Damn, sucks to be this business! They’ve already got a 2 star average without my help. Oh well, places like this deserve to go out of business, so I’ll add my own nail to the coffin. I saw the terrible reviews prior to going, but I had just moved to Grand Prairie and was desperate! But yeah, please trust me: definitely don’t bother coming to this creepy place. It’s soooo gross, like they storebought everything from Walmart 2 months ago and are trying to pass it all off as being made by them. Seriously. Dried, stale, and weird-flavored are the three descriptors that come to mind about the sampling of baked goods I bought. Service was both indifferent and brusque… and oddly creepy? If you no longer find joy in your business, just sell it! Make room for good bakeries in GP because you’re definitely not one of them.

If I could give no stars I would this place has such bad service I would show a picture of the cake but the lady that owns the place decided she was gonna alter the way she makes cakes for no one hmm that’s some crackerjack customer service. I asked for a 2 tier birthday cake made of either whipped icing or better cream not buttercream which is not so sweet. She told me no she’s not make one cake that way when she has multiple orders to make with the sweeter cream and if I wanted a cake like that to go to Walmart ok message received. To bad for her I needs about 20 of them but it’s al good I will never go back to a place that doesn’t at-least try to make the customer happy instead of showing them the door very rudely. This place flat out sucks.

Went in to inquire on a cake for my daughters birthday(had used Barbaras last year and she did a great job on a cake –beautiful, elaborate, castle shaped, $ 50) and walked out after speaking to Barbara. First she told me an 8 inch circle cake would cost me $ 75. and yes, was a little suprised since I wasn’t asking anything as elaborate as last year, but it wasn’t even the cost of the cake that got to me, it was her lack of customer service skills that made me walk away. I can handle many things, but someone who is rude, I cannot. She asked me if that was what I was looking at spending and I told her«no, not exactly» and her response was that I have to pay for her services and that sometimes she has to turn away business because she is so busy and that she just did a big order for Channel 8, MaryKay, etc., and that she’s sorry her cost are like that but she takes her work seriously and then she said«actually I’m not sorry, those are my cost». Her entire attitude was very arrogant and she was more impressed with WHO she had done business with and all her awards, then trying to get more business. At this point, I just turned around and walked out… I’ll pay $ 75 for an 8 inch cake to a bakery that doesn’t treat me as though I am not good enough for their business and who will treat me with respect.

A family friend bought a white cake from here, and it was quite good. The next time, she bought some cake balls, and not so great. I think they were overly sweet, and more so on the mushy side compared to other cake balls I’ve tried from other bakeries. But maybe this is more so a personal preference. Their white chocolate coating tastes kind of off to me. I just didn’t like it very much. I want to, but I just can’t. Maybe I’ll just stick to their white cake.

What if the man/woman of your dreams lived within 10 miles of you for 15 years, but you didn’t know they existed? You went to the same bars and worked in the same building, but you passed each other by without every meeting. But then… A sudden rainstorm appears, and both of you, without umbrellas, duck under a nearby awning, waiting for the rain to slacken enough to go on. No one else is around and the store with the now convenient awning is closed for the day. Just the two of you. One of you smiles nervously, the other smiles back, then looks away. Both stare at the unrelenting downpour and knowing they will be in each other’s company for as yet undetermined amount of time, one of them speaks to the other. Just a polite comment about the unexpected rain receives a short acknowledgement. Thinking a more civilized reply is necessary, a question is asked and answered quickly. General comments are made and then gradually the talk turns to more personal matters. «Do you work around here?» «Do you live in the area?» More eye contact is made. The faces are starting to be less blurred in each other’s vision. The edges are defining as the talk becomes more focused. Attractive qualities are duly noted. Laughter begins. Do you think you know where this is going? Yessiree, they’re falling love. And all because of a sudden rainstorm and a nearby awning. So what does this have to do with Barbara’ Cake and Cookie Boutique? I’ve fallen in love. And like our friend above, I never knew that my heart’s desire has been waiting in this one-time burger joint during bakery for 15 years, just waiting for me to find it. Only ten short miles from my doorstep. O cruel fate! Sure the outside looks like a old-style burger box, but its the inside that matters. In this case, the heart of the operation is Barbara the friendly owner, who is so cheerful and bubbly she’ll steal your heart away like one of those animated Disney characters.(I’m thinking Cinderella’s fairy god-mother). It is almost impossible to choose from all the cookies, candies, cakes and pies sitting in her display cases. That’s why my wife and I had to take home a sampling of about a dozen items. There’s an orange-cranberry loaf cake that’s moist and sweet,(very orange colored) that was only $ 6.00. The pies were about $ 10 each and did they ever look good. We got some brownies dipped in milk chocolate, yes, I said«dipped in milk chocolate», and some chocolate chip cookies, also dipped in milk chocolate. After eating these goodies, once we got home to our cold milk supply, my wife says she understands why the owner is so cheerful and happy. Because she’s on a permanent sugar rush! I would continue this review, but I’m going to have to bounce off a few walls to settle down first. But don’t let me keep you from finding your own«lost love». That is, if you’re a sweet-a-holic like me.
