Jack’s just keeps the small town diner atmosphere going — daily meat &2 specials, salads, and sandwiches. Stopped by recently, grabbed a Hot Dog, Cheeseburger, Tots, and an order of Onion Rings. The hot dog was solid, as always, and so was the burger. The tater tots were pretty good, though a little under cooked. The onion rings were very average. Service was excellent.

Always feels like home when I visit. Food is fast and good. Everyone knows everyone because of the small town. It’s been around for over 50 years and I hope it stays for many more. Always a good treat for dinner or desert. Try the hot fudge cake!!!

Nice little local joint. It was interesting to me to see that Torry Holt was from Gibsonville as well. They have some memorabilia hanging on the walls. The prices are pretty decent. I’ve only been there on Mondays when they have their dollar hot dog night. Service could be a little better but I’m not really one to complain about that all that much. I’m sure this little local joint is a staple in the small community of Gibsonville.

I have been to Jack’s off and on for the past 14 years as it is near my workplace. It is in the ever so booming metropolis of downtown Gibsonville. It is tiny. They have 5 booths and a «bar» on the dine in side. The other side is a take-out area. Both are hopping at lunch and have been every time I have come here. The décor is everything Gibsonville. They have pictures of Torry and Terrence Holt with their beginnings and accolades. You can add Kay Yow to that too. Most of the décor, however, is about the town of Gibsonville itself. Plenty of pictures of the original Gibsonville Elementary(when kids actually sat in desks and were still), and how the restaurant started in the 1950s. It has a small town feel. People walk in and immediately know someone there. I have worked in the area long enough to where I recognize people and vice versa. And I am not a native. It is quintessential small town everything. The best thing about this place is the service. Some of the friendliest people on the planet work here. These people are quick when something is needed. A person at our table today spilled their tea and someone swooped in with towels and a mop in about 3 seconds. Literally. I am not sure why this place has the term«barbecue» in its name as it is more of a grill than the latter. The food is solid. They are known for their hotdogs and cheeseburgers. They are simple and excellent. They also have the best onion rings I have tasted. The breading on these is excellent. They fry them up nicely and no grease is left on them. The tater tots are similar and just as good. The chili on the dogs and burgers is great as well. There were a lot of makeshift signs that they now offer milkshakes. They do have daily specials and today was meatloaf. I have never ordered from this. The prices of all items are not listed on the menu. I have never understood why but no one seems to care as evident with the amount of people that come here for lunch. The group I was with today had someone generous enough to pay for the entire table, so I can’t begin to talk about price. It can’t be that much however. Someone mentioned on another review if they took cards or not. Yes they do. Great place to stop in for a hot dog or cheeseburger. The chili is excellent as well as the onion rings and tater tots. Throw in great service and friendly people with a small town atmosphere and this place is pretty damn good.

This review based on just one lunch visit(7÷11÷12). PROS: –Solid, down-home diner –Well prepared food –Friendly service if you’re recognized CONS: –Prices not quoted on menu –May be Cash Only(need to verify) –Hours: Lunch & Dinner only, close by 7pm, closed on Sundays LOCATION: Right on Main Street in Gibsonville, NC. Parking is both a share lot with a convenience store and the street. FOOD: Cutting to the chase, the«Barbeque» part of the name is mostly a misnomer. On a 30-ish item menu only about 3 or 4 are truly barbeque. Apparently, it has been around since the 60’s so maybe back in the day things were different. Having said that, I lucked into BBQ Brisket as one of the lunch specials! More on that later. The primary menu breakouts are Sandwiches(15+ burgers, chicken and hot dogs) and the Daily Specials. A few salads and a Soup Of The Day are available as well as the handful of barbeque plates. A good number of sides rounds out the offerings. They claim their specialty is the«Jack’s Big Boy» burger which is a ¼ lb job with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, mayo and mustard. I didn’t try it but that doesn’t really jump off the page as some kind of super-burger to me. Shrug. The special board outside listed Pork Chops w/White Pepper Gravy(the Wednesday standard) and the BBQ Beef Brisket. As far as I can tell, the brisket is not a regular item so that is what I ordered. I will have to say I was impressed with it. I haven’t had much luck with beef brisket in NC but this version was actually quite good. The meat was flavorful and the bbq sauce was exactly how I like it — robust, smoky and peppery. The Daily specials come with either rolls or hush puppies and 2 sides. I choose the fried okra and a plain baked sweet potato. Across the board, I thought all items on my plate were better than average. The okra was perfectly fried, the sweet potato soft and mushy and the hush puppies, though a bit on the sweet side for me, were a good compliment to the bbq sauce. I can’t speak for the entire menu, but for this lunch, 4 stars for Food. SERVICE: This is definitly a local favorite with lots of regulars coming and going. There’s a lot chatter, hugging and friendly banter going back and forth. Unfortunately, I’m not part of that group so I was pretty much left alone in a «you-ain’t-from-around-here-are-ya» kind of way. I sat at the counter and the girl who took my order was obviously bored about having to walk me though my options. The older ladies working were more friendly and polite, however. 2 stars for Service for treating the new kid like, er, the new kid. VALUE: My Brisket Daily Special and Iced Tea was $ 8.48 with tax. Awkwardly, I didn’t have a clue what it was going to cost until I paid because prices are not listed on their menus. I’ve seen that practice in some very high end restaruants but not a little mom and pop joint. Maybe it’s an expense play so they don’t have to create new menus with each price increase. Also, I couldn’t find any evidence that credit cards are taken — no door stickers or visible card-swipe machine so I was doing the double finger cross I had enough cash on me. There is a menu board on the wall but I couldn’t really make it match my menu quickly so I gave up. I «think» the burgers are in the $ 4 — $ 5 range but don’t quote me on that. For a Daily Lunch Special I think 8 bucks is a little steep but for how good my food was and the quantity I’d pay it again. 3 stars for Value. ATMOSPHERE: This is a small space and seating is limited. When I arrived at about 11:45, only one table(of the 5 or so) was available. I took a stool at the counter to save the table for a bigger party. Overall, the place looks like a family owned diner that’s been around for decades — dated but clean. The Sanitation Rating was posted at 97. 3 stars for Atmosphere. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and really enjoyed the beef brisket. I’ll go back I’m sure and try other items(unless they brisket again in which case screw the others!). Food: 8⁄10; Service: 6⁄10; Value: 7⁄10; Atmosphere 6⁄10
