This place is off the hook good! My folks used to live up here but relocated about 10 years ago so it’s been that long since we were here. We were hoping this place was still around 10 years later and were not disappointed. Burgers are great The root beer is some of the best we’ve ever had and they make it there. They also have their own corn dogs and their shakes come with a tin. We grabbed a hot fudge sundae for dessert and it came with hand scooped ice cream and plenty of hot fudge. I would recommend Big A’s to anybody for a great cooked to order Meal that won’t disappoint!

Their rootbeer is to die for!!! They make their own and it’s wonderful! And free refills to boot! They have many burgers to choose from… Cheeseburgers with mushrooms, bleu cheese, Teriyaki, and many other wonderful concoctions! Garlic pesto fries are delicious, onion rings are perfect and regular fries are good too. Milkshakes and floats are fabulous. Bottom line… You can’t go wrong here!

I had good food here today, but it bothers me to pay $ 15 for a burger, fries and a soda and there is no table service. It seems so expensive. The food was good though. The youngish blond who takes the orders can seem surly. No smiling. That has been my experience of her each time I have been here, like it bothers her that I exist.

Totally shocking. From outside, looks like an 80s dive that you want to avoid at all costs. I’ve passed this place on the road a thousand times but finally stumbled in with a friend while waiting for a movie next door. This place is fantastic. Root beer in a frosty glass mug. 5 star gourmet burgers. Onion rings battered and fried to perfection. Was totally surprised. Tons of options. fast free wifi. Fast service.

I’ve been here several times in the last year and the food has been very consistent as well as tasty. The staff is on the young side and I’ve been impressed with how courteous and professional they are. Today I had the patty melt with the naturally raised beef and I asked to have it cooked well done(that’s the way I roll with ground beef) and I realize that cooks and chiefs don’t like to cook good meat to that extent, but they did it and it was delicious. Also I recommend the truffle oil fries with parmigiano and parsley.

Awesome milkshakes, great atmosphere, good burgers. My kids like to come here for the root beer and fries. It is an old time frosty place and they do serve a natural beef burger!

Checked this place out on a visit to the amazing Empire Mine(5 stars!). Ordered 2 regular size root beer floats. Plus for being large and coming in a real glass mug. Plus for the fun ordering style ‘drive up’ box. Plus for being under $ 3 each. Minus for cleanliness(yucky bathrooms and the tables were not wiped and sticky, as was the floor). Sadly, the root beer float was only ‘ok.’ Not terrible, but not that great either. Even the kids said the ones we make at home were better. The root beer was a little flat and too sweet for my taste. Props if it’s homeade, as some reviewers commented, but the kids and I, weren’t impressed. We didn’t try the food, although some of the items looked interesting. I dig ‘hole in the walls,’ but only if the food is exceptional. Not sure if I’ll be back to try it out, since I was a bit turned off by the sticky floors and tables.

The future is here and it looks like the past! Big A’s is a classic A&W root beer style drive in restaurant. They serve burgers, pulled pork, Patty melts, and other American style food. Their kids menu is nice with the highlight being smiley fries! The root beer floats in frost mugs are delicious, and they give FREE refills on the root beer! They have indoor seating if you don’t want to have food delivered to your car. Also, they have converted a few of the drive in parking spaces to covered picnic tables! And they left the the speaker so you can order directly to your picnic table! The only problem is a drank too much root beer and got a tummy ache!

Great Rootbeer, so if that’s what you love, it’s for you. We stopped in to give our kids an old fashioned«drive-in» dining experience, and that’s what we got. The parking spaces are shaded, and you order from a two-way speaker at the parking space. The server brings out the food promptly on a tray that hangs off your car window. The food was decent, better than fast food burgers, but not gormet food. It’s exactly what it claims to be. I’m only giving it three stars because I thought the prices were a little too high. We ordered three 1⁄3 lb burgers, a corn dog, 312 oz. rootbeers and 212oz. floats. The bill was $ 47.00. The experience was good one time, but we probably won’t go back because we look for better value for our dollar.

This is our go to place for a good hamburger. The garlic pesto fries are finger licking good too. And then top it all off with a root beer or a handmade milkshake… awesome and you are full! The kids that work there are great too. The owners are also big supporters of the community. They have a lot of cool events and give back to the kids and other organizations here locally. An old fashioned American Graffiti type drive in with a fabulous menu and generous portions. If you’ve never been and you live around Grass valley… what are you waiting for?

Big A’s is a great place for a burger don’t judge by its appearance! The staff is friendly and efficient and the food is always served fresh. There are a lot of burger options in the Grass Valley/Nevada City area, but few offer grass fed or organic beef. Big A’s has there traditional beef, but they also offer Niman Ranch Organic Beef or for a little more Kobe Beef. It is always satisfying and consistent. The sweet potato fries are awesome too! Big As is a great classic burger spot and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone!

Food was pretty good but 35 bucks is a rip off for 2 burgers a order of fries a order of onion rings and 2 small root beers. Won’t see me again

I will start with 4 stars as this was my first time here. I ordered the fish and chips, along with a large root beer. The fish was very good, the fries were average. The coleslaw side order wasn’t so good for my taste in slaw. The root beer was FANTASTIC, I had no idea that it was homemade until my friend told me so. Next time I will try the Chicago dog and a root beer float. The service was good, and the staff was good ! Especially since it was very busy, I give them an A+ for the speed and service and personality.

I was in the area servicing my Gutter Helmet customers and stumbled upon this awesome place. Ordered the bacon burger and asked them to grill my onions. Wow! You will be in heaven with this huge juicy burger! The fries had that rich flavor too and the root beer was like the old days. Truly, out of this world. You can tell they make everything from scratch. Now the problem is, I’m three hours away! Shoot!

Sonora Burger was fantastic as was the Rosemary Chicken burger. We had the curly fries and pesto fries too which were amazing. Will be back! Just wish they weren’t so expensive. For two burgers, two fires and a shake it was a lil over $ 30. Not too bad but ehh. Food was worth it though!!!

Ordered a hot dog. The reason I did so because it was a miller dog and I knew that they were huge. Got the dog, Chicago style(or their version of the Chi-Town favorite) and the dog was fine. The problem was the small, weak bun which disintegrated the moment I picked it up. You can’t use flimsy little buns. You need big, sturdy buns to hold a miller. Otherwise it tasted OK. The issue I have with Big A’s? THEFLIES. Holy crap, I felt like was in the staring role of Lord of the Flies. There were so many flies indoors tried to use one hand to eat my disintegrating hot dog bun and the other, now full of mustard because of the hot dog bun, to slap the flies away from my food. Then the flies started to go after the hand with mustard and onions all over it. For a minute I expected Jeff Goldblum to jump put in full The Fly costume and say«Gotcha!» Worst experience ever. Never again.

We were passing through town, hot tired And looking for Pine Street burgers. Pine Street was crowded, loud and hot. We turned back and decided to try Big A’s. The burgers were DELICIOUS and the fries were Badass! Root beer floats were 99 cents… Sunday special. Our whole meal was up in minutes. Wow! Very impressed. Best hamburger I remember eating since I was a kid when food was real(I’m 48). This place rocks!

I effin love this place. Best pesto garlic fries in the whole county(I’ve tried them all), best root beer, and never disappointed with any of the other food. Granted the place is a bit ghetto and dated, but who cares if the food is delicious! This is gem and I’m happy that not many other people feel the same way yet… keeps the service solid and the food consistent and delectable.
