It used to be good. We noticed the quality dropping over the years. the last straw was when my wife almost choked to death because a wire brush was in the food. The manager said«it happens sometimes because the pads they use fall apart sometimes» I never ordered agan after that. I’M GLADTHEYCLOSEDDOWN !!!

This is not good Chinese food, even under the new Maple Bros. name. It’s not even worth getting into details on the gloppy sweet sauces or substandard ingredients. The search goes on to find a decent Long Island Chinese restaurant beyond Orient in Bethpage and Jericho, or Moonstone in Great Neck.

Love this place… have been going here for years. Great vegetarian options .they even have a mock sweet and sour dish(so good) and a mock Hunan beef(I think that’s what it’s called, can’t remember) it’s been a while since I got that one. The sweet and sour is great! The scallion pancakes and cold sesame noodles are good. Service is great, too! Sorry some people had a bad experience … It’s a really nice place :)

Rude people, call at 3:37pm inquiring for the lunch special and they said too late only until 3:30pm. The paper menu delivered to my home says until 4pm on saturdays, they said they don’t care what the printed menu flyer says… don’t stand to their own word! For this inconvenience you just lost a weekly customer.

Wow! Looking at these reviews I thought oh no my favorite Chinese place has gone downhill. I thought I might change my mind and order from somewhere else. But I decided to go with what I know. There was a long wait for the food — one hour. But once it got here the soup was hot. The eggroll was not. 20 seconds in the microwave and all is good and the food, chicken and broccoli. And chicken fried rice were excellent. So I guess they read the reviews and improved their service and food. Thank you! Uncle Dai’s.

I have ‘dined’ here twice over 20 years. The food is mediocre, except for the defrosted lobster and overcooked scallops(if you can find them among the veggies) which were even worse. The white rice was even more tasteless than most specimens I’ve had. Service is quick but neurotic and you feel pressured. The manager patrols the place staring at each table. While I appreciate his diligence, he was a distraction and made me uncomfortable. Perspective: I have lived in Northern CA for 23 years, where we often dine in the Wine Country where the food has flavor(not just salt), and the service pleasant. And yes, we do eat Asian, though I prefer Thai.

This place never lets me down. I’ve been coming here for about 25 years, and have never had a bad meal. The prices are very reasonable, especially lunch on Tuesdays, where for as little as $ 5.50, you get soda, egg roll, soup, and entrée with white, brown or fried rice. What a deal!

I had a really bad experience the portions were extremely small the food was completely overcooked the size of the portion for the food i order was extremely overprized i had the food delivered to my work place and it took over an hour for it to be recieved the delivery guy was extremely rude he backed up into a car and was so unprofessional because he immediately drove off never got out of the car never bothered to check for damage he just drove off like nothing happened i was next to the car when he hit it the owner of the hit vehicle was next to the car when it was hit and by the time we went to check the back of the vehicle the delivery guy drove off completely so im sadden to say for my 1st experience ordering food from this restaurant is extremely horrible and if their was damage on the vehicle it would of been considered hit a run so im extremely un satisfied with the way the delivery guy handled it by driving off i will not be ordering from this restaurant ever again

I’ve recently went here again to have a nice meal with my boyfriend before going to work and it was horrible. The last time I was here was when I wrote the review(a year ago) stating how great this place was. I guess over a year it changed to the worst. It was empty in the place when we went inside to get seated. I was very sick so I couldn’t eat much. My boyfriend ordered a lunch special and I went to order an egg roll, a chicken noodle soup and a gingerale. The lady says«you know we have an $ 8 minimum right?» I calculated in my head and it came out to be $ 7 and change. Did it really matter? We were the only ones in the restaurant! She told me to get a lunch special… I don’t want a lunch special… I explained I was sick. I needed soup! I gave $ 3 tip when she deserved none! Never coming back! Waitress was horrible.

We passed by this restaurant thinking it looked decent from the outside despite the drunken homeless man outside yelling, «they serve cats in there!» That should’ve been our first clue. We walked in, and there was hardly anyone in the restaurant… A 2nd clue. The food was not good and no way near authentic. The chicken w/garlic sauce dish was like celery soup with a small side of chicken hidden amongst the thousands of thick stalks of celery. The noodles were hard yet gummy and impossible to cut them with your teeth… Like a thick rope. I don’t know how one can manage that. It’s hard to imagine there are Zagat ratings from 2004 on the door. These must be leftover from a previous establishment. PS don’t eat the free fruit at the end of the meal… Old pineapple

Tried Uncle Dai’s today for a late lunch. The place was empty and remained empty except for one other party. We were a party of four. Three of us ordered a lunch special. One friend had to leave shortly for an appointment, so he tried to order just an egg roll. The frowning waitress informed him that there was an $ 8.00 minimum per person per table. «But your lunch specials are only $ 6.95» we observed. «Plus tax and tip makes $ 8.00» the waitress muttered, still frowning. So he ordered a lunch special to go so he could sit with us. The hot and sour soup was totally bland, not worth eating. The wonton soup was very salty with wontons that were cold in the middle. The Chicken Kung Pao and the shrimp with cashew nuts were surprisingly good considering how bad the starters were, but that’s not enough to get me to ever return to Uncle Dai’s.

I placed a take out order of two meals. I received only one fortune cookie for both meals. My kids like the cookies so I asked for another. They insisted on charging me 50 cents for an additional fortune cookie that I should’ve received anyways since I paid for two meals. For this reason, just on principle, I can no longer recommend this restaurant.

Disgusting ordered on a pu-pu platter. Ribs burnt, shrimp toast burnt, chicken on stick dry– I have never had service where I had to describe what I did not eat. I practically gave the hole meal back after paying 10.95 I had to get the third degree on what I eat and did not eat. My husband ordered steak and peppers the would not give him friend rice gave him brown rice. paid 26.00 dollars for these to. do not go here. was not for us.

I’ve coming here since 1988, and yesterday was the worst. The service was slow and some dishes were cold, it seemed that they were waiting for the Crispy Fish to get done. This dish used to be good but this time it was small and didn’t have enough for one person. All the other dishes were excellent, but they’d been waiting for the fish to get done, so arrived on the cold side. I used to swear by this place, but Uncle Dai need to stop living in the 1980’s and update the place a bit. I still recommend the Dumplings in hot oil, Chicken in Black Bean Sauce, Cold Noodles, Beef in Asparagus, and Golden Scallops. The Squid dish I had was overdone, but still ok. Normally the service is super fast and efficient, and they are often generous with the free wine, but yesterday it tasted watered down. Pull your socks up Uncle Dai, and return to the forefront of Chinese cuisine.

I ordered takeout and the woman taking the order interrupted me so many times that she didn’t get the order right! After waiting forever because she didn’t get the address right, due to her constant talking over me, the order was wrong! When I called to tell them, she, AGAIN, continued to interrupt me and insist that I «got what I ordered!» NEVERAGAIN! They are liars and cheats!

Well… I was disappointed in the beef and broccoli — something was not as good as I’ve had before. I thought beef and broccoli was pretty basic of a Chinese food dish so that was surprising! And the chicken wings were disgusting! They were soggy with a piece of lettuce in there box. Do not get chicken wings from this place!!! I think Uncle Dai must’ve fell asleep in Chinese cooking school when they taught Beef and Broccoli and Chicken Wing preparation! Ok that being said, the General Tso’s Chicken was pretty good. Singapore noodle and chicken fried rice were ok. Overall I would say this is just an average Chinese restaurant but nothing special. I have never eaten in this place so I cannot comment on that. For delivery the food was an average experience but don’t get your hopes too high.

How come glen cove cannot get a good Chinese restaurant? The wonton soup was bland. How much MSG needs to be added to the dishes? My family and I spent the rest of the evening drinking water. Went there once and once was too much!

First impression: dated interior, then again Glen Cove isn’t the most happening of place, so I won’t hold that against them. The Food: I order the Lake Tung-Ting Shrimp. The dish was essentially flavorless, and lacked salt. I also ordered shrimp fried rice which was acceptable but nothing exceptional. My wife ordered shrimp w/mystery generic Chinese brown sauce. Final Verdict: If you’re in the mood for Chinese and are geographically tied to the Glen Cove area, it’s an ok option. I’m new to area so there may be other options that are better?

The food is disgusting greasy fare — the ambiance is ridiculously run down – and the staff is surly. Yes the lunch special is cheap, but it should be – I felt like I was going to go into an MSG coma. I don’t know of a better local chinese option but I would sooner order thai at sopah or something at Asian Fusion than anything here
