Sorry to say! I & my husband decided to give South Pine Street another try this morning & I have to say, I wish we would have just had breakfast @ home. We did get water & coffee & first, but it took our server along time for a refill:(for breakfast, I ordered the South Pine scramble .my potatoes were cold, the wheat toast was cold, & I am thinking it was old bread @ that! The only flavor that I could taste was from the(LOAD)of the corn salsa that was on much of the plate. Other than that, that was about it! My husband had a pancake that didn’t even taste like one & for the rest of it, we’ll just to much sauce/corn salsa & that’s it:( By the way, this was the one in Grass Valley!

The food is good; fresh & very unique but quite expensive. Service isn’t great; usually have to wait for coffee refills and getting the check sometimes takes forever.

I have been coming here for years. They always have the best food and service, today was no exception. My only criticism is the price. I was charged $ 2 extra for actual syrup instead of an imitation syrup like log cabin. «Good food that breaks the bank»

Excellent egg dishes, but this restaurant needs something on its walls or ceilings to deaden the cacophony. Sometimes it’s hard to hear from people across the table from you.

I was born in Grass Valley, but my family moved away when I was 2, so I don’t really know the area. It’s a quick, lovely day trip if you need a day away from Reno… Anywho, a friend and I road tripped out to Grass Valley on an emergency secret mission last week and were famished when we arrived in town. I used my nifty Unilocal powers to find a cool local restaurant to try out… There were 3 – 4 different restaurants that all had really high ratings, and after a round of eeny, meeny, miny, moe, my friend and I wound up at South Pine Café. Lucky for us, our meal was a total win! South Pine Café is a breakfast/lunch restaurant that closes at 3:00, so make sure to come early! I imagine that it must get quite busy on the weekends, but we came in on a weekday and were quickly seated and served. South Pine has a great menu that really does appeal to all kinds of palates. The moment I opened the door, the scent of pure deliciousness filled the air and I knew that we discovered the perfect place to whet our appetites. I had a difficult time deciding what to order… The breakfast aromas were so savory and tempting, but once I saw that there was a grilled brie with pesto and tomatoes(also mushrooms if you’re a fan) on parmesan-crusted Truckee sourdough, my decision was made! I think I may need to attend some meetings due to my obsession with brie… My friend ordered the chorizo benedict(english muffin, chorizo, roasted red peppers, poached eggs and avocado topped with jalapeño hollandaise, cilantro and green onions). We were both very happy with our choices, and the portions were just the right size to leave us satisfied without needing to undo any belt buckles… South pine has lots of fun drinks, too: espresso drinks, wine, beer, cocktails, fresh juices and more! I had my eye on the tonic(freshly pressed carrot juice, ginger, garlic and parsley), but when I asked my server for her recommendation, she suggested the green drink(spinach, apple, ginger, fresh lemon, and freshly pressed carrot-apple-ginger juice). She totally led me in the right direction! Green juice isn’t everyone’s thing, but it was delicious and totally reminded me of juices my mom made when I was a child… Yummy and it makes your body feel good! The prices here are quite affordable as well, with entrees ranging from about $ 9-$ 14. Considering the quality and freshness of the ingredients here, I think it’s a pretty good deal. I will definitely be back next time I hit up Grass Valley or Nevada City(they have locations in both places)!

I’ve eaten food from here twice; both times have been take out orders, so I can’t really comment on service/ambience. The people who took my orders over the phone were friendly enough. Pretty pricey food, though. It was okay tasting, but I’m sure it would have tasted better if it hadn’t been sitting in a cardboard to-go box for ten minutes. If I ever do eat at the restaurant I’ll review it again.

We have eaten here often since we moved to the area in 2015, and have never had a bad meal. They offer good Vegetarian/Vegan choices for breakfast and lunch. Smaller dining area and sometimes there is a long wait but that is just a testament to the food quality.

Holy sh** the mimosas are great and huge! Have had many fabulous meals there. Best ever french toast with berry compote special. Everything I’ve ever had there was excellent. Can’t wait to try everything on the menu.

These guys serve the best breakfasts I’ve ever had… I’ve enjoyed many of their breakfast entrees. It makes it hard to select because they’re all so delish! The fresh squeezed orange and grapefruit juice is to die for! Don’t go there when you’re in a hurry. Service isn’t slow, but the kitchen is small. Make it a time to enjoy the people you’re dining with!

My family and I have been going to So. Pine for years. The food is really fabulous, there are so many dishes that are unique to this restaurant. The Blackstone Eggs Benedict, The Carne Asada, havous Rancherous to mention a few. The fresh juices are delicious also. The service is good in regards to friendliness and attentiveness. The waiting time to be seated on weekends and holidays is so ridiculous! The time waiting to be served our food is a real issue. The Grass Valley location recently remodeled their kitchen. I was thinking this would solve the slow service problem, clearly I was mistaken. Today(Nov. 27) wait time… One hour 15 min. Serving time after ordering 45 min. If you chose S. Pine eat before you arrive!

The food was delicious, but the service wasn’t as good. Our hot drinks came out lukewarm, and we had to wait a long time to receive our breakfasts. I’m sure it would have been better if it wasn’t as busy, but I always appreciate a brunch place that can handle a busy morning crowd.

Food is delish and servers are awesome. Sometimes can be slow to get a table or get food once ordered, but usually worth the wait!

I ate here for the first time this past weekend as I was staying at the Two Room Inn up Broad Street. Our party of 6(+ baby) visited about 8:30 and we were seated promptly. The hostess originally put us at the tiniest table right by the stairway even though there were larger tables available. Luckily, she did not hesitate when we asked to be seated elsewhere. At our brand new table we looked over the menu and placed our order. The waiter put it in and brought us a pitcher for water. That was the first and last time he tended to our drinks. We ordered a variety of food and many of us were eager to try the blueberry muffins that were sitting on the counter as we walked in. The food came out in a timely manner considering all of the reviews on here that state that it usually takes forever. I’d say it was about a 20 – 25 minute wait. I ordered the lobster scramble with a blueberry muffin. It also comes with breakfast potatoes. The scramble was so delicious and the side of spinach, corn and tomatoes provided the perfect freshness to balance out such a savory dish. The potatoes were a bit bland for me so I gave them to my anti-seasoning sister. She ordered the potato pancakes which, when paired with the pesto, she found to be over the top in the flavor department. Naturally, we traded, and even I found the potato pancake to be overwhelming. My friend ordered eggs which were made incorrectly twice before she gave up on eating there altogether. She wanted the whites cooked thoroughly and the yolks runny. Both times the whites were significantly undercooked. The muffins turned out to be underwhelming, but I appreciated that they were freshly baked. Our waters were never refilled after we poured out our first round from the pitcher… we all left pretty thirsty! Overall, I left pretty neutral to this establishment. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it. I really liked the lobster scramble but the rest was just«meh!» The rest of the party didn’t seem to particularly care for this place though. If I were in the area again I might consider a revisit… but then again, there are always other restaurants to try!

«Calling all artist!» Great food takes time… Great food also attracts a crowd. So get your tummy timing ready and take out that sketch book! Lol; p …jk Hey It was my first time, I didn’t come prepared so I used the kids section to draw. Parties of like 2 – 8 were in line before us, we didn’t leave because a friend told us it was worth it. We agree through our own experience. Here are just a few things I love of this place… Healthy or knotty choices available, homemade ketchup, almond milk latte, real maple syrup and apple chicken sausage. I have to pay the price, I am allergic to eggs, dairy, wheat, yeast, and more… This place is very accommodating to my needs. I actually feel like I belong and I have time to draw. I’m happy… Keep up the good attitude staff, I understand your popularity. Don’t let it back fire on you, just keep us informed. Thank you

UGH — I swear they are growing the potatoes for each order. It is taking FOREVER to get our food. I am sooooo HANGRY right now. Ok here’s what happened. We stopped in for brunch before a wedding. The whole process took 3 hours. 1 hour waiting to be seated, 2 hours to get our food. The food is good, but make sure you have nothing planned as it will eat up the majority of your day.

Everytime I go to another restaurant for breakfast I wonder why. The food, the service, are great. Little loud is the only complaint and wish they had real margaritas and blood marys. Oh, well… LOVETHEPLACE. I dream about the nut burger with added chipotle…

South Pine Café is a excellent choice for breakfast, lunch and beer. Their quality ingredients in each meal will leave you feeling like you’ve eaten something naughty because it tastes that yummy! I order the lobster Benedict with jalapeño hollandaise sauce served with home fries, it’s the very first choice on the menu. The hands preparing this incredible plate of love is the only reason why you should keep coming back to SPC. This Benedict, is insanely good and I’ve never had anything like it. Two perfect poached eggs rest on top of two English muffins covered with a generous amount of decent size lobster pieces in a jalapeño hollandaise sauce that is to die for. You can also order this sauce on the side even if you don’t order the lobster Benedict. I’ve already been back again and ordered something off of their lunch menu which was, also made with love. The chicken club wrap has grilled chicken, bacon bits, spring mix, tomatoes, and garlic feta dressing wrapped beautifully in a soft green tortilla. The service was excellent, the food is phenomenal and the price is right. SPC has something for every mouth that is hungry, if your vegan or vegetarian they serve up a killer spicy Jamaican tofu scramble and a screamin thai chicken burrito with thai peanut sauce. I can’t wait to try everything else that they make because they don’t mess around in the kitchen!

I may move to Grass Valley so I can eat here everyday! This is an easy-to-get-to restaurant in the heart of Grass Valley off HWY49. I am giving this restaurant 5 stars because I wanted to eat everything on the menu. I had to ask for recommendations from my server(whom was super cute, personable, and knowledgeable about everything on the menu). We decided on the Nut Burger, a vegetarian burger made with nuts and topped with brie cheese, lettuce, tomato and an amazing sun-dried tomato pesto sauce. The burger was«embraced» by a soft, lovely potato bread bun(my photo doesn’t do it justice). OMG! My first bite was mind-altering – so many flavors overpowering my mouth all at once, yet synchronized in a way that some genius could only think of. By the second bite I realized there was just a little crunch from the nuts, the perfect amount of crunch! My friend got the Lobster Melt. OMG! Lobster is not something I would order in a foothill town, but believe me this lobster tasted better than some of the fresher catches I have had near the ocean. Both items are served with your choice of sides: salad, home fries, or soup. I chose the home fries which I thought needed a little salt, but went well with the tasty Nutburger. My friend got the side salad with feta garlic dressing. The greens were really fresh and the salad dressing was homemade and delicious. Not only was the food 5 stars, but the beverages were also. They actually have a separate Beverage Menu(I get excited about these things)! I chose the Ginger, Carrot, Apple Juice. And what do you know? They juiced it right in front of me FRESH! They also make their own sodas and 3 kinds of lemonade. My server told me they don’t have a deep fryer in the restaurant so you can count on everything being more healthy than not. They make their own ketchup and sell it along with jams and other sauces. A true delight!
