sunday I met a friend for Mother’s Day«brunch». She ordered quiche, took two bites and didn’t eat the rest saying it was off. I ordered gluten free french toast, well, I know what you are thinking, but anyway, it was hard as a rock, tasteless and unappetizing. The Mexican Mocha came cold and an inch plus lower then the cup. I am only writing this because I love sharing our tiny county eateries with out of towners, and a nudge of improvement can make it do better. The staff was excellent, and I will continue to meet here, just not sure if I will eat here.

The breakfast sandwich was fantastic! I will definitely be coming back. The live music on Saturday morning was a real treat.

Lots of gluten free and alternative diet options at this little café /Bakery. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. The food did take some time to come out, but there was lots of interesting local literature to browse while we waited. I had a Ploughman’s Lunch with 9 grain bread and potato leek soup, and my husband had the grilled cheese sandwich. We split a peanut butter cookie and a lemon bar, lemon bar was divine!

The French toast was really satisfying. The orange juice was fresh squeezed and the live music this morning made the atmosphere enjoyable. We will be back. Our two year old loved it here as well.

Just ate here for the first time. The service was ok at first, but once I had my food, they were done. No check back at all. The food, their Green Eggs and Ham, was nothing special. The ham was thin sliced, processed looking, and bland. There was no sign of the advertised Parmesan cheese. It was a fairly tasty dish, thanks to the pesto, but the portion was small for the price. I give it a «meh». The home fries had no spices at all, no onions, nothing. Maybe some folks like their potatoes that way, but not me. I wouldn’t say this place is bad, but I wouldn’t recommend it, and I won’t go there again.

My office used to go here regularly for lunch. Once they moved to their new location, it seemed like everything went down hill. Although the space is adorable, the food prices went up while the quality declined, customer service was always a scattered mess and every single large order we placed had multiple mistakes. After speaking with the manager the last time to express my disappointment, we were promised a few free entrees for our troubles. He took down our address and promised to mail… Months later, they have yet to arrive! I love supporting our local businesses, but this is one I will not be going back to.

One reason people’s opinions of restaurants are so variable is our ability to read a menu and order optimally. My recent visit to Summer Thyme I trusted my wife and the chef. I find that if my wife and I both look at the menu we disagree. Often I just tell her«surprise me». It works for us sometimes particularly when the menu is changeable and eclectic. It also works because my wife is somewhat picky and hip to most things culinary. I on the other hand will eat nearly anything on a plate though I too have high standards. This time my wife surprised me and wouldn’t reveal her selection until the food arrived. She had the Thai chicken soup which was generous with chicken but could have been hotter. It was good, obviously made in house, and likely organic/free range cuz thats the way they roll here. Mine, however was a surprise. It was their version 9f a Cubano sandwich. It was a creative interpretation with chorizo and jalepeños in addition to the usual ham and cheese. The usual pickle was replaced with a pickle aoli. Very different, creative and tasty. Overall pleased with this meal. We come here several times a year for something light and different. Help are friendly and helpful, vibe is kick back Grass Valley peace and love locavore. Give it a try if you like what I described. Wi-fi works good.

They don’t know what vegan is… Ordered breakfast burrito twice on separate occasions, and specifically told them VEGAN with NOEGG and after waiting a ridiculous amount of time for a single burrito, bit into it only to get a mouthful of(you guessed it) eggs. I’ve brought it to their attention, and they *did* kindly make me a new burrito, but it was a bit annoying to have to wait another 15 minute when it wasn’t even a busy day. I also felt bad that the eggs went to waste, i’m hoping someone in the back ate it.. . flavor wise, The tofu is very plain tasting and not seasoned or anything, although their mango salsa is really tasty. I really dislike writing such a negative sounding review, especially since i really appreciate Summer Thymes for being an organic and local place. I defiantly see potential i just things should be a bit more organized!

I used to love the chai smoothie but the last few times its tasted like water. They also used to drizzle caramel around the inside of the glass but the last few times they have been«out«. My boyfriend went to get coffee this morning in the rain(cuz he is awesome) and when he came back we both realized they had forgotten something because it tasted like water. They made it right by offering two free coffees in the future, but it’s starting to become the norm to leave there disappointed. It just seems very confusing and disorganized.

I stopped in for a scone and coffee(decaf’s my thing these days). I was genuinely wowed by the customer service. I’ve rarely been treated so nicely at any local establishment. Take heart folks: if you have a similar business model to Summerthymes, you need to come here for brunch and get some intel. Really, just fabulous people working here… I’d give them 5 stars were it not for my coffee and scone not quite being up to snuff with other options nearby. That said, never underestimate the power of good customer service. They really knocked that ball out of the park today.

Pros– really good, healthy, well prepared food. Owner is lovely. Cons–(and I HATE to write this review but I want to give constructive criticism so you can be as amazing as you were at the old spot… The review comes from a loving place. The front service seems confusing and disorganized. The kitchen takes a really long time for what you’re getting(20 mins with one order ahead of us… For a bacon egg and cheese crossiant sandwich?) I didn’t see any prices listed… So when I was rung up and told it was $ 14 for a breakfast sandwich and a prepackaged juice, UNLESS I wanted to pay an additional $ 2 for local eggs. I was very put off. If I’m already paying as much as I am… Why do I get the crummy eggs? I know you’re not McDonald’s, and I come here for quality… But a dollar per egg up charge? Give Me A Break. 4 stars because they DO have great food. I miss their 4 course seasonal dinner nights. 4 stars because they did have great employees and it used to feel like home. I understand a new location can have its ups and downs. And I’m embarrassed to be so mad about the egg issue. But I haven’t been back since.(And it’s not about the $ 2… It’s just I figured I was spending as much– if not more– than an eggs Benedict at south pine for a reason.)

I love their food. Everything I’ve had here has been delicious. I usually go for the monster taco, but most recently I’ve been ordering the ‘craft your own stir fry’, because I’m as picky as a toddler and I love me something I can totally customize myself. Though I’d love more choices to pick from, I’ve been beyond satisfied with what I get. Friends I’ve been with have orders all sorts of various things from the menu and have all enjoyed them. I also order vanilla almond milk lattes often and they always come out good. Minus one star for the wait. No matter what time of day I come or if it’s packed or empty, I feel like I’m waiting forever. Don’t come if you’re in a hurry, but in the end the food makes it worth it.

We used Summer Thyme for my wedding. I’d give it a 3.5. My wedding cake taste was worthy of 10 stars(gluten free vanilla, we’re not GF but it was so delicious!!!, with raspberry filling and whipped cream frosting!). Unfortunately the cake decorations was worthy of 2 stars. I was a bit surprised when I saw the cake. I asked(and was told) it would be decorated with flowers but there were none. It was supposed to be a «naked» cake(minimum frosting, cake showing a bit) with flowers, but without the flowers, it looked really off and kind of sad. And no one ever explained why the cake wasn’t what they told me it would be. But alas, it still tasted amazing!

It’s nice to see some vegan options in Grass Valley. This place is pretty close to the freeway exit, so could be a good alternative to stopping into a fast food place. Most of the options are not vegan, but I was able to get a pretty good sandwich, and I think they have some other stuff to go. The slightly hippy staff are somewhat typical for this area, and would not be entirely out of place for the Bay Area. Even for non-vegans, this is a pretty nice casual resturant with both sit down and take out options.

Wow, some of these reviews are brutal! I’m from southern California, came up for a short holiday with my husband. We drove by the place on our way to our lodging for the night and made the mental note to stop by for breakfast. We arrived right as they opened. Only about 3 employees, including the cook. He was prepping for later in the day, the others were still working on opening.. We placed our order at the counter and had a seat. There was only 1 other couple in the place, super quiet at 7am! Breakfast was alright, hubby had French toast, he had no complaints. I had eggs in a nest with roasted potatoes. It was good, nothing to mess up really, and it was all well seasoned. Our server, guy in his early 20s was really nice and gave me a to go cup for my tea as we were leaving. Yes, a little pricey, but that’s to be expected at a locally sourced, gluten free, vegan place. Maybe the key is to go when they first open?
