Frustrating lately, and I’ve been coming here for some time because the rolls are great. There seems to be some tension among the staff, especially the head chef and waitress. Uncomfortable. An hour fifteen is also too long for two rolls and an appetizer. Looking elsewhere.

The blonde waitress, was fantastic, very friendly and quick. I tend to be a very demanding patron and she was willing to run back and forth getting me my every need. Oh and the sushi is delish.

RUDESERVERALERT I have eaten here a number of times. The roll size is very small compared to all of the other local sushi places, but it has good flavor. I typically go to Musashi on H when I want sushi, but they close at 2 so when I want sushi for lunch, I go to Umi because they close a little later. Wanted to give props to Thomas and the cooks in the back because they are very nice. The main reason for my review today is because I am sick and tired of the rude server named Alli.(She is the girl server with blonde hair and looks to be in her late 20s) I have given her so many chances and she has been rude every single time. She makes me feel like an inconvenience to her. The first couple times she was rude to me, I made excuses for her thinking that maybe she was having a bad day. But the last few times that she has waited on me, she is super friendly to her work mates and as soon as she comes to my table she is a whole different person. I have even tried extra hard to be nice to her so that MAYBE she would be nice to me. When I say thank you, she doesn’t say«you’re welcome.» She looks at me(not smiling) and doesn’t say anything back. I’ve even caught her rolling her eyes. One time I came in with my husband on a date and saw she was basically kissing a customers butt(He looked like he had money) so I thought she must be in a good mood and I was excited. NOPE. She treated us the same as always. Today as I left for lunch, I smiled and wished her a good day. She just stared at me. She didn’t smile back or say thank you. I was so close to walking back in and taking the tip away because she is such a rude and snooty person. I didn’t do that because I think some of the tip goes to the chef and he deserved a tip. I’ve given ally multiple chances and this was the final straw. In the future, if I come here for lunch and Ally is working, I’m walking right back out and going somewhere else. Management please pay attention to how she treats the customers. She is super nice to you, but she treats your customers like crap unless they look like they have a lot of money. Then she is fake so she might get a nice tip. If she didn’t work there anymore, you might have more business. And if you’re reading this, Ally my minimum tip is always $ 5, and I typically tip 30%+ because I know how it is to be a server. There is a reason I only tipped you 20% on an $ 11 check. You deserved $ 0.

Their service is amazing, their sushi is amazing, and their prices are amazing. They definitely cater to families and have awesome patience with kiddos. We go here once a week and it never disappoints.

I’ve always liked this place and have been there around 10 times since they opened. It’s just gone steadily downhill though. The service is good but it just seems like the quality of fish is off. I was served the worst tuna roll(1 of the simplest sushi plates) I’ve ever had. It was a deep, blackish, bloody color and had a very strong odor and taste. I asked the very nice waitress about it, she asked the chef and he said«it’s just oxidized, don’t worry about it».

Excellent food, great service. Everything was fresh, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Very clean restuarant and good location. Will definitely eat there again. Also try their house sake, it’s actually really good.

Give them a break– this is pretty darn good for the area– and I mean anywhere outside of maybe LA, and even then they compete– stick with the menu or ask the chef at the sushi bar what to order– it’s good!

This is, in my opinion, the best Sushi Restaurant in Grants Pass. We moved here from Half Moon Bay California and are Sushi fanatics. We’ve tried all of the most highly recommended Sushi Restaurants in the area and this is our favorite. They make their own sauces… yes even the soy and teriyaki sauces are made in house. The fish is FRESH and for you vegetarians… The Agedashi tofu is the best I’ve ever tasted. The service is decent and the people are very nice!

Service could have definitely been more friendly and attentive. There was us and one other guy in restaurant and we ordered around same time as him and we didn’t receive our 3 basic roles for 35 minutes. Quality was ok. Bathroom was dirty. Definitely in need of some management

Umi is almost three stars and they can get there with a couple of tweaks. Unlike previous reviewers I thought the wait staff was very friendly and I was greeted coming and going and met with smiles with every interaction. The food is well priced but just«okay». I had a hand roll that was tasty but sloppy. Where things sort of fall apart is in the speed the food gets to the table(both sushi and cooked dishes). For edamame, one roll, and one hand roll I was there for over an hour. Take out seemed to be a bit faster so maybe they are prioritizing those orders. For being in an area with several hotels I was also surprised they didn’t take American Express, although that is not a big deal,

This was my first time here. Food was decent but the service was excruciatingly slow. Took almost 30 mins to get a single roll. Our water was left empty for most of the meal. We won’t be back.

Umi Sushi is a local favorite of mine for their wonderful take on teriyaki chicken. It’s a dish that I can continue to eat and never get tired of. The restaurant makes some excellent food which is the main reason I go there. The reason I only give 3 stars is in regards to the atmosphere. During some of my visits the restaurant has had a dirty smelling odor and the décor seems to be fading. With such a bright, vibrant logo and amazing food Umi Sushi has so much potential. This is a business the community needs to stand behind and help improve. I’ll continue to eat at Umi Sushi.

We got a lunch order to go, and it was fantastic. The staff and sushi chef were very nice and did a great job. I’m glad we decided to try this place, it was worth the risk, and they had some really great rolls here.

Great sushi!!! Price is good for the quality, in a bigger city they could easily charge more. Don’t just stick to the norm here, try some of the stuff on the bottom of the menu. A+ on the pot stickers;)

My husband and I decided to go on a nice bike ride this evening and we were not really sure where we wanted to eat dinner. On our way into town, we saw Umi Sushi and decided to give it a try since we have not been to this sushi restaurant yet. That was, by far, one of the best dinner experiences we have had in quite some time! We were greeted as soon as we walked in and the waitress told us that we were able to sit anywhere we would like to; unfortunately the patio was not open tonight. We sat by a window and our waitress immediately came over to ask if we wanted anything to drink, then gave us a few minutes to order. We ordered the sashimi appetizer, teriyaki chicken, spicy chicken, and california roll. It came with soup, which was amazing! The food over all was fantastic and SO fresh! Our sashimi was so full of flavor and, in my opinion, the best in town. Our chicken was tender as well as juicy and jam packed with astonishing flavor too! The california roll was delious! It had the perfect ratio of its ingredients and it was not hard at all! My husband and I will definitely be returning and you can bet we will be recommending Umi to everyone we know that likes this type of cuisine! Thank you for being wonderful!

The atmosphere here was only OK. It seemed very sterile, which cleanliness you want in a restaurant but a bland environment you don’t. The staff were friendly, helpful, and patient. We got a variety of basic rolls, udon soup, and miso soup. Most the rolls were a little bland, they were missing a good sauce. The rolls I ordered were a special veggie kind I get from a sushi place in Eugene. They actually did a good job accommodating my special order and seemed eager to do it. Those were delicious, as usual. The udon soup had a good variety of ingredients but was also fairly bland.

Excellent Sushi again for our second time. The sashimi is so fresh. We ordered the combination plate, Vegas and some other deluxe plate. All was delicious. NEGATIVE: Only 2 sushi chefs on a Friday night with a big party of guys who were going outside and smoking weed. We wanted to place another order but due to only 2 chefs, we had a 20 min wait. Took our bill and said we would come back on week night.
