Homewood Suites by Hilton

So this review is for the the quality of the room and facility only, not the service. The service I’d give a 3.5-I checked in late last night, and there was a new person. At the front desk-​he was very nice and helpful, but again, this is for the room and facility. So I can’t say anything about the outdoor area nor pool because it’s the winter so it’s not being used. The outside of the building blends in with everything else in what seems to be a corporate park. The plus side is the location seems to be near other things (strip malls and shopping centers). I can tell you there is no bar here (I asked) although they do have free breakfast (which I will be partaking in soon). The entry/​main area looks outdated and it’s confusing to identify where the elevators are (and this should never be the case in any hotel). The room is big and the bed is comfy, but it’s super outdated, dark, and unwelcoming. Between the popcorn ceilings and the moldy shower curtain (and dirty, spot patched tub) I just expected more from this place-​especially as a Hilton Honors member. I’ll be sticking to Residence Inn’s from here on out!

The décor is a very dated, and my bathroom smelled like mildew. I looked in the toilet and noticed that there was a black ring of mildew around the top portion of the toilet bowl. And I didn’t like that when I came back into my room after having housekeeping clean it that all the lights and bedroom TV were left on. I thought it was wasteful. The room in general felt a little damp and smelled faintly of cigarettes.
Other than that, the complimentary breakfast was solid. There is a small gym that guests can use. If you need water and don’t feel like going to 7 – 11, you can fill your water bottle up at the water cooler in the gym :) The staff members were friendly. Lastly, I really liked that there was a recycling bin and conservation energy options (hanging your towel if you were going to reuse it) in the hotel room. Overall, not a bad stay.

I stayed at this location every week since February to August. poor poor poor service the rooms are never clean even until 9:30 pm when you return from work. And when you complain at the front desk this guy looks at you as a complainer and give you that tag also didn’t even bother to offer housekeeping service. FYI we are not staying here for free we stay @ this location that’s y you are in business and you have a job. Will cancel all my bookings and will never return and spread the word.

The biggest issue I had here is the room smells like smoke but so does the halls! I don’t know if the third floor used to be a smoking floor but something should change when it comes to that. I did not ask to be moved because my coworker was right across the hall and I needed to work with her on some things. The fan in the bathroom was extremely loud. The bathroom light blinks before it comes on like something out of the 70s. Other than that it’s decent for the price. I like the kitchenette. The staff was nice.

Piss poor service. Check in is at 3:00 and we arrived at 5:00. Our room will not ready until after 7:00.
There is no excuse for this out of any hotel.

Considering that Homewood Suites was actually less expensive than the Hilton Garden Inn we stayed at a few weeks ago, I decided to go for the suite this time around. My daughter and her family had stayed here and they thought it was fine.
Our room had a king-​sized bed and huge TV and a separate «living room» and kitchen that also had a pull-​out couch and regular-​sized fridge, table, stove, microwave, and coffee maker, as well as dishes, utensils, and a dishwasher.
The staff was very friendly and efficient, as we expect from all Hiltons.
The place offers free dinners Mon-​Thurs – a nice touch if you’re here for business. The calendar listed BBQ ribs, quesadillas, etc., among the entrees. The complimentary breakfast was adequate. Plenty of cereals, yogurts, juices, and breads to choose from, and the chafing dish had a different form of egg each day we were there. The waffle maker was a nice touch.
The only complaint is about the beds. The king-​sized bed had a horrible mattress, and when my husband got sick on Friday, I slept on the pull-​out couch for the remaining days. HORRIBLE sleep. Still stretching to get rid of the aches and pains, and we’ve been home a week.
The place is convenient and we will likely return, but only if the price is less than the Hilton Garden Inn when I am ready to book.

Lots of positives:
1) Quiet location, off Broad st, no car noise at night.
2) 2 rooms, refrigerator in separate room so the noise doesn’t wake you up at night
3) forced air heat for 2 rooms with the heater in a separate closet, not one of those cheapo room heater/​AC units mounted under the door
4) free bfast with option of real dishes/​plates; not the cheapo foam or plastic ware which probably leaches chemicals onto your food if you stick a hot waffle on it
5) professional staff; looks like there are corporate training and quality progams in place. Much better consistent experience than those independently run hotels with non structure. The independents hire cheaper local staff who mostly aren’t happy to begin with and they take out their problems in the customers like trying to gouge them with fluctuating rates or complaining for higher tips.
Negatives:
1) older building, 15+ years old. Remodeled but the older construction techniques mean there is more water noise from the pipes and for rooms near the elevators.
2) slightly higher rate than the studio hotels
3) kitchen sparsely furnished, no wine bottle opener, no knives, no cutting boards to prep food. no prep bowls, no bowls or plates to eat from, no glasses, just paper cups for coffee. If they advertise the kitchen they should make it usable. If you don’t care about the kitchen then the place is 4 – 5 stars.
$ 109.00 rate/​little more than std hotel room. 2 room suites, king bed + separate room with couch + fridge+ range. No cooking utensils, wine opener, plates or glass cups. Limited pots/​pans. Kitchen barely usable. Prob have to ask front desk staff for additional equipment.

We stay here twice a year during NASCAR weekends, so we see this hotel at its most crowded. They have performed extremely well under pressure. Our room has always been ready on time and very clean. Breakfast is always well stocked and hot no matter what time we have eaten. All items in the kitchenette were very clean. Beds great! Definitely a pleasure to stay here.

Stayed here for a class. Only had one minor issue, the room was extremely prone to noise. From hearing the doors slam upstairs to the water heater that sounded like a 747 getting ready for take off. That is the only reason it didn’t get 5 stars. The staff was hands down the best people I’ve ever dealt with. Actually felt welcomed! Was always greeted with a cheerful good morning or afternoon from every staff member including the janitor. What a wonderful group of people!

Been here for a little over a month and the building has lost power twice. Apparently it happens all the time. The hotel across the street had power when we didn’t. Can’t expect to get the truth from the staff. The access door to the roof was open. Not sure what the problem is. Just think you should know as the windows don’t open and all the stairwells don’t have emergency lighting that worked on every floor.

One of the nicer Homewood Suites I have stayed it. The room was big and the bed was super comfy. Good breakfast and coffee in the morning.
Two things kept this from a 5 start rating; I did not receive a wake call as scheduled one morning and my room did not get cleaned one day.
Aaron at the front desk was very nice and was a big help getting a billing issue taken care of for me.

We usually try to stay at a Homewood Suites since we prefer to have a suite rather than a hotel room. This time we went with the two bedroom suite. We LOVED it. It had a bedroom with a king size bed and another bedroom with two double beds for the kids. In between was a decent size living room and a great kitchen. It was great having a whole room between the kids and us making our stay very pleasant. I highly recommend this configuration for families. The front desk staff was nice and took extra steps to resolve a miscommunication with our bill and the breakfast was very good. Although, I would recommend that the breakfast be made available earlier. 7am is not early enough for people who have sports events that start at 7:30am. Also, the location of the hotel was very convenient being located in the middle of a bunch of great restaurants and shopping. Overall a fantastic stay. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who may stay in the Richmond area.

Place is horrible due to the noises it makes with water and heater and air conditioning running. Expect to wake up around 5:30 every morning. A loud knocking sound will start as soon as people start taking showers. Air or heater units make low rumbling sounds. Avoid room 428. Second time i have stayed here and had problems both times.

We stayed here over New Years Eve and had a pleasant stay. Suite is clean and well kept. Central to everything we wanted to do and the price was decent. We would stay here again. Only downside is maid never cleaned our room, having «claimed» we had a DND on our door. Not true as we were out of our room by 10am. But overall I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to this hotel.
