Let me begin with saying that the service was good but food was EXCELLENT. I’m normally a bit skeptical going to a restaurant that serves both sushi and Thai but Maki Sushi surpassed my expectations. My group ordered a few sushi dishes and a few Thai dishes so we could have a taste of both cuisines. I was astonished that I couldn’t find a flaw in either. The sushi was fresh, clean, and well presented. As for the Thai, we ordered both the drunken noodle and the green curry, both were exceptional and full of flavor. The prices were outstanding and the serving sizes were generous. This will be a regular stop for us and a great addition for the Golden area.

Some of the best sushi I have ever had. And great prices. This is the first time I have ever written a review on Unilocal and I felt like it was necessary. They are a new place that deserves the business. Sushi and Thai food are both my favorites and they do well with both. Try the drunken noodles. And the spicy salmon roll.

This is a very good sushi restaurant. The sushi I had — maguro, unagi, salmon and a delicious spicy roll — with a tall Kirin cost $ 28 and it was a great meal, beautifully presented. I’ll definitely go back, as a Golden resident but being recently from the SF Bay Area where the sushi is as good as it gets this place will do just fine. It’s a very nice setting also, upscale and needs no improvement. Immaculately clean and great friendly attentive service. I look forward to another meal there soon to try more varieties of sushi and explore their extensive roll menu choices.

A friend recommended I try the Volcano roll and boy were they right! Fresh, and the rice was sticky and held together beautifully. Also try the cucumber salad! Yum!

We are big sushi fans, and this place did not disappoint. We ordered 4 specialty rolls and some sashimi, and we couldn’t even pick a favorite. Wait staff was attentive and the prices are very reasonable.

My husband I went here last night for the first time. We normally go to sushi den in Denver to get sushi but wanted to try somewhere new. This place completely exceeded our expectations. The service was amazing and fast and the sushi was incredible. I can’t wait to go back! We got the edemame and pork dumplings as an appetizer and the rainbow roll, Alaskan roll and golden crunch roll as dinner. Soooo good!!!

Thai coconut soup was the best I’ve ever had. Good spicy rolls. Great addition to downtown golden. We will be going back soon!

It’s okay but good for Golden. I’m not sure why they do a spicy tuna roll that looks pulverized. It’s good, but the texture freaks me out. Why not just pile on some wasabi or jalapeño and use an actual cut of fish? Also all the speciality rolls are tempura-based. Too gringo for me. Makes me think a lot of folks haven’t had really good sushi before. Wish it was Izakaya Den or Sushi Den or Sushi Sasa. Then, I would gladly go there weekly.

First time visit based on reviews and happy hour. Met with couple that owns restaurant. They gave a happy hour discount after we were told weekends excluded. All food, ambiance and service at 5 star level. Would return.

So far so good! The wontons were perfectly made, the miso soup came out almost instantly, and the sushi is great! The volcano roll is the only thing that isn’t amazing. It tastes like it’s just drenched in sriracha, which isn’t what a volcano roll should taste like. Other than that, it’s very good. I’ll definitely be coming back! Edit: if you wipe the layer of sriracha off the top of the volcano roll, it becomes actually REALLY good! 5 stars for sure. It’s about time we get a really great sushi restaurant on this side of Golden.

We decided we wanted sushi for lunch and found that this one just opened. It was close to home and we were feeling adventurous. Its a13:00 on a Sunday and the service was awesome. Our waitress was so sweet personable. The food was awesome. The unagi and the albacore were incredibly good. The spider roll was terrific. Green tea was pretty great. I wasnt too impressed by the valcano roll. Once you took off the layer is sriracha, it was actually very good. I’m excited that there is a sushi restaurant that is within walking distance of my house that is really good.

We had cucumber salad that was okay. we also had the seafood salad, that was drowning in mayo a little spicey with limp lettuce, not very good. Miso soup was very generic and basic. The shumai was the type I buy at the asian market and heat it up myself, that was very disappointing. BUT it got much better, we ordered some sashimi and rolls, that came out on the«boat» and those were very good, sashimi was fresh and nicely presented, and we enjoyed our rolls. so next time I will go straight for the sushi.

Oh how we’ve been waiting and praying for a sushi restaurant in Downtown Golden. And now it’s here. And I’m here. And thankfully it’s excellent! First of all, the staff is great. Welcoming and helpful with suggestions. We got a few standards — salmon, spicy tuna, rainbow roll, etc. All excellent. Wonderful presentation too. Notable things were enjoyed: the«spicy girl». Perfect. Not usually into spicy stuff, but this is more«seasoned» than just burn your pants off spicy. Highly recommend. Also, they have 3 varieties of unfiltered nigori sake chilled. Yum yum! Highly recommend! Enjoy!

Okay, what am I doing going for Japanese in a town like Golden? Simple, we were hungry and all the better known places were mobbed. So we settled. SURPRISE! This place is really good. The food is fresh and plentiful. The presentation was fine. Recommend the salmon tartare and the cucumber salad. Also very good one of the bento box options.
