I would caution travelers thinking of staying here. The motel’s location was convenient for our motorcycle ride along the Blue Ridge Parkway, so I made a reservation in advance. The motel’s website indicated that the motel had an onsite restaurant, and that convenience was important to us. When we arrived the motel appeared to be in disrepair. We were the only guests present that night. When we checked in we asked about the onsite restaurant and were told that the restaurant was closed(open only seasonally), but that we could drive 5 miles to a gas station to buy something to eat. We elected to eat emergency provisions that we brought with us, so we inquired about a microwave and were told the room didn’t have one. The manager booked us in another room that had a microwave. While in the lobby we were told that the motel had been featured on the television show Hotel Impossible, so we were hopeful. We entered the room and found it to be very outdated and with worn out beds that severely sagged in the middle. The floor hadn’t been vacuumed recently and was visibly full of debris. One bed had bugs crawling up the bedspread, and more bugs were found in the bathroom sink(these were NOT bedbugs). The microwave had a dinner plate being used in place of the original carousel table. We walked around outside to look at things and found a disgusting fish pond that had previously been a swimming pool. Green water and scummy. We were awakened twice overnight by military jets passing overhead at low altitude. The next morning at 7:00 we were served coffee, sliced fruit and muffins in the tiny lobby, so that was indeed appreciated. We were both very disappointed in the quality of the motel and that the website hadn’t indicated that the restaurant was currently closed. When I returned home I watched the Hotel Impossible episode that featured this motel, and was not surprised to see that very few of the recommendations had been implemented. I can’t see how this motel can survive, especially since the owners are so neglectful of the property. The manager, Doreen, was very friendly, but that goes only so far in guest satisfaction.
