This place only sells fish on Friday. They completely refused to make my child a grilled cheese sand which. She’s 2 years old and is a picky eater. I left the restaurant and they could give a shit. They obviously have bread and cheese in the back and completely refused to accommodate us. I will never go back and hope others would think twice about going here. The employees were standing around eating. Don’t you have a place where your employees can eat where their customers don’t have to watch them shoving food in their mouths and then serving food.

Our group of retired Steel Workers meet here monthly for a Breakfast and to Shoot the Bull. Always great service, and the food is good. Seating could be a little better, the tables never match up when placed together making for somewhat cramped quarters.

Holy Lord help this place! God awful. Please save yourself and do not go here. The waitress was racist and very disrespectful. The eggs were cold and wet and hard. I threw up everything I ate after I got outside the restaurant. Would not go here again.

I’m a guy who loves breakfast. In particular, I’m a skillet aficionado. The corned beef(not hash) skillet here is among the finest skillets I’ve ever had. The service is also really top notch. I’ve been here 3 times and I’ve never had a cup of coffee be less than half full

I only see this place once a year on my way to get fireworks and it always looks busy. This year, I decided to stop in and grab breakfast on my way. So happy I did. I got a sausage omelette with hashbrowns and a side of pancakes. I have never had an omelette this good. I’m not joking-it was so creamy and fluffy. Huge portion, too. The hashbrowns were equally good, with some kind of seasoning or flavor that I couldn’t put my finger on. Yum. The pancakes weren’t as light and fluffy as I’d have liked them to be, but they tasted just fine. Overall, this place is a great breakfast/brunch spot. I got here at around 8:30am and it was already busy. By 9:30, it was packed. At one point, the line went out the door. I recommend getting here early to avoid waiting, but it’s definitely worth it should you have to.

The single best greek-style breakfast/lunch place in maybe all of the south burbs. Simple small menu(it’s your placemat), very heavy on breakfast stuff, but this place does tremendous business and has extremely friendly waiters/waitresses. I’ve probably been here two dozen times and I always leave feeling warm and fuzzy inside. And not just from overeating — it’s a local place full of townies, and the friendliness stays with me. As does the rice pudding. Mmmmm.

I think I’m in the minority(double entendre…*LOL*) but I received absolutely the worst service here. I was in the area randomly and did a quick search on brunch spots in Glenwood and Gabe’s Place came up. I was feeling adventurous and the reviews were mostly positive so I decided to check it out. As I walked in two waitresses walked by and didn’t even crack a smile or look my way. The hostess came up ten seconds later and barely acknowledged my solo presence and instead had a busman(don’t want to call him a boy since he’s a middle aged adult) direct me to a table. He didn’t seem comfortable directing me either but wound up being one of the two folks who treated me ok. The other was a lady(who I wished was my actual server) who asked me what I wanted to drink and greeted me with a sincere smile as I gave her my grapefruit order. As I looked around I couldn’t help but notice aside from the two people that were nice to me, I was the only minority in the restaurant. I began to wonder if that played a role in my abysmal service but I see Jose R. and De’Anna W had better experiences so maybe that wasn’t it(then again they could’ve had a different server too). It was interesting to read Matt H. and Nuala M. reviews and how they believe it’s because they’re not seniors that they get horrible service. Seeing that they’ve had multiple check-ins, I’m inclined to believe that may have been the case for my bad experience. My server started off by rushing me to order. The first time I pushed back and said I needed a few minutes. Not even two minutes later she came back again…*LOL*. The Chorizo crepes caught my eye so I asked her how the eggs were done on those. She told me scrambled and I put my order in. The lady who asked me for my drink came back with a pitcher of water and again was all smiles when leaving it. If she were my server, I would’ve given three stars at minimum. The only reason I gave Gabe’s Place two stars instead of the one star I really wanted to give is because the food portions are pretty generous. My server did ask me at least if I needed hot sauce or anything else. I told her yes and got it within a minute. That was the only decent service she provided. She didn’t do the customary ‘is everything ok’ till after I was almost done. Then she said she would get my check. But she seemingly disappeared instead. By then the area I was sitting at was clearing out. Interestingly the hostess came in my area directing a senior to a table though she wanted to sit at the table near where I was. But the hostess told her they were clearing that area(It was around 2pm… they close at 3pm). At that point(which was around 10 minutes after my server promised a check) I scanned the area for her. I didn’t see her but the busman was nearby and I asked him to find my server for the check. He came back and said she’d be around in a minute and was somewhat apologetic. My server came with the check, asked if everything was okay, rather than bitch I said it was fine, and she gave me the fakest grin ever as she took off. I contemplated being from Canada but wound up giving the minimum amount(if it were 1990). I wished I had thought to give the two folks that gave me good service a tip directly but I just wanted to leave(and rush home to Unilocal my review…*LOL*…after a detour or two…). When the hostess asked if I wanted to leave a tip as I gave her my card, in my mind I wanted to say: «Here’s a tip… give me better service and you might get a better tip.» but instead I said I left one at the table and quickly left. Maybe if they’re still around in 30 years and I’m blessed to still be living on this Earth, I’ll check them out again.

Been going here for 10+ years and have never had a bad meal or experience: warm inviting atmosphere, fantastic food in heaping portions, and the perfect family-owned ambiance… Gabe’s is *the* place!

I just finished reading the reviews of Gabe’s, a place I have been going for years.(And yes, I am under the age of 55)! I love Gabe’s, I have only been here for lunch. The chicken salad with pecan and balsamic dressing is my favorite. I have actually picked up the dressing for my personal consumption. The tuna melt is also wonderful. It is also very clean.

The place has been in Glenwood for many years and is a staple. You can get breakfast and lunch there and I’m not sure if they still do the Friday night fish fry. Great eggs benedict. Great service– quick and friendly. Price is right. Parking is ok-probably could use more. Have been here many times.

Love Gabe’s place. My mom and I are Sunday regulars. actually I think this is the only day of the week I’ve ever been. Anyways, we go on Sunday’s after church for the cream of chicken rice soup. The food is good, the service is pretty good, and the greeting staff is very friendly. I typically only get breakfast, but years ago I used to get the grilled cheese and fries which was my staple meal and still a favorite. Whatever you order, your food is pretty sure to be hot and served quickly. *pay at the front counter

Was visiting family from out of town and decided to have breakfast here. The people were welcoming, food and service was good, and they have a pretty good looking menu, disappointed that I didn’t have time try more items. It appears to be a family run operation and I even noticed the owner busing tables: that’s a work ethic I can respect. If I had one thing to complain about, it would be that the floor is pretty crowded and not a lot of semi-private seating. but that’s a minor one.

Lots of locals hang out here. Try the amazing chicken, blue cheese, pecan salad. Huge and totally worth the drive from Flossmoor.

LOVE breakfast at Gabe’s, in fact my whole family loves it! Their omelets are outstanding, hash browns and wonderful and pancakes are fluffy and delicious! Lunch is wonderful as well, especially their lentil soup! I wish they served it every day, I would be the 7 days a week just for that! Service is wonderful!

This is your every day, run in the mill, little place to get a decent meal. The service is good and the décor is kind of cute, but the food is just average at best. And for the price, there are better values in the area.

If you’re under 55 and you come here for a meal, forget about getting decent service. For some reason only the members of the blue-rinse crowd seem to get any kind of «customer service» here. I found it quite offensive how my husband and I were ignored by the staff here on two separate occasions. I understand that we are much younger than the usual clientele, but our money spends exactly the same way as theirs. It is a shame, because its the only place for Sunday brunch in my neighborhood.

Gabe’s Place is a local favorite among old folks and middle agers who just wandered out of church. The food is pretty standard breakfast fare, with decent lunch food. I’m not crazy about the place, but I don’t think its terrible. There is nothing in particular about the food that I found outstanding, but a few things that I have to point out that annoy me about the place. First of all, they are the only breakfast join I go to in the area that doesn’t allow you to substitute pancakes as a side instead of toast. Most places will ask you if you want toast or pancakes, but here, its toast. Period. Also, and most annoying, is that the wait staff are usually very nice, unless you are younger. When my wife and I, both in our twenties, go in together, or if I go in with a friend, we are given awful service. Its only when I go with my parents that we’re treated like human beings, as it would seem young people just aren’t welcome in the restaurant. If we order coffee, we’re lucky to get a refill unless my folks or grandmother is around. For these reasons, I tend to drive a bit farther to Blueberry Hill or Kingsberry Waffle House. The service and food are just better there.
