I was a bit hesitant to walk into this store because I assumed it would be over-priced and pretentious. But I was pleasantly surprised. I walked around for a few minutes and was asked if I needed any help… which I appreciate. I really liked their selection of small items from soaps to vinegars to kitchen utensils to wine glasses. They have a small selection of red and white wine, liquor, cheese, gelato, chocolates, and a small walk in beer cooler in the back of the store too. This is a great place if you need to grab a unique gift for someone especially if they like food, alcohol, or cooking. Some of the items were over-priced, but most were not too bad. I purchased a bar of pineapple soap from France that smells amazing! I’ll definitely be returning to check out any new items in stock!

I stopped in on a whim to look for Michigan themed items for a Christmas giftbox. I have visited before but somehow forgot that they have such a huge selection of gifts and products. I walked up to floor to ceiling shelves of artisan salsa, teas, spices, flavorings, jams, butters and every other condiment in between. At the suggestion of the friendly staff member, I found several Michigan themed items, including adorable tea towels, a mitten cheese platter, cutting board and more cherry themed items than I could count. I picked a package of lavender almonds(MI made natch) and a super cool, totally novel Michigan stamped ego towel. I think my friend will be delighted to have these as part of the gift. Next time I’ll be back to sample the beer and cheese selection for gifts for the most important person on my list– me!

A great place to find interesting and unusual items. Staff is helpful and will give a review of favorite things or help with care packages. The prices are on par with Downtown Market but that is expected. A gift shop or something for foodie friends for certain!

Gentrification of Wealthy in it’s purest form. To me it seems to be shop designed for the Forest Hills/Ada and Grandville-esq housewife. The only reason I shop here is due to the location. Small, but good beer selection. Other reviews seem to put the service on blast, I thought their service was great. Always seemed friendly with me. Prices seem to be a tad high to me, but perhaps that’s the cost of opening a chic store on wealthy. Overall– it’s not a bad place– not a great place.

Horrible service, horrible smell, snooty owner who thinks you are trying to steal and follows you around the store. Rude! Go somewhere else!!!

I’ll keep this review short and sweet — GOHERE! This is a great little shop, with all kinds of cool culinary items and foods. BACONSPREAD?! So… my favorite thing? Simple: the beer cooler. Create my own six pack of a depth of Michigan beers? I think I will. Also, lots of nice décor items for sale — my wife loved browsing the store while I checked out the wines and beers.

Positives: I love to window shop here — I used to live really close and do that a lot. :) Their windows and displays are lovely. I’ve been inside about fifteen times probably. They have an amazing collection of a variety of cool stuff(food and non-food, all price points), and it’s a great place to go if you need a cute gift. I brought my mom here once and she wants to go back whenever she is in town. Negatives: There really is SOMUCH stuff crammed into this tiny space that it can be overwhelming. If I don’t know exactly what I am looking for, I find it hard to relax & take my time to look around because the people working here are breathing down my neck the whole time.

A bit pricey. I love Lambic but can find the beer cheaper at any other place. I’m suprised it’s still open. If you’re not dressed correctly, staff stare you down like you’re going to steal a spoon, napkin, slice of cheese, or some other crap for sale here.

My patience with this place has expired, so I will not be going back. Normally I stop in here once or twice a week to pick up gifts, wine, beer or cheese, and I appreciate their line of kitchenwares. They carry great brands, and I was thinking of special ordering more Schott Zweisel stemware from here to support a local company rather than going online. Their prices are a bit high but completely reasonable for a specialty store – I appreciate they don’t have the buying power of Target, and I will pay more because it’s worth it when a store like this edits down their selection to just the good stuff. However, I can’t give them more than two stars because their service is terrible! I’ve never once walked in and actually felt like they were happy to see me, let alone remembered that I’ve been a long time customer. They’re huge sticklers for IDing everyone you’re in the store with if you’re buying alcohol, which is fine, but you don’t have to snap at my companion(s) standing next to me at the register that you need to see their ID. None of us look like we’re under 21, we’re all happy to show you our ID, so why the hostility? This has happened numerous times, and it would be nice that the same handful of employees who see me week after week actually recall that I’m old enough to buy alcohol. In addition, there really is an awful smell that hits you when you first walk in the door. It’s so bad that I’ve almost asked about it several times but couldn’t figure out the best way to bring it up. It’s not quite as bad once you’re inside the store, and some days are better than others, but it’s so unappealing!

I really, really want to like this establishment. They have a great selection of products and I would love to support this local business but I have had a less than pleasant experience each time I’ve been. The shop from the outside appears to be very cute and adorable but it’s not until you’re deep within it’s belly that the cute and adorable façade crumbles to reveal something much different. Upon opening the door I was hit with a wall of stench. This is not a metaphor. The place actually smells. I can only describe it as a combination of broccoli farts and the decaying carcass of an unfortunate rodent that met it’s fate in a bucket of fermenting milk. I wish this was a exaggeration. Art of the Table has now been dubbed«Fart of the Table» based on its smell AND stinky attitude. With twice-weekly(and expensive) visits to the store I bought some Pâté de Campagne as a birthday treat only to discover it was ROTTEN and green. When I returned it the next day the woman at the counter did not apologize, acted affronted and suspicious while glaring at me. After accepting store credit for the return I picked out a lovely bottle of Viognier, handed over my ID only to be refused. My license expired literally hours before ONMYBIRTHDAY. I’m almost 30 years old. She made it sound like I was an unruly parasite trying to buy expensive wine for underage kids outside. Go to Martha’s for a better wine/cheese/beer selection, along with delightful staff. Go to G.B. Russo for an awesome selection of high end kitchen items. Sans stank. Smell can be overlooked, however customer service and politeness(or lack there of) cannot.

The best part about this store is that you can’t make a mistake — everything in here is high quality! They find the stuff no one else has heard of so when you buy something you aren’t paying for the product’s marketing or brand — you’re just paying for the quality! They have wines here that I didn’t even know existed — but are every bit as good as the more famous bottles that are many times more expensive. It’s a HUGE time saver to go in here. Just ask the staff and they’ll give great recommendations. My wife is a super«foodie» person and I recently surprised her with a dinner party. I wanted to make sure the wines would be outstanding, and totally trusted this store to help make selections. I bought a mixed case. The day of the party the owner surprised me by calling and offering to deliver it for free! The wine was a smash hit — easily would have spent twice that much money and tons more time researching it and buying it anywhere else. For as many times as you end up buying a wine or beer that you regret, this place is a money saver because they won’t steer you wrong!

One of my favorite places to go in Grand Rapids. When it comes to specialty drinks and indulgences Art of the Table offers only the finest. They do not mess around with mass produced low budget products but instead offer a nice spread of the most excellent products, including very affordable options. My favorite aspects just to name a few: –Educated Staff: staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. –Wine: Incredible selection, yet to purchase anything i was disappointed in. –Walk in Beer Cooler: awesome beer, available by the single bottle. –Dancing Goat Creamery Cheese: if you haven’t tried yet, do soon! –Very local. Promote businesses in the area doing a good job.

Great for gifts and sweet little items. Everything from table cloths and placemats to plates to wine and even great ice cream. A little hole in the wall, but one filled with many temptations!~ I agree with Lola, shop at Art of the Table and then head next door to Wealthy Street Bakery!

This is one of the most delightful stores! It’s right next door to Wealthy Street Bakery, where you can get some of the areas best baked goods. Art of the Table is an eclectic artsy inventive sort of store. It’s a place where you can find a set of bamboo plates and all sorts of interesting cooking aids and books. When I was there last, they were doing a product sampling of ice cream/geletos. If you’re looking for an interesting gift or like unique items for your home, this is a store you’ll enjoy. It’s not a large place, but the décor and arrangements are really fun to browse. I also appreciated the time and attention they took in gift wrapping a gift selection which I had purchased. While not inexpensive, you’ll find many items here that you won’t see in most other stores in Grand Rapids.

I just stoped into this place today and it is absolutely adorable. They have very cute items to decorate your table with along with cheeses, spreads and wine. Defineately a great place to find a gift for someone special. They do tend to be on the pricer side but the stuff they have, you won’t find most other places.
