I love this place! GREAT produce, bulk candy & nuts and their fresh Brats are out of this world! I now live in Lansing and can not get the Brats here anywhere(jalapeño cheddar, mushroom & swiss, bacon & cheddar. It’s a long drive, but I love them too much to pass up!

This place is so small town store I love it. Went in one day and the hummus I always get was gone, I asked about it and the manager apologized and suggested another one. When I came in the next time the young man remembered me and pointed out he now had my humus in stock. Plus the meat counter is amazing!

I enjoy going to Ken’s on Plainfield. They have a good selection of produce. The store is not too large and I like that feeling when shopping there. I have purchased some of their meats from their full service meat department and have been happy with the quality and selection. The outside bedding plant area has even very good but was curtailed this year by GR Township. I hope they work something out soon or Ken’s will be moving out of the township. I enjoy the employees there who are friendly and very helpful. Especially Al, who runs the plantings part of the store. A nice addition to the Plainfield corridor!

We’ve recently discovered Ken’s Fruit Market on Plainfield Av. in Grand Rapids… Wow, what a refreshing alternative to the big chain grocers in the Grand Rapids area who generally only carry national brands at expensive prices. The quality and freshness of the produce at Ken’s was fantastic. We bought apples for $ 1.99/lb that actually tasted good and didn’t turn brown and soft a few days after we got them home. For our Christmas meal we purchased a 6 rib(15 lb) prime rib roast for $ 7.75/lb, which was one of the best and tastiest rib roasts we’ve ever made. Also, we bought some ground beef and were pleasantly surprised that it was not injected full of water to increase the weight like ground beef found at other area groceries. Ken’s doesn’t carry everything the big stores do, but their selection of «local» products, quality, prices, and personal service can’t be beat. Plus, you can park close to the door and get in and out quickly. Value, quality, and local products! We’ll be regular shoppers at Ken’s from now on.

Great little store, many different items & decent prices. Long lines at the meat counter are a good sign. I just wandered through & found a few interesting treats for my nieces & nephews & for my treat jar at work. The bulk candy is awesome. A crazy wide variety of items, candy I haven’t seen in years and fun stuff to! Check it out everyone!

I understand the appeal of going to a non chain grocery store. It was much easier to get in and out quickly and it is nice to support local business… I run out at that point. Obviously the business is new but the location is not. That being said it looks like this place has been here so long it needs a renovation and that’s not a good sign so soon after you open. The flooring is old so no matter how clean they are they look really dirty. They have a wall of Faygo and a ton of candy and other bulk items. The part that was huge bummer was when we got home and tried to eat the food. The corn had mold, the cucumbers had large holes inside them and the black berries were well past their prime. I can over look the black berries because if I had looked closer I would have noticed they were too old. The others looked fine in store until I opened them up. Bad news since those were the only fruits and veggies we got.

Great place to stop in and get some quality goods without having to face the maddening crowds and acres of parking at the mothership hypermarket up the street. Good meat counter and decent produce selection, both locally sourced when possible/in season. It won’t likely replace your regular grocery haul-they don’t have any HBC or stuff like that, but it’s great for getting what you need to get through the day. You should shop here every chance you get. We need locally owned places like this to thrive. The better they do the more of them there will be, which is a plus for everyone in the neighborhood.

Just opened and getting organized. This is the same owners as the Alger Heights market. Great addition to NMorthtown.
