I have been going here for approximately a year now and never have been disappointed with my haircut. From the pleasant woman who answers the phone at the front desk to the Staff and students, they always are friendly and helpful. The student barbers I’ve come across have always taken pride in their work. Barber Angel in particular gives great haircuts, always is professional, and I can honesty say had never dissappointed me. Professionalism and pride in ones work is always respected !

I decided to give this place a try for their hair services. Let me start by saying I had blonde hair and left with brown. when all I had asked was for her to take out the golden tone of my hair so I don’t know where she heard I wanted my hair brown? So my advice is for you to be very specific in what you want done to your hair even if you feel like you’re giving too much detail trust me they need to know EXACTLY what you want. I gave three stars cause the brown she left me with was not bad but still not what I wanted at all, now I have to start over for my blonde hair again.

When my sister was going here, I started coming all the time as a client. She graduated, but I still came on a regular basis to have my hair done. I love it so much, I decided to enroll as a student. It’s a really comfortable environment compared to the other schools I had toured, and everyone is very welcoming. From the lady at the front desk to the admissions lady to the teachers, everyone is helpful and friendly. I’m excited to be a part of the school, and to be working on achieving my career goals.

I came to Newberry for a haircut and blow dry. Very pleased. The staff was helpful, the students were friendly. The girl at the front desk was nice, pleasant and smiling. Excellent service from being to end ! Will definitely be returning ! Thanks Newberry !

If you go here, you can either have a great haircut or bad. It truly depends on the student/person who is cutting your hair.

To start, the lady at the front desk is extremely friendly and so so helpful She suited me with a student that accommodated my needs and I’m always pleased to see her when I come in. My haircut was extremely well done. The student that cut my hair was well composed and very talented. I’ve never had a better cut in my life and it was definitely the best salon experience I’ve had. One concern I have is the God awful lighting. But besides that everything is beyond great. I will definitely be returning for my hair to be cut and recommend this school to my friends.

Absolutely horrible! I understand that these are students and they are training, however how do you not know how to do basic curls and a braid? It’s not rocket science! I was here for over 2.5 hours and the girl had absolutely no idea what she was doing and had to ask 2 other ppl to come help her. For $ 25 I expected something decent. It was mediocre at best. Their prices are high for the quality of service. They should not be charging this much when the students don’t know how to do basic things. Especially having to sit there for so long and just be frustrated with the end results. Never will go back and I advise others not to as well.

whatever you do don’t go here for school!!! They use their students as slaves to get money of of you. They don’t teach you anything thing you sit around all day and wait to take appointments sometimes five a day just so the school your paying to attend can make money off of you!!! i went to the esti program here they even have small black bugs in the spa! i ended up switching to marienello in Burbank which is THEBEST! the staff is negative at newberry, MS. ANGELATOLD me i would have a hard time in the skin industry because I’m black !! the only teacher that i must say is ok the now with red hair i forgot her name but she’s to sweet to be working there, if she still does they switch the staff and teachers so often.

This is a review of the spa only. Im giving 4 stars because although the services were super I waited 15 min to be noticed even with an appointment

The services has improved. And, despite some bad days, I keep coming back because of several reason. It’s my neighborhood spot. The prices are great. And, people come & go, just like good days & bad days. Overall lots of different students all the time, which is a good sign.

This place is a school but they are horrible. I have very curly frizzy and thick hair and I specifically told them going to a party and need someone who KNOWSHOWTOBLOWDRYCURLYHAIR. I get there and the asshole at the front desk says«oh don’t worry I KNOW she can do it, she’s amazing with your kind of hair» almost sarcastically. I let it slide. Hmm I wonder why she sounding almost giddy after saying that? BECAUSETHIAGIRLHADNEVERBLOWNOUTCURLYHAIREVER. INHERLIFE. She had naturally straight hair and I actually had to tell her how to do it, but she didn’t listen. Then the teacher and other BETTER student came over and told her how to do it. SHEDIDNTLISTEN. I paid $ 20 and my hair looks like after a character gets electrocuted in a cartoon. I had to decline the party invite I was getting my hair done for and now I’m going to spend 2hours trying to fix this rats nest they left me with. I understand these are students, but I went in with my mother and her girl actually knew what she was doing. When I warn them about my massive long curly hair I’m not doing it for my sake. I do it so I don’t embarrass some girl who has no idea how to deal with my type of hair so she looks like an idiot in front of all of her friends. So to sum up my complaint. The front desk girl with the different blue and purple colored hair enjoys ruining people hair on purpose and takes pleasure out of seeing her fellow students embarrassingly try to do hair every can clearly see that they won’t be able to. It’s 12:50 now. I HAD a party to go to at 1pm but I now have to jump in the show again and see what I can do to attempt to fix this mess.

Although the students are nice the services are just not worth it. My nails were so ugly and the choices appear to be from the 80s. I would rather pay full price and tip nicely for a great job than to feel sorry about the staff for the terrible job they did and still have to tip because of how discouraged their face looks. Unfortunately you never know what u are going to get with schools. Besides the person at the desk is not in any way welcoming. Save yourself the trouble.

Got a great haircut for cheap. Stephanie was very friendly and in the end the teacher can by to help her with anything she was unsure about. And I have a lot of hair so it can take quiet a while. Happy to have my split ends gone. Would definitely come back. Want to check out the facials and esthetician program.

This is a review based on being a potential student of the esthetician program, not a client of the salon. I decided to tour this school because i have a friend who used to always get her eyebrows done here when she lived in the valley. When i arrived there was tons of parking, the facilities was pretty big and immaculately clean. The admissions lady was very kind, answered all my questions, and showed a great interest in where i lived and what i was looking forward to doing as a career. The facial rooms were calming, quiet, and had private rooms for each of the clients. If it wasn’t for the long commute from my house to the school i would have definitely attended!

Went in today to get rid of my ombré and go back to my natural color. I made an appt at 11:30am and was not seen until 45 minutes later! WITH an appointment. My ombré was extremely subtle and only about 4 inches needed to be colored but they charged me $ 49! Very expensive for being done by students. They attempted to explain to me that $ 20 was added because of the length of my hair. My hair is not down to the floor. Come on. Also before I left, I noticed a block of lighter ombré on the front of my face and subtly inquired/complained about it. An instructor looked at my hair & tried to convince me(unsuccessfully and rudely) that it looked fine. Really now? A block of random blonde hair on black hair. How about some good customer service? I will NEVER be coming back here for any hair service.

Be cautious– there is a possibility of getting your hair ruined if bleached.

About 15 years ago I used to go to Newberry School of Beauty for facials and haircuts, and I was always pleased. As you may know I reviewed Marinellos School in Burbank a month or so ago and am unhappy with them. I decided to go to Newberry’s after that and give them another try, even though the commute is now a little too long for me. In particular, I was intrigued with the FREEHAIRCUTONYOURBIRTHDAY special. If you look at their price list, this is about $ 6 usually. It doesn’t mean you don’t tip or pay for say a shampoo, set, or blow dry as part of your beauty treatment that day. First, I called to ask if you NEEDANAPPOINTMENT for the birthday cut. I was told no, but I was also asked if I was a new customer because this is ONLY for a new customer. I honestly explained that it had to have been about 15 years ago. Leave it to me to be honest. This caused concern that I would not be qualified as a new customer. The student said she would have to ask an instructor who was busy. I called back a couple hours later and spoke to another instructor who said no problem, come in but the feeling was that someone was making an issue. So I did the commute and when I got there I was taken in very quickly even without the appointment. The student was pleasant enough, and at least she knew what an inch was(one student at Marinello hadn’t and hacked 4 inches off as one inch!) but ANDTHISISONEOFTHEREASONS I GOTOBEAUTYSCHOOLS she spent as little time as possible on my hair. She didn’t ask me if I wanted it shampooed or conditioned. She didn’t even wet my hair. She didn’t put it into sections to cut it. She simply went one two three with the scissors. And she didn’t take a mirror and show me what it looked like at the back of my head. No instructor came to see what she was doing or how it turned out. Now I could have DEMANDED these things, but when it came time to tip I clutched. If she had done these things, made just a little more fuss or taken just another 10MINUTES to shampoo, condition, cut, give a quick dry(I don’t mean a whole blow out) and fussed a little with her fingers to plump it up, I probably would have tipped the entire cost of the cut and more. If and when I go back, I’ll update this post!
