Does everyone already know about this burger? Why don’t I hear more people talking about it?! Obviously this is not«clean eating» but when you’re in the mood to cut 30 minutes off your life expectancy I would give this a try. One of the best burgers I have had in Gilroy and it only cost around $ 5. HUGE. Lost one star because of the atmosphere… there is none.

The cleanest fast food experience I’ve had in a long time! Usually dining in at a greasy spoon makes me cringe, but this particular Fosters Freeze was immaculate. The interior has not been remodeled since the 80’s but I’d take outdated over dirty any day. Portions are generous, too. A regular burger feeds a hungry adult. Add waffle fries and a Snickers shake into the equation and it’s a hormonal woman’s wet dream. Not kidding, this meal satisfied all of my salty sweet chocolate cravings in one fell swoop. Fosters Freeze is a classic NorCal road trip stop and I highly recommend this one in Gilroy for your next trip down south.

My first and last time here was about 4 years ago, so this review is a bit overdue. Based on the other reviews, it seems like the same people who were there are still operating this joint. Im surprised this place is still in business. Based on my memory, here goes… My mom and I were in the area and were looking for a place that had soft serve ice cream. It was a hot day, so we were trying to cool down. I got my smart phone out and looked up both Dairy Queen and Fosters Freeze, and this place was closest to where we were — so we chose to come here. Upon driving up, we noticed that there were only 2 cars in the parking lot. The parking lot I might add, was seriously in need of repair. Faded as hell lines on the asphalt, cracks, and weeds growing out thru the cracks. The windows were so dark, and with the over-grown plants that surrounded this place, my mom and I thought it was closed. While driving this building a couple times, we noticed that the gutters were broken/needed to be replaced as well. All this parking lot needed were a few tumble weeds and it would totally look abandoned. I parked the car, and walked up to one of the doors to check the hours. Being as they werent clearly posted, i walked back to the car to tell my mom that they were open, so we both went in. Upon walking in, all the tables had some sort of garbage on them. Seriously… I noticed in the back that there was only 1 person in the kitchen area working. Then this older east indian guy walks out and asks to take our order. We both ordered some combo burger meal with ice cream. We were then asked if we wanted our ice cream right then and there, or if we wanted it last, we asked for it first — good thing we did… . We sat down at one of the only few tables that had no garbage on it, only to find out that it was sticky, like someone had spilled a soda on it. YUK. We sat down with our drinks and ice cream. Within about 5 minutes, a family of 4 walks in and orders, and they also sit down and join in on the waiting game. After about 15 minutes of waiting, my mom and I are both done with our ice cream, and the family of 4 were getting ready to ask for their meal«to go» because of the long wait. I piped up and told them that we were getting ready to do the same thing because we had ordered about 5 minutes before they walked in in. The older gentleman to worked here at the time walks out from the back/kitchen area, and the mother of the other party flags him down and asks how much longer and if she could get it to go, to which he told her(in so many words) «…you can get it to go if you want, but your order will be out shortly…» About 5 minutes later, and for a total of almost 30 minutes of waiting(and only 6 people in the dining area, for a total of only 2 orders), my mom and I(and the family of 4) FINALLY get our food… it was OK at best. What the hell took so damn long any way? isn’t this place supposed to be a «fast food» restaurant? I don’t think these people know… someone should tell them. If I wanted the whole«Sit down restaurant» experience, I would’ve gone somewhere else… like Denny’s. Oh, and dont use the restroom unless its an absolute emergency too… the sink was backed up here and the restroom was hella dirty. Yuk. I’m never coming back. Unless the management has changed, which, based on the 5 star reviews I;m willing to bet.

I had been going to fosters freeze for years, than I had kids and couldn’t go anymore. I had to go today while my car was being worked on. As it was over 90 degrees out, I ordered my kids ice cream. The woman working behind the counter wisely offered to not give the ice cream until later. Who does that?!? That was awesome! My kids were able to eat their food and have their ice cream after they ate. People aren’t wise enough to do that nowadays. I know the food is fried and is full of a million and one calories, but on a hot day, it was the place to be!

Absolute perfection! My wife and I drive here once a week from Morgan Hill. We’ve never had anything but great food and friendly service. There is no better burger… period. The family who owns/runs it are super friendly too! There are plenty of burger places closer to our house… but it’s worth the trip to Gilroy EVERY time! Oh, did I mention they sell soft-serve?! Try it, you’ll be glad you did! ps: while we’re sitting there enjoying ourselves, we always notice the long line of cars in the drive-thru at Jack In The Box across the street. People… get out of your cars!!! You’re missing out!

This place is pretty strange. An Indian family runs this place and I don’t know if they just bought it, or bought it a while ago and realized why did I buy it? After my profound look and chuckle at the manager I realized they are a very nice people trying to make it work. I’m not all exactly sure with what’s going on, but this place needs some sprucing up, some paint, new lights and I think people will come. The ice-cream was good. We were in Gilroy and there aren’t that many options down there that stay late. Cheap prices, good ice cream, I would go back. I kind of call this MA and PA because it’s family owned. so I can’t give my usual rant I have about chains.

Lets start with the good. Tasty ice cream desserts and burgers. They’re open pretty late for a place you have to walk in to so that’s a bonus also. The bad, the place looks closed always could use major updating. Doesn’t have a drive through. Also doesn’t serve breakfast, which the one in hollister does, all day too. I’ll go here for dessert but not much else usually because I’ve already eaten. I can’t really comment on the food although the fries my friend got did smell really tasty

What can I say, I’m a sucker for a good soft serve, especially the vanilla/chocolate. The kids love it too, especially the sprinkles sundae. Unfortunately, the place needs a good HVAC specialist to fix the air conditioner — it can get a little warm in there.

I’m a sucker for the rootbeer smoothie here. Its the best. The place needs to be tore down & rebuilt. I’d recommend a drive thru.

The place is a little dated, but the ice cream, chilli dogs, and corn dogs really hits the spot after hours of shopping at near by Gilroy Outlet Shopping Center.

I’ve been coming to this Fosters for years, and always enjoy their«Big Boss» burger and shakes. The food is incredibly delicious, and parking is pretty hassle-free. This establishment has existed as long as I can remember, and that is at least 40 years ago! The only item that keeps this place from being a 5-star is that sometimes the place gets rather dirty and tables can be sticky, and not wiped down. Also, if they are really busy, I will get my order to go since the waits can be rather lengthy.

This place gives me memories of my jr. high days at South Valley Junior High School. Where we’d walk here before or after track practice and scrape up loose change for vanilla dipped cones in chocolate or some other sort of cold dessert. This place reminded me of the A&W & Orange Julius at Eastridge Mall back in the day that I used to go to when I used to walk to Eastridge Mall as a young adolescent back in the mid-90s.

Didn’t even know this place existed until a friend asked me to pick up something from here. Love their extensive menu!(its at least twice as large as the menu for other fast food joints) The interior looks like something from a different era because they have old fashioned posters of the menu items. Friend likes their«Big Boss» burger. I normally get the fish and chips meal or the chicken burger.
