On my recent visit to the Wealthy Street Bakery, which i always stop at on my visits to Grand Rapids, I really wanted a cup of coffee(8.15pm on Friday night) as I was placing my order for the baked goods the young lady took the coffee pots and threw out the coffee, I said oh I guess Im too late for coffee she said yes, I said could I have an Americano she looked at me and said no sorry we have stopped serving coffee, meanwhile a party of 7 came in for coffee and were told no they were too late for coffee, one of the ladies was very upset at a coffee shop which closes at 9pm would not have coffee at 8.15.the young man said they had just cleaned the coffee station but if she was willing to wait a few minutes he would make her coffee,(what am I chopped liver) Your baked goods are great, would loved to try your coffee, and the service needs help.

Very good – and often busy. Lovely pastries like croissants and scones. Good fresh baked bread selection. They have a light rye bread that is ALMOST as good as the Grand Rapids holy grail of light rye bread – the legendary American Bread Company light rye bread. Since ABC has been gone now for many years, many GR residents have been in mourning for their breads, but especially the light rye. It was a staple for Easter, Christmas(Lines ran out to the street). Wealthy Bakery’s light rye, while not quite the same, is the closest I have found. Now if they would find/buy the old ABS recipe, life in GR would be perfect :)

If I could give this place zero stars I would. My sister, niece, friend and her kids and myself ventured out to try lunch here today and I was beyond shocked by the lack of accommodations for dietary and medical needs, as well as the mixed up orders, high prices that don’t match the quality of the food, and the signs that request that you bus your own table; because serving your own water, silverware and condiments isn’t enough duty for your customers. My first problem was that all the registers were down upon arrival. Granted this was not the staffs fault, but this had everyone in a frenzy and made them that much more rude. The second problem was when I asked for a half caff latte. I was told they could not do half caff; it had to either be full caff or decaf. When I asked why they couldn’t just do a shot of each, she said that the espresso machine makes 2 shots at a time so therefore one shot of each would go wasted and they wouldn’t do that for me. Well that part of my order was cancelled. The third problem was when ordering my salad I asked for chicken on it and was told it was breaded chicken. I said I couldn’t have the breading due to being gluten free. Their accommodation was to slice up turkey meat and throw it on the salad. It seemed very strange to me that a bakery and café type place would only offer breaded, not grilled, chicken. Especially for a place that offers gluten free bread… The fourth problem was when my sister was eyeing the pizza and realized they wouldn’t serve those until after 4pm. She then thought maybe a panini type sandwich would be good, especially because she is 7 months pregnant and all lunch meat has to be warmed to kill any bacteria so as not to harm the baby. However, there was an additional posting that paninis wouldn’t be served until after 2pm. It appears that they refuse to turn on any type of oven until after lunch hour. Why? I have no clue, and it cuts down half their menu. The fifth problem was when my sister ordered her sandwich and asked if they could pop it into the microwave for 30 seconds to just kill the bacteria. They replied by saying they were too busy for that and could not do it. Needless to say she ended up with just soup for lunch. The sixth problem was having our food arrive in disarray. My salad arrived immediately. But then everyone else’s food took a good 20min. The kids meals were all mixed up, they put my sisters soup as a side to one of the kids sandwiches, and didn’t give the chips with a kids meal. The waiter was even asking us what we ordered, and at one point the waitress circled our table numerous times because she didn’t even know who the food belonged to. I have no clue how this place has a high star rating. There is nothing about this bakery that is exceptional, unique, warm or inviting. Panera does a better job at accommodating requests and providing better tasting food than this place does. I also have no clue how they stay in business or how they have repeat customers. Because I know no one in my group will return.

I’ve found my visits to Wealthy Street Bakery rather hit-or-miss. I’ve purchased some incredible bread here(hello chocolate cherry loaf!!) along with some rather blah pastries and cookies. I really appreciate that they’ve added a dedicated shelving unit next to the pastry counter containing individually wrapped gluten-free vegan baked goods. On my last visit I tried their GF chocolate chip cookie and left impressed by how close the taste and crumbly texture resembled more traditional flour-based cookies. They now have a small lunch/dinner menu that I’ve been meaning to try. Pizzas, sandwiches and other baked goods which you can pair with a bottle of beer or glass of wine. Early risers can enjoy a cup of Intelligentsia coffee with your order. If you’re not allergic to gluten please do try their frosted cinnamon rolls. One of these and a black coffee on a cold morning… wow, memories.

I stopped in yesterday AM to grab a quick breakfast bite and a hot chocolate before a meeting. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of people there, however, there was no line and tables still open. I ordered the breakfast croissant with bacon and a hot chocolate with whipped cream. I took my order and had a seat to wait. The hot chocolate came out first and it was okay… maybe I’m partial to Starbuck’s more decant and rich style. This tasted more like a packet… so I probably wouldn’t go back for a hot chocolate. The breakfast sandwich came out rather quickly. it was awesome! Fresh and HOT! The croissant was flaky and delicious, the bacon, cheese, ham, and eggs were all very very good. The sandwich itself was a bit of a mess… but taste was amazing. Good size, too! Service was super friendly and quick. It was clean and not too crowded, too. I’d def. stop back in for a quick breakfast bite!

I’ll preface by saying many of my friends have enjoyed the food here, but I unfortunately did not. If you order a sandwich I recommend not getting the gluten free bread. This might seem obvious to most but it’s what I prefer and they have a pretty extensive gluten free bread and pastry menu however their sandwich bread fell quite short. It’s previously frozen, way too crumbly, cut too thick, and too dense a texture. The cashier was rude and wouldn’t toast the bread or give a reason as to why she wouldn’t. Most of the other food coming out looked good, but my tuna salad sandwich was not. I got two whole sandwiches(4 pieces of gluten free bread total) since the regular bread sandwich is quite large/long so they did that to compensate. Needless to say after the first bite I was bummed to be left with two whole sandwiches that I wasn’t excited to eat. No diss, but not my cup of tea.

Not happy. Something is seemingly different about this bakery. I used to frequent here quite often and can’t help but notice a change in ownership. The quality of product has dipped and along with it the customer service. It leaves me to make the assumption that the owner not only stopped purchasing higher class ingredients, but also started paying employees lower wages. A high turnover in staff doesn’t bode well when it comes to regular customers. I have an expectation that was once met when I walked through the doors of wealthy street bakery and now I am greeted with a crap product, poor service and a migraine from that awful flute music. Thanks Jim.

Cookies were very blah kind of like a Meijer cookie. I will give them a 2nd chance on their other offerings but so far not very impressed.

This is a bakery… not a restaurant, not a deli, not a coffeeshop, THISIS A BAKERYWHEREYOUCANGETFOODWITHTHIERBREAD. I’m giving this place 5 stars to counteract all the low stars given, because as far as a local bakery, this place is great. The foccacia is to die for, the variety is great, the pastries are well made.

Very cute and very quaint bakery! My only complaint is the service. I had ordered a chicken Caesar salad and paid for it. The workers neglected to tell me that they were out of Caesar dressing until I had already ordered and paid for my $ 15 salad. I was given ranch without being informed. I am highly allergic to ranch and it is fortunate that my boyfriend caught the mix up before I had consumed any. However, I would recommend the sandwiches– the club sandwich is to die for!

Being gluten free is tough, so when we went on a Craigslist errand in Grand Rapids I noticed the Wealthy Street Bakery and knew we needed to stop. Not only do they have GF treats that switch up every day, but they have sandwich bread, muffins, cookies and scones. Some of their GF items are even vegan, which for our house was perfect. The young lady who helped us was quick and very helpful. She greeted us with a smile and happily recommend her favorite GF cookie. We tried the cinnamon rolls and took a couple cookies home. I was happy because they serve Intellegista coffee, which I adore. We both had decaf lattes that were prepared very well. The rolls were excellent. Usually GF means dry, but these were an exceptional blend of flours. It was obvious that some time had been invested in this recipe. The filling was a little too sweet, but we could forgive that. The frosting was very good as well. We sat outside and enjoyed the quite neighborhood and free wifi. This is a bakery we will be re-visiting.

Amazing baked goods and food in the afternoon hours if you are not in a sweet food mood. However, beware of the Wi-Fi speed(very slow)!

This rating has everything to do with customer service. Or the lack there of. The staff tonight was rude and not very thoughtful. I was sitting at my computer talking on the phone when out of nowhere I begin to hear death metal over the speakers. I went to wealthy Street bakery for a peaceful calm environment and instead experienced a rude and violent environment. I don’t go to wealthy Street bakery for the death metal!

Awesome! Stopped here for lunch, ordered the chicken salad sandwich and tomato-basil bisque. Sandwich was great, chicken salad not too messy good flavor. The soup was really the best part of the order, really excellent flavor. Plus they have lots of cookies and rolls for desert. Only sad that they don’t make their pizza until 4pm, really wanted to try the Pizza Margherita.

Awesome! Great food, we tried the wealthy street club, which was outstanding and more than enough for just one person to eat! Came with crazy good fresh chips. My wife tried the house salad and soup combo, loved it! Even the brewed iced tea was great! Took a cupcake for the road! Woohoo!

My husband and I went in one night for desserts. We ordered a nice little assortment of sweets, and it was all so good! The morning glory muffin and gluten-free cinnamon roll were especially great. Cute and cozy atmosphere, too. Can’t wait to try their savory stuff next time! We’ll most definitely be back.

My host brought me to the Wealthy Street Bakery for lunch around 12:30PM. Sandwich shops are my favorite thing, but, wow, I had a great sandwich. When we arrived, the place was quite busy but we didn’t have to wait in line long at all to order and we found a table immediately. The food came out quickly too. I ordered the«Monaco» sandwich. The bread was fresh and excellent, and the ingredients were in perfect proportion and with a tasty sauce. The goat cheese gave me a little protein for a vegetarian sandwich. It was a five-star sandwich! I also had a cup of the tomato soup. It was thick(good), with pureed tomato. Gotta love tomatoes. Afterwards, I had a blackberry danish. I could tell it was freshly made there. The jam was good but could have been a little thicker. I had an excellent meal here and would like to try their other items.

One of my favorite places to have coffee, get lunch(amazing sandwiches, or pick up an awesome loaf of bread or some tasty cinnamon rolls. My dad says that they are the best he’s ever had — I buy them when he visits and even bring them when I visit him. :) Note: the baked goods are individually priced. So it can get really expensive if you’re treating large groups. However, this is a really cute, bright and bustling bakery with plenty of space for seating. I often see students with laptops and people meeting here with coworkers. My personal favorite time to go here is at night in the winter. It’s quieter and cozier, and the perfect time to sit with a hot drink and something good to read(they have magazines & newspapers) or play Scrabble(they also have games). My only complaints are that they are closed on Sundays and they run out of the best stuff too quickly. :)

11am on a Saturday and line is around the store. Clearly, I’m not the only person that loves this place. By the time I got to ordering(and no, the line didn’t take long; they get you through quickly), two of the items I initially wanted were out. At the recommendation of the person working, I got the Tomato Basil Focaccia Bread. It was soft but dense, savory and filling. I wouldn’t normally have ordered it but it was a happy accident that I did. I ate mine cold until about halfway through when my friend pointed out a microwave to heat it up. I finished it cold but next time I’ll try heating it up.

This bakery was pretty busy during the lunch hour. The wait in line was probably a five minute wait which was fine. That gave me more time to decide what I wanted to order. There were no more tables so I ordered my food to go. The pastries and others looked tempting while standing in line. I decided to order a whole The Godfather($ 6.59 for half, $ 8.49 for whole, and $ 9.69 for combo). The description sounded good to me, so I ordered it. I also ordered a Cream Cheese Danish($ 2.59) which was pretty big. It took awhile for the sandwich to come out but that was fine with me. The Godfather sandwich was very tasty and a whole sandwich would definitely be enough for two people. I finished the whole thing which made me full. The sandwich did come with chips which were the greasy kind. The Cream Cheese Danish was good but it was pretty big. It was a big dessert but still good. I definitely recommend trying this place out even if it’s for to go.
