I’ve been coming here ever since I was a kid and this place has never disappointed! It’s a cute little mom and pop place that everyone should check out! The sushi is always fresh and they have a wide variety of sashimi, rolls, udon, and teriyaki plates(for those who aren’t a huge fan of raw fish). Most rolls come with miso soup but I like to add a side salad too cause their dressing is so good lol everything is fairly inexpensive, which is hard to come across with high quality sushi places. I recommend trying their umi roll as well as the rainbow roll.

DONOTGOHERE!!! I got FOODPOSIONING!!! From only eating like 3 bites of the«orange roll» which is a California roll with salmon on top. When I took a bite I noticed it didn’t taste that good, fresh salmon usually has a lot of flavor and buttery and melts in your mouth. This salmon kind of tasted like nothing. Weird. I should have known better. They had bad customer service and when I asked for extra ginger they said they would have to charge me for that, have you ever heard a sushi place say that to you before? No I didn’t think so. So now I’m stuck at home and I’ve thrown up 5 times since I left that place. Hope this review can warn others!

Sushi Umi to me looks like more of a fast food sushi type of place, but it was pretty good for being a little sushi restaurant. You can order the sushi to go and water is served in styrofoam cup which you serve yourself. It’s a small place. I got the dynamite roll and the caterpillar roll. They were both good! If I wanted some fast sushi when I’m out in the Covina and Glendora area than I would come here.

Love this place. Its a cute little family owned place. Started coming here my freshman year of high school with my mom, my sister, and my niece. We would come here every friday after school. The food is good. Love the miso soup and their cucumber rolls.

I am truly baffled by the good reviews for Sushi Umi in Glendora. We had some of the worst sushi here that we’ve ever had in 25 years. The sashimi was tinged with ice and tasteless. The unagi(eel) tasted off. The ikura(salmon eggs) were cloudy orange and mushy. They tasted rotten. It was so bad, we couldn’t finish our meal. The staff wasn’t overly friendly, especially the man putting orders together– he and the cashier seemed to be angrily arguing about my request to substitute something else for the shrimp on the rainbow roll. He wouldn’t even look at me when I tried to explain that I’m allergic. I give them a second star because the cashier refunded my money for the ikura when I told her I couldn’t eat it. I won’t come here again no matter how much I’m craving sushi.

We decided to try Sushi Umi because of its proximity to home and do not regret our decision. The baked salmon roll is my favorite, we order it every time. I have had several different rolls and none have disappointed me. The vegetables in the vegetable tempura are fresh and delicious. The staff are friendly and always sweet to my baby when I bring her in.

We hadn’t been there in a while. And either our tastes have changed or the food has changed. It was very average. Every single roll has imitation crab in it. Every. One. The quality was average. The salmon skin was chewy & the lettuce was iceberg. We have had better quality elsewhere for $ 1 more in price. We won’t be back.

Sooo good… it takes a while to get your food because they make it fresh so always always always call it in… and then pick it up in 15 minutes, the place is way to small to sit and wait… sit…and nd wait…

I love it here the sushi is delicious. And if you come during their lunch hour special, you get miso soup. Definitely my favorite sushi stop close to me. Price for the sushi quality is great. They are closed on Mondays by the way!

I tend to favor small mom and pop shops and local food, but this place is literally the worst sushi I’ve had in 3 years. Fish was sliced so thin I could see through it, rolls were small, miso soup was similar to the stuff you can make from the box, tempura had wayyyyyyy too much batter and also tasted like the stuff you can make from a box, rice was stale tasting(how do you mess up rice?). If I’m going to spend $ 10 per roll, it ought to be decent. There are MUCH better sushi places in the area. I came here per the recommendation of a colleague, bad choice.

This place is perfect for lunch because it’s quick and delicious. I especially love the Umi Rolls. It is a crunch roll so it has that great texture from the fried shrimp. The roll is a large size so it’s a very full bite. The order comes with 8 so it’s pretty filling by the end of it. Other rolls I have tried here have been great as well. The spicy tuna packs a nice kick and I remember the caterpillar being delicious as well. I mostly stick to the Umi Roll when I come here because it was the first sushi I tried back in the day. Really made me interested to try more sushi here and at other places so I have a little soft spot for it. All of their rolls have a truly beautiful presentation. The way the sauce is plated add various topping depending on the roll are added very intentionally. Always nice to have your food be Instagram worthy. Their miso soup is good but mostly broth. The tempera isn’t too oily and the teriyaki sauce on chicken or whatever has a good flavor. It’s generally not full so you get your food quick no matter the time of day. The staff is all very friendly. There is one tv in the corner and they’d probably change the channel if you ask-doesn’t even look like they could see it from the counter.

Seeing that this place has 4 stars, my friends and I were looking forward to this place and came with an open mind, but we all left highly disappointed. We got: 1) A sashimi platter that came with various types of sashimi. We didn’t finish it(and it was definitely finish-able). We couldn’t finish it b/c it didn’t taste fresh. 2) A roll that was a California roll topped with raw salmon — again, the fish was cut small and didn’t taste that great. 3) Shrimp tempura: which was fine: crunchy as it should be. The tempura dipping sauce was too dark and heavy compared to real Japanese restaurants. 4) Potstickers — tasted like frozen potstickers that were just deep fried quickly. We also got miso soup with our orders, which tasted ok. It’s a type of place where you order/pay at the front and then they will bring your food out to you. I do commend their service, it was very friendly, but towards the end when they saw that we didn’t finish our meals, we felt like they were staring at us, so we felt uncomfortable and just left. I would not recommend this place.

I’ve passed by this sushi place a million times because it’s so close to my place but it never really strike my attention at all. Luckily someone I know came for a visit and my aunt supposedly comes to this place often so I tagged along. The place is really nice, cool, but doesn’t have that Japanese feeling to it like normal sushi places do. They don’t have a sushi bar to sit on and a lot of people seem to take the food out. The menu is really nice and I think all of the items in there has pictures in it making choosing easier. Another weird thing is that I had to go up to the counter and order the food. I don’t know if that was because my aunt is a regular or something but don’t be afraid to go up to the counter if no one stopped by your table. I ordered their specialty the umi sushi and it’s good but I’ve tasted better. They also have crunchy roll and spicy tuna roll and etc. They also serve udon and combo sets like chicken teriyaki and tonkatsu. Be careful though, the combo sets is quite large. They are also well made but I think they could do a lot better. One thing I really like is their calamari and their salmon skin(I think…) salad. I think this place is enough to satisfy your palate if you are craving Japanese food. In my opinion, the only down side is their combo plates are better than their sushi. I recommend going to another place if you want sushi; if you want beef teriyaki or chicken katsu by all means stop by, they’re pretty good.

I’ve been here a few times and it’s definitely improved over the last year. They had a «B» rating before(be is for the best!), but now they are up to «A». I ordered the Spicy Jalapeño Roll with some Miso Soup and the tea from the fridge. It was pretty good and fresh with a nice kick and good flavors. They have a small dining area, but we’ve never had a hard time finding a place to sit. They also have a water cooler for water next to the cooler. They’re always very friendly and welcoming when you come in and they bring your food out pretty quick. It’s in the corner of the shopping center, so it can be easy to miss from the street when you’re driving by. Prices are very reasonable and you’re in and out quickly, which makes it great for lunch.

This seems to be a Japanese mom and pop shop. The food is pretty good, and decently priced, and perfect for those people that are on the go or just want a decent cheap meal to eat. One of things that I quickly noticed, is that they have a sushi chef making fresh sushi. Its cool to see an actual Japanese Sushi Chef making and rolling sushi instead of a sushi maker. The sushi is pretty good for the price. Their combo meals are very filling, as most come with miso, salad and rice. I have ordered the chicken, and beef teriyaki, california roll, and crunch roll which has been delicious. Pros: They have an actual Japanese sushi chef rolling the rolls and sushi. Its quick, fast, and cheap. Cons: I have ordered take out a few times and noticed that they have forgot to give us something(soup or rice), or gave us something we did not order. Overall: For the price and convienance you really can’t complain about anything. I highly recommend coming here if you are short on time and need something quick and cheap to eat.

Called in a to-go order, spicy tuna, caterpillar and volcano roll. Ran about $ 24 for all three. The spicy tuna roll was $ 3.50 I think, 8 pieces, but small, it was simple, and I think I would have preferred spicy tuna sushi but for the price it was good. The caterpillar roll was really good, probably the best one I’ve had. The size was good and the pieces were portioned pretty well, I did have two that were oddly thin, but the rest were fine. Great tastes, textures and flavors. The volcano roll was interesting as the entire thing was topped with sriracha but strangely wasn’t too spicy. Nice mix with the onions and sauce and all that. I would try something different next time but it was good. The service was quick, I was quoted 15 minutes, showed up about 20 minutes later and they were boxing it up for me. So, about average wait time. The prices were a bit higher for their specialty rolls but are 10 piece rolls instead of the normal 8, so I think that’s why. I don’t like take out sushi that doesn’t give you plastic ramekins of soy sauce(how am I supposed to mix my wasabi and soy sauce with just packets of sauce!?) so that was a bummer to get a handful of packets. I did get wasabi along side each roll but I had no way to mix them… shame. They use pink ginger which is too bad as I prefer white. But overall I was still pleased with the sushi quality, taste and service. It’s a good less expensive option and it’s convient. I’ll be back here again for sure.

I was pleasantly surprised by Sushi Umi, we had a very nice lunch here =D After hitting up The Donut Man, my boyfriend and I were looking for some food to reduce the effects of the sugar high. After some Unilocaling, we came across this place which had received good reviews and only had one dollar sign! Glad we tried it out! When we arrived there was only one other customer inside waiting for his food. I ordered the udon noodles with a spicy tuna roll, and my boyfriend had one of the sushi combos and ordered the fried calamari as well. Service was really quick and the food was great! My udon was light, yummy and exactly what I wanted. The spicy tuna was really good too, and they were generous with the side of wasabi and ginger which I loved because some places skimp on that. My boyfriend enjoyed his sushi, but he was surprised that they added some sriracha inside. The fried calamari was like tempura: very light and crunchy. I would definitely hit this place up again if I was in the area. The employees were very nice, the food was great and it was a decent price. Sushi Umi is kinda located in a corner though, but it’s worth finding and checking out!

Oh man. After that Lakers game, I feel the need to type a review to get my mind away from the game. lol. –_-. Anyways. I completely forgot that Sushi Umi was here. When ever I’m in this plaza, I always go to: Vons, CVS, or Subway. Luckily I had to pass by Sushi Umi before getting to Subway and Japanese just sounded good. Food: I got the Lunch tempura combo. Everything tasted great. I wish it came with more pieces of shrimp. At least 2. Cause it tasted good and I was looking for another one and I couldn’t find any. lol. The California Roll also tasted good. Service: Really good. Price: About $ 8.00 for all my food. WORTHIT. Will I be back? Probably!
