I don’t write many reviews. Usually when they are very good or very bad. In this case, very good. I travel all over the world and eat at many Sushi restaurants, including San Francisco and Japan. Not only is Tokyo Grill the best in Grand Rapids, in my opinion one of the best in the world. The Ginger dressing on the chilled salad is outstanding and should be sold next to Paul Newman’s dressing. I don’t know where Shaun gets his salmon, but it always fresh and outstanding. I don’t have a favorite roll, because now I just say surprise me. Just tell them what you are thinking. If you want a warmer dish, then their Hibachi is always outstanding and the vegetables are cooked… just right!

Their shrimp tempura roll was ok but their salmon skin roll was bad it had raw white onions to make up for lack of crispy salmon skin…(came with only 2 ingredients a lot of raw white onion and salmon skin you couldn’t taste because of onion) Rolls(maki) are cheap but small maybe 5 pieces so like dollar a piece disappointing and bad salmon skin roll

Love the ambiance. Feels really clean and comforting. The servers are all welcoming and smiley. Food comes out after 10 – 15 minutes and the quality/portions are incredible. I will definitely be coming back.

This is my favorite Japanese place. After trying countless restaurants, none have surpassed tokyo grill in overall quality and taste. They have the best sushi rice and salad dressing, bar none. Go for the chicken hibachi or chirashi, you won’t regret it.

This place is pretty legit. My husband and I wanted a booth but when we were prompted to «seat ourselves» all 6 of the empty booths still needed to be cleared. The pricing is pretty standard for sushi and entrees. We had dumplings, Miso soup and a variety of sushi. The dumplings were good, the miso soup was good, not the best, but good. The sushi was definitely a 3.5 stars out of 5. Presentation of the rolls was ok, and they seemed to be rolled a little loose. Overall the flavor was good but not great. I would come back here again if my other Sushi place is at capacity. I should add that the service was really good and attentive.

This is absolutely the best sushi Ive had in Michigan. Absolutely incredible every time. Wonderful fish, great atmosphere, and very knowledgable staff. I’ve been disappointed by other, even more expensive places in the area repeatedly. Tokyo Grill is very fair in their menu pricing, and diverse in the types of seafood available. If the server Fi is ever working definitely request him. We let him order the majority of our meal for a dinner of four, and couldn’t have been happier. One of the best!

I love this place. It’s a hidden gem and at first glance you may think you have arrived at the wrong spot. I have never ordered anything from this place that I haven’t liked. The reason I am not giving them 5 starts is because the wait staff has a hard time understanding… My daughter got a full dinner instead of a kids meal due to this misunderstanding… Needless to say, I had to pay $ 15 for my kid to pick at a piece of chicken.

This spot is a hidden gem, nestled off of Breton rd, in a small strip mall. I would have never tried it, if it weren’t for the rave reviews! My boyfriend is not a big Japanese food fan, but this place pleasantly surprised him. It was clean, nice ambiance, and a lot larger than it appears. It is a nice traditional Japanese restaurant, specifically for date nights or adult entertaining. My boyfriend ordered the steak and shrimp habachi plate and I ordered the Toro, Eel, and yellow tail sushi. He got a nice salad with his dinner, and we ordered the calamari and fried oysters for an appetizer. The food was all very beautifully plated and came fairly quickly to the table. The flavors were excellent! Probably the best oysters and calamari I’ve had(and I’ve had a lot). The onion dressing was delicious. Our server was very friendly and quite good at serving. We didn’t go without refills and our dishes were promptly removed as we finished. He had no issues explaining the dishes, either. They are actually quite a bit cheaper than most sushi bars in the greater grand rapids area(Marodo, Xen, Osaka, Fujiyama, etc.). I would only change the fact that I paid $ 13.00 for two pieces of Toro(fatty tuna). The price was not on the menu, but I was shocked to see the price. The other prices were very reasonable, so this will not change my feeling about the restaurant. Bonus* You can actually purchase their salad dressing to take home!

Good food! Very typical sushi place. Not overly amazed but definitely satisfied. My tempura roll was overloaded with tempura flakes and honestly I was trying to politely knock some off just to taste the sushi. :-(

I’m updating my review for my dine-in experience the other day. I stopped in around 3:30pm on a weekday and there was only one other party there. Service was quick, which is what I was hoping for. I got miso soup and 3 basic maki. The flavors were still very subtle(too subtle for my taste), and the rolls are pretty small. I saw on the menu that you can make any roll spicy for an extra 75 cents each. I’m not cheap, but I think that’s silly. I always want all my rolls to be spicy. The fish was fresh, and the flavors of the rolls were all balanced well, it just was kind of… boring.

The food tastes very yummy! Very good! I have already tried many Japanese restaurants in Chicago area. It’s better than most of the expensive ones I have visited before.

Tokyo Grill is by far my favorite place for sushi in the Grand Rapids area. Other sushi restaurants cannot beat the combination of their food quality, taste, portion size, service, presentation, and price. When you walk into Tokyo Grill, you’re always welcomed by the chefs(they even thank you for coming as you leave the restaurant). The décor is great and they even have two tatami areas(reservation required). I appreciate that the server welcomes you with a warm towel when your party is seated. They also give you an orange at the end that is usually pretty sweet. I’ve been to Tokyo Grill numerous times and haven’t been disappointed with my order. Their tempura is amazing! It’s really crispy compared to other restaurants that normally use a smooth batter. I also like that the Shrimp and Chicken Tempura orders comes with vegetables which includes my favorite, sweet potato! I usually order Cleo’s Maki(Spicy Tuna roll with Tempurako on top) and Noodle Soup(smaller portion of Udon) for lunch. If I’m really hungry and want leftovers, I’ll order the Beef Hibachi(they always serve good quality beef), Cleo’s Maki and Chicken Tempura for dinner. Hibachi orders do come with a salad. The server will ask if you want ginger or onion dressing. You can’t go wrong with either of them but my personal favorite is onion dressing. Sometimes I order a pint of onion dressing to take home because it’s too good to resist. My other favorite dishes at Tokyo Grill include Agedashi Tofu, Udon Noodles, Yaki Udon, Celebration Maki, Cobra Maki, Greg’s Maki, Tokyo Grill Maki, Volcano Maki, and Red Bean and Green Tea Ice Cream.

My fiancé and I usually have«Sushi Saturdays» at Tokyo Grill. We love it here! Our typical order: soup, salad, sushi combo b along with a speciality maki roll. Its the perfect amount for us. Every time. Some of our favorite speciality rolls are the Norma and Princess. Oh and I highly recommend the onion salad dressing –it’s awesome! They are always super busy, but have a lot tables and we have never had to wait… Service is always on par. It’s not uncommon to see servers running(literally) from table to table. If you are looking for great sushi and service, check out Tokyo Grill! I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!

By far one of my favorite sushi places I’ve been to. The sushi is fresh and delicious, and the hibachi meals are also extremely good. The sushi rolls menu is simple, but everything is really well done. Try the homemade dressings! You can also buy and take them home with you. Sean, the owner, is incredible. Really committed to quality and values his customers. He also is at the bar making sushi a lot of times, so really in tune with what’s going on. I look forward to eating here every time I’m home.

We visit this place a few times each year, even though it means a drive across town for us. The sushi is, quite simply, the best in town. Like most sushi restaurants, a bit pricey, but in this case, completely worth it. We’ve had so many different rolls here and they are always so fresh! The Miso soup is one of the best I’ve ever had. My favorites include the shrimp tempura, california roll and any of the featured rolls that have something spicy in it!

Came here with my boyfriend on a weeknight and was surprised how many people were there, especially for the location. It’s located in dark a half empty shopping complex so we were a bit sceptical at first but once you step in its like entering a large but still homey sushi restaurant. When we sat down they brought out hot towels for our hands which was very nice and refreshing. I got the house sake to warm up from the below zero temperatures of Michigan winter and asked the waitress for suggestions. I ended up getting the Dragon(I absolutely love unagi) and the Cali-shrimp maki, boyfriend got the beef hibachi sushi combo. The Cali — shrimp maki was exactly a Cali roll with shrimp — should have tried something different next time since boyfriends combo dinner came with Cali rolls. The dragon roll was so good! It had lots of eel and fresh ingredients in the filing. Boyfriend very much enjoyed the dinner combo which included a salad, hibachi beef and veggies(mushroom, zucchini, onions), rice, ginger sauce, nigiri(salmon, tuna, shrimp) and 6 pieces in the Cali roll. The fish was very fresh, definately want to try their sashimi next time. People around us were having the dinners which looked really yummy too… We will be coming back!
