Hiding in the nooks of Goldsboro but it’s a great place to have home style country food.

Christine and I were on a job in the area. Whenever were in an extended area we like trying local foods. we were not disappointed on anything except for the sausage and the grits. I’m a good old southern boy that likes my grits cooked with some fat some butter and salt and pepper you can see that they did a straight water base cook. I guess they have to do to the various types of clientele but they had plenty of other things on the table for me to add for some season including some nice Tabasco. Cup of coffee was never empty staff was pleasant would definitely go back

I utilized the super hospitable services of Country Skillet when an office in Pikeville requested I use them for catering their lunch. I had never heard of Country Skillet but it sure sounded like a ton of yumminess! I called and spoke with Crystal, informed her of my budget and told her where the lunch was going and she quickly knew exactly what would work out. She grabbed my card to keep on file for future lunches and told me not to worry, it would be delivered on time, hot and fresh! Today was the lunch and when the delivery rolled up, I could smell the fried chicken coming from the truck! It smelled so yummy, like I was in my grandma’s kitchen 20 years ago when it seemed she took all day to fry a load of chicken. Doyce, the owner, came inside with the food, introduced himself to me and told me all about how he got into the business and said that catering to various doctor’s offices is what he loves best! He set everything up which included fried chicken of course, mashed potatoes, green beans, a roll, and brownies for dessert. It also came with sweet and unsweet tea, ice, plates, cups and napkins. I literally did nothing to prepare for this lunch. It was awesome! The staff loved the food and of course, I did too! It’s nice to break up the monotony of a Monday with hot, yummy, food! I cannot wait until Country Skillet and I meet again!

The food was ok and decent for the price.(we had a coupon). Coffee was ok and the juices were a little pricey for the size they served Service was great, our waitress came by constantly to check on us and was very helpful with food suggestions. We chose to come here versus IHOP because we wanted a change in the scene and it was very quaint and quiet versus the noisy crowd on Sundays. I would come here again, the food definitely had more of a «homestyle» feel than IHOP even though I like going there as well but in a different location — not Goldsboro or Jacksonville.

Well Veronica, thankfully the IHOP in Goldsboro is now open! This place definitely caters to an older crowd that has lost their sense of taste as well as most of their teeth. My partner and I had pancakes, eggs, sausage(from the local pork products producer), grits, and a hashbrown casserole. ALL of the food required a liberal dose of salt and pepper, and even then it was just very bland. I was excited about trying some local pork, so I ordered link sausage, but when it arrived, then ends were bursting out of the casing and very dry. I can only assume this was due to being deep fried. I can’t even identify what went into the hashbrown casserole besides shredded potato, it was just that odd. When I return to Goldsboro I won’t be returning here.

For around this town this compares to Cracker Barrell. The serves and even owner know me by name since I go so often. They have the best country food around and very low prices. The staff is always really great as well. Just make sure you get there early on Saturday because they get busy. The prices are great for a local diner and they take cash and credit/debit cards. They serve breakfast all day and have daily specials ranging from baked spaghetti to country fried chicken. They also offer catering services as well. Cons: They are only open til 2pm M-Saturday, and Sunday they aren’t open. I recommend: hashbrown casserole, chicken fried steak, and field peas.

When my mom’s friend said she was going to take us out to breakfast on our visit to Goldsboro, I was, for some reason, praying for an IHOP. We passed the first IHOP currently under construction on our way to this place. The Country Skillet was a pretty good substitute for what I already had my mind set on. The place was packed and every table stayed full and I understand why. The servers were really nice and friendly as they took our orders and made sure we had all of our little«extras» taken care of. I also noticed that the three people at the table drinking coffee never had empty cups. I really enjoyed my food, but the plates were too small to hold it all. The pancakes were a little greasy, but they were still really good. The eggs and the bacon were cooked just right. The only thing is that the grits were a little bland. They were perfectly creamy and OK after I dumped some salt on them though. I will definitely stop back in here next time I am in town.
