What a great local auto shop! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They squeezed me in for a last minute inspection and oil change before a long road trip to Cali.
No high pressure sales, just honest recommendations. (Very refreshing!)
They even gave me a ride home to wait for the work to be done! (So nice)
They did a thorough job, for the quoted cost (no hidden charges), and their rates are very reasonable!
I have a 8 year old car, and had always used the dealer for everything. I am so glad I found a great local alternative!

I brought a mid 2000 VW for a fluid leak.
In 2 days they checked for oil leak with UV dye, found a transmission leak. Changed the transmission filter, gasket, fluid with flush, for a reasonable price.
Good location near highway and downtown. Had key drop off.
personable, educational, did not seem to want to upsell me, performed competent work, leak seems to be gone, and car shifts (literally) like new.
Summary:. I will absolutely use again.

Ours vehicles have been maintained & repaired by Mackert Automotives for 16 years. The service has always been beyond 100% (from the front office through the mechanics). Honesty, reasonable prices, & top-​notch mechanical work are just a few descriptives that match Mackert Automotives. The environment is always pleasant & I feel like a «friend», not a customer when I go there! There’s something to be said for seeing so many of the same faces at Mackerts for 16 yrs.(i.e. Happy Employees). I wouldn’t go elsewhere even if I moved across town! I even put Mackert on my «speed dial» because that’s who I would call first if I had vehicle issues on the road (and I have!). I’ve even asked their opinions before purchasing a new car. Really can’t say enough good things about this company.

i’ve never been to a better mechanic! From customer service to maintenance and troubleshooting, they are conscientious, honest and fair. Don’t look for things to fix and believe me, I put my trust in them to tell me what was wrong. They found the single problem with my 1999 Jeep and did my maintenance without telling me I need a million other things. Absolutely recommend them!

Howard states proudly that his principle is that he may not be the cheapest in town, but he will not charge you for what does not need to be done. I feel I have total trust in his service… He is highly knowledgeable about vehicles and will work with you and your budget, only insisting on fixing what needs to be done AT THAT TIME. This really helped us out when we had unexpected repairs on a car last year totaling $ 900. He broke that down for us and let us know what was most urgent to be fixed. He offers free (no strings attached) and highly informative Car Clinics for some women and others those who feel car mechanics are not «their thing.» And talk about customer service? It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen a staff that was this professional, courteous and friendly. I feel a sense of team work there. We may go elsewhere when it’s something small we need done, but it’s really nice to know that when we really need someone for the bigger problems we can trust in a pinch, we also will know who to go to!

I took my XC90 in because it had a terrible «clunk» coming from the rear right. I had taken it to another mechanic in Gig Harbor, and after several attempts he couldn’t solve the issue (and thus didn’t charge me, keeping me loyal).
I then took it to Volvo of Tacoma (read my reviews on this place) and they told me it was «nothing» and for $ 525 they could put a spring isolator on to «muffle the sound.»
So I took it to Mackert after running into an employee at another store. In one day they had identified and fixed the issue.
Great customer service, fantastic techs, good prices.
I’m staying loyal to my other mechanic for most basic repairs, but these guys have my business for all major issues.

I was looking into buying a truck from Gig Harbor Motor Company (a review I’ll post here in a second) and saw that this place was well reviewed on some other sites and went for it. All I was looking for was a pre-​purchase inspection on the truck. I was informed on the phone that this was a free service, which made me happy. When I got there the staff was friendly and professional. I sat and waited while they inspected the truck and gave me the verdict; as promised, there was no charge.
Sitting in the waiting room gave me a good perspective on their customer service. It seemed like everyone coming in was a repeat customer and was treated well. I took it as extra evidence that the shop was trustworthy.
If they were closer to me I would use them for all of my auto maintenance. Unfortunately it’s about an hour and fifteen minute drive. If I ever break down in Gig Harbor, though, I know where to go.
