I’m serious about my travel via tacos and Taqueria Valparaiso is in my top 3. Or even at the top, why not?! Between my husband and I, we had asada, pollo, carnitas and pastor. Each had a definite preparation that set it apart, and the tortillas were handmade. I loved the tender roasted chicken(so often it’s tasteless!?), unique salsas, the roasted jalapeño on each plate, but the show stopper was the Al Pastor. Wow. And this place is CHEAP and run by a mom and daughter. Buen hecho!

Review based on the benchmark of 1 Carne Asada and 1 Pastor taco, both with everything. All in all the tacos are good, literally OK… not A-OK. If you take into the very reasonable prices this place is a value. Then again this place is truly a hole in the wall. If there were dirt streets and 100 plus degree heat you would swear you were in Mexico. *No Juke Box(Thank You) or radio. If you are in the area via the 101 or doing some wine tasting off River Road this is a great pit spot. Just keep in mind this is not a service oriented spot. You order, you get your food, you eat and if you need anything you must ask. Kinda like when you were a kid and had to raise your hand.

Hidden gem. I would rate this place better than most Mexican places in San Diego and SoCal. You can experience authentic home cooked Mexican food. We really enjoyed the shrimp in sauce with flour tortilla. Pastor tacos are really good too.

This place is the best. Small, authentic, reasonable price, friendly, eat in or to-go. Best pastor I have ever had.

Excellent food. Took a while to prepare but tasted really good. Corn tortillas were freshly made. Definitely will try to come here when traveling this way.

We stopped here on a road tip and fully enjoyed our food and experience. What a great value and the homemade tortillas are perfect. The price is right so you might as well give it a try. I tend not to eat too much meat, and there weren’t tons of veggie options, but I left happy.

Without a doubt the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. I know people like to exaggerate, but I’ve eaten here literally hundreds of times… that’s 15+ years of eating here and I’ve never had one bad experience. The staff is awesome, very limited English but hey its a Mexican restaurant what do you expect? I suggest the bisteak ranchero. It’s awesome. Also they have a special for $ 2.99 that includes 3 pastor tacos with rice and beans, can’t beat it anywhere. In conclusion it’s a bit small but I always get my orders to go so it doesn’t effect me.
