Personalized Music Lessons

Marty has been working with me for several years. He allows me to get as technical as I desire, but he is also willing to «just play». My work schedule changes every week, but Marty does his best to accommodate me and this has allowed me to maintain interest despite being an adult learner. I think he is just great. This hasn’t changed in the three years since my last review.

The lesson yesterday was great, and I’m excited about «flowing horizontally» on the ear training. It’s really going to open me up more creatively. I am a melodically-​focused person, but as you said, I’ve just never really «used» it. The lesson will not only be a musical experience, but a psychological one as well.
Now I can get a little taste of what it’s like to create beautiful jazz melodies (on a very basic level)! Thank you so much for guiding me to be a totally well-​rounded vibes player. Personalized Music Lessons is the PERFECT name for your teaching method. You really know me and what I need. I’m very excited about going into this «uncharted territory» for me! Scary, but so cool. (And we did it on the phone because my computer isn’t close enough to my keyboard to use Skype. Wow!)

I called Marty because my son wanted lessons to play guitar but was also interested in learning bass. He’s a picky teenager and I wanted him to have a successful experience. (I have had some bad music lessons in my day.) Marty had just the right amount of care and interest and love of music to really keep Ryan interested and learning. I highly suggest him to both parents and adults wanting to learn music.

I had gone to 2 – 3 music instructors over the years to learn piano, and of course they all had their personal teaching techniques and methods, but I never really got far and ended up getting frustrated. I never felt like writing a review for my music teachers before, however Marty’s instruction was amazing and I’m compelled to write this.
I was brought on as the lead singer for a band and they wanted me to play piano. I had never really played well before and Marty had me playing live while singing before I ever thought I could. I have to be honest, I almost never practiced aside from band practice, yet I learned so much from Marty at each lesson which was always tailored specifically to my needs and level that I improved leaps and bounds every week. His patience, understanding of music and overall passion made every lesson enjoyable and I could see my swift progress. This man’s definitely the guy to go to for music lessons or just a good laugh! Thanks Marty.

Marty is the man! I’m a bass player in an improvisational rock band, and he truly helped me grow as a musician and with the overall understanding of my instrument. I highly recommend Marty as your teacher because the lesson plans revolve around where you are at as a musician, and lean towards your style of playing.
Most of my lessons were done in person, but I’ve also done many phone lessons. Both VERY effective.
Stick with the weekly lessons — do your homework — and you will be surprised on how fast you progress.

Marty is great, I’ve been taking lessons with him for about almost 3 years, and I’ve learned an incredible amount from him. When I started taking lessons with Marty, I might have known a couple of chords, but that was about it, a few years later, and I’m able to do a lot with a guitar, I’m by no means a master of the instrument, but I’ve reached all my original goals, and I’m now a semi-​professional musician, gigging around town and playing in a couple of bands, I couldn’t have done it without Marty (at least not that fast!).

I’ve been a student of Marty’s since 2009. Out of all of my music teachers he has been by far my favorite. Mainly because he has always been interested in what my goals have been and he custom-​fit my lessons to help me accomplish them. His range of knowledge across instruments such as piano, bass, fretless bass, guitar, and varying styles of classical, rock, blues, etc., makes him a valuable asset. He’s so good that he’s even trained actors on playing particular rhythms for movies! If you are interested in choosing music as a professional career, or even something to do as a hobby, Marty is the best choice.

Two thumbs up for Marty. I’ve been learning the guitar from Marty for about a year and a half and I could not imagine a better teacher. Here are my top 3 reasons —
1. Marty will work towards your goals and personalize the lessons to fit your interests and needs. He and I review my goals on a regular basis and continue to set new milestones. I found this approach to be very effective in motivating me and keeping me on track (which can be challenging at times as an adult learner).
2. He knows his stuff. He is equally experienced as an instructor as he is as a performer. Marty understands music theory and plays professionally — plus has had many year of teaching of teaching all levels — which makes him the ultimate teacher.
3. Marty is a fun guy! He has a great sense of humor and cares about his students. I’ve enjoyed every single lessons, even the ones when I went in stressed from work or life.
His students seem to stick around for years, which is a good indication of his teaching abilities. I wholeheartedly recommend Marty!
