Three and a half stars. Mom and pop restaurant. Good service. Not a ton of options beside fried chicken, shrimp, or fish, and sides. Chicken is pretty tasty, erring on the salty, paprika side. Good crispy skin, juicy inside. Pineapple Cole slaw is too sweet for me. Crispy fries are yum. My husband liked the roll a lot. Waffle was uninteresting. Note that there’s a takeout menu that’s larger than the eat-in menu. For takeout, you can order by the bucket and in different combination of pieces. Next time I get a fried chicken craving, I’ll be back for takeout.

It’s Dinah’s Fried Chicken so I figured the chicken would be fantastic, but I was disappointed. The chicken was rubbery and seemed a bit overdone. The mashed potatoes were potato buds with an odd flavored gravy, the biscuit was a dinner roll and not a very good one at that, and the cole slaw may have been okay if it wasn’t warm. Overall not a good meal.

Chicken over all is a 3 out of 5 stars Side orders are gross! such as the coleslaw it has no flavor and taste like it was poorly made. Mashed potatoes were made from scratch Box of liver and gizzards were salty and over cooked Customer service was 2 out of 5 stars, Ladies taking the orders were a little rude and made the ordering process unpleasant

Pressure-fried, Southern flour and pepper dusted chicken pieces you know did come from a chicken(that actually grew up locally, no less.) We’ve been hitting up Dinah’s for about 8 years now, and family-run still beats every alternative hands-down. The young woman running the place these days is 3rd generation to the namesake. We prefer left-overs, because fried chicken is like that(and better than pizza whether cold, or reheated,) thus we beget the 5-piece dinner plates, and add-on from there(because…it goes even better that way.) The chicken gravy is absolutely solid, thick, rich, properly dark medium roux’d, peppered, and not a drip of cornstarch. Unlike Jeff’s(Murfreesboro TN) biscuits, Dinah’s serves Parker House rolls. And homemade apple butter(those brown jars sitting on every table that seem so foreign to every Californian stopping by…) Super sweet corn cobs, steamed to order, so they don’t have that odd sitting in boiled water and butter oil taste that the foil-wrapped things at the franchises seem to label as corn. One of the few this far north that serves up tender fried gizzards, livers and sometimes kidneys(meaning I _know_I can get them in SoLA… but that’s a half-hour and an occasional police-presence away.) These are something that have never survived the trip home — for a couple of reasons: besides being really tasty and fast to disappear, I have yet to come up with a decent way to reheat these suckers without turning them into jerky nuggets, and they(unlike fried chicken) are not good cold. The leftovers of these usually end up diced up into leftover gravy and served on top of something else. Cole slaw is pineapple style, lightly sweet, and balanced. The bean salad is pretty vinegar-heavy, which goes well if you’re doing the livers and gizzards, but for most chicken(and definitely not with the fish, which is also a great choice — but you’d have to find your own malt vinegar, this is tartar sauce only territory) the dressing is way too overpoweringly, well… vinegary. Then there’s these waffles. Just waffles, and not exactly conspicuously on the menu either.(no eggs, bacon, hashed browns — no breakfast, just waffles) The thicker Belgian style. Meaning, if you want your Chicken and Waffles. There. Just ask for them as one of your sides, and presto. Now you have them. Go eat. There are decent french fries — nothing extraordinary, just good ones, and even better smothered with more of that chicken gravy. Come to think of it, hit up Vons next door, buy a ½ pound of country cheese curds and make your own poutine heaven out of them. 2 hot sauces(Tabasco and Tapatillo) Bring your own Sriracha or Louisiana, or Red’s if you must. No banana pepper vinegar either. No fried green tomatoes. No fried pickles. No sweet tea. No cornbread. Southern California, not SoLA(yes, plenty of places in Crenshaw and Hawthorne I can name that cover those things, but not near south Glendale.) Then you may or may not notice there’s this soft-spoken glass display full of pies behind the register(depending on the time of day — usually by day-end there isn’t much left in there but a slice or two.) We never usually have room for pie that moment. We just buy the whole ones to-go. Real whipped cream. Real custards. A pecan pie that has bourbon and doesn’t seep like a melted Kraft caramel. Banana Cream pies that are kind of miraculous. You start with a whole pie in front of you, and then for some odd reason a few minutes later half is gone, and you’re the only one there. Really weird. Better buy two. Parking is open lot… but there is definitely a laundromat in this one. Beware the ides of Door Dings due to laundry loading. Personally, I’ve come to avoid the particular days when Groupon’s hit, or the Entertainment Card new issue comes out, as it seems to attract the weirdest people who come to places once, pay little, expect everything, and then manage every odd way to justify why they won’t come back(which I think is really because there might not be another coupon next time.) Meh. Chicken this good doesn’t need a coupon. There are times I’ve come here just to order a couple dozen of her wings, and took ‘em home to hit ‘em sideways with Red’s and melted butter, broil them finished and have a buffalo wing feast that is really close to perfection(‘cept the wings weren’t marinated first before frying…)

Great Chicken! Reminds me of Pioneer or the old Denver Drumstick! The bisquits? Eh. They’re dinner rolls. Go to Popeyes for bisquits, go to Dinah’s for chicken!

Stopped on my home for some chicken to go, and it was like a walk back in time for me. My family used to get chicken exclusively from Dinah’s in Glendale and after one bite I was back home 30 years ago. It was so nice to taste that nothing has changed, sure prices might have gone up but that amazing chicken is still my hands down favorite. Pair it with their mashed potatoes and chicken pepper gravy! Food brings back so many great memories for me and I was glad that I can now make new memories with my family, Aloha

This little diner is really cute inside. They have good fried chicken, good mash potatoes and gravy, and actually incredible corn on the cob. I’m not sure what people were expecting but if you’re looking for a hearty fried chicken meal for a decent price, this place is 4 stars.

I’ve dined at Dinah’s twice. The first visit was better than expected(I’m southern — my fried chicken standards are HIGH, son). I was even eager to return, as it seemed like a decent enough, and quicker, alternative to Roscoe’s. My second dining experience here was ‘meh’ at the time and gradually got worse as the salmonellosis set in. I was grateful for the unexpected weight loss, but the 48+ hours I spent in the bathroom really offset my gratitude. 2⁄5 stars, would not get poisoned again.

I love their chicken and the atmosphere of the restaurant is so nice. This chicken is definitely a crowd pleaser at family functions, and the coleslaw is the best I’ve had so far. My only issue is that the mashed potatoes and gravy are a bit on the salty side, so I can’t dive into them like I normally would.

My boyfriend and I were roaming the area and spotted this joint from the corner of our eye so we decided to stop by this place for dinner. We love trying mom and pop places especially if they’ve been around for awhile so we were pretty excited. The venue is kind of small but it definitely has a cozy feel. It definitely looks like a vintage restaurants that’s been serving it’s community for years because it doesn’t look too modern, and everything had an old 80’s style touch. I wouldn’t say that the service was bad, but too be honest it wasn’t amazing. We didn’t get a super warm welcome(which isn’t a huge deal); just the average exchange between a customer and server. We chose the three piece chicken order, and each order comes with 2 sides, and a bread roll(averaging about 12 dollars for the meal? I’ll post a photo of the menu) We ordered corn on the cob, pineapple cole slaw, mashed potatoes, and liver and chicken gizzards as appetizer. Overall the food was good, but it wasn’t great. The friend chicken was kind of dry(seemed liked we got the end of the day left overs). The dinner roll was your generic type of roll but they included apple butter so that was pretty tasty. The sides were probably the best part of the meal. Overall, it wasn’t too expensive but you could probably go to Ralphs or any other grocery story and get friend chicken and sides and it’ll be just as good, and probably cheaper in terms of quantity. I would recommend trying this place at least once, but I don’t think I’ll be going back again.

We don’t agree with the bad reviews. What we ordered was good for what it is. This Ian not a 5 star culinary once in a lifetime experience restaurant . It’s an old diner and the fried fish and the fries and the Coke slaw was as good any place similar to this one . Pineapple Coke slaw was for sure homemade and very very good. Not to acidy and not too sweet . Fries also seemed to be home made and not from frozen. Fish smelled fresh it really didn’t have a smell at all and looked and tasted good.

I’m so disappointed. I was expecting some real good authentic homemade fried chicken, but my 2 out of 3 of my giblets were DRENCHED in grease to where they weren’t crunchy anymore. :(and the mashed potatoes were just OK. Corn on the cob was kinda good though! Def not worth the $ 10 because I ate 1 giblet, some mashed potatoes and corn and I’m still hungry.

I came here for lunch one day while I was doing my laundry next door. Growing up in North Carolina, I can say that this fried chicken is pretty damn good. I highly recommend coming here, either alone or with friends. It’s greasy. It’s homey. It’s delicious.

This is the best fried chicken I ever had that I didn’t make myself. It reminds me of the kind I had in the South where they grease it with Crisco and coat it with Cornflakes. I don’t know how they do it, and I hope it’s better for you than it tastes, cuz something so good can’t be good for you, so crispy and juicy.

Dinah’s is a much more healthier version of KFC as far as quality of the food. With it’s own unique blend of flour, herbs and spices their product stands out from the rest with a home-cooked flavor and style. The food in general is good and fresh but needs more flavor The usual for me is the 3-piece dark and white with 2 sides and bread roll for about $ 10 bucks. My sides usually include mashed potatoes and a grilled buttered corn on the cob. Other sides are available but play it safe and stick to the traditional stuff. Available for desert are homemade pies that look delish but after a 3 piece meal… there is never enough room for a slice. The service here is always pleasant and welcoming. The staff is fast and always at the ready to attend to service. Inside it’s small and limited in seating so I usually come late just before closing to avoid delay. My go to spot for fried chicken plus I love supporting family owned especially that of good food and service.

I was looking forward to trying fried livers & gizzards for the first time. I paid 7 dollars for $ 20 worth of food voucher.(TOTALREGRET) 4 words salty, dry, oily, and stale. The chicken, liver and gizzard was so salty and oily that we couldn’t even finish it. To top it off they even added a salt package and spoon wrapped inside the napkin. Really? Like it wasnt salty enough.(Don’t you taste your food before you serve it to people???) The roll was so hard that I could polly use it as a baseball or break a window with it. I’m not kidding. It was literally rock hard, dry and so stale. The sides were horrible. From their popular mash potato with gravy to their pineapple coleslaw. One star for the delicious banana cream pie. That was the only thing that was edible and that I would recommend. I wouldn’t go back even if someone gave me and free voucher or gift card.

Was planning on stopping and grabbing some Macaroni Salad on way home. But my friend tried to eat at Dinah’s on Sepulveda with her young daughter today. While they were in bathroom washing their hands before eating the Staff not only threw away their food but little girl’s toy too. Not until Mama Bear started yelling and went in back was she able to retrieve toy out of TRASH — while allegedly Staff denied taking toy and wanted Mama Bear to pay for food Staff removed and threw away!!! Baby Bear told Staff«they’d better be nice to her Mom cause she was really mad!» So Nope no Dinah’s for me!

I was not impressed with the food here. I got the Chicken Dinner that came with 3 pieces of chicken(breast, thigh, leg), pineapple coleslaw, mashed potatoes & gravy, clam chowder, roll, banana bread, & a drink for $ 15.95. You can definitely share this with somebody if you were starving and had nothing else to eat. KFC’s chicken is wayyyyyy better! My chicken was on the dry side and it didn’t even taste that good… not even the skin. My coleslaw was a little on the sweet side because of the pineapples and my mashed potatoes was blah! My clam chowder had barely 4 mini pieces of potatoes in it which was ok with me because I never eat the potatoes in my soup any way but it was mostly all broth with teeny weeny pieces of clams after fishing for it. I didn’t get a chance to taste the banana bread. I left it. The only thing I liked was my coke and the fresh roll with butter. That was amazing! So I basically came for soda and fresh bread! Lol. So to sum it up… food was yucky except for the bread. Don’t forget 2 check in for 10% off your bill if u decide to go. I hope your experience is better than mine!
