We ate here on a Monday night and I really enjoyed the experience. It had been at least 10 years since I’d eaten here and the atmosphere really brought me back. I think the atmosphere is one of the fun things about the commissary and they haven’t had to change with the times to keep in business. If anything that’s what makes it so special. Our server was very polite and the food was quick. Monday nights is their special for ribs. It comes with slaw, deviled egg, beans and bred. Don’t eat the bred, I’m sure it’s good but there’s just too much food. I’ll defiantly be back soon!

The GTC. Growing up I’ve always shared my parents enthusiasm and zeal for delicious BBQ. For years our«Holy Grail» was always The Germantown Commissary. When asked where was the best BBQ in all of Memphis, we became staunch advocates of The Commissary’s Ribs & pulled pork sandwiches. After I got married I was determined to get my pork-hesitant wife to eat here, if for no other reason than to share with her the culmination — the zenith of what I defined as the world famous, Memphis Barbecue! We happened to have a chance one warm December day this past year for lunch… …And a part of me died inside. All my boasting and promises of undeniable flavor and a beauty any could appreciate, would no longer hold any water. I’m not saying that it was bad, just that it was«fine», and we all know what«fine» means, right? Needless to say, I was crestfallen and so very… Disappointed. I hope to return to the GTC someday, and maybe after some time apart, maybe then will my faith in B-B-Q be restored.

SMOKINGPHENOMENAL! Went to lunch recently at the Commissary and it was beyond great. We started with the homemade BBQ chips. I don’t mind telling you this place has the BEST homemade chips out of all the BBQ joints in town. Great seasoning along with some homemade ranch dressing. I ordered the smoked turkey Boss Man salad. They actually serve this even though the menu only shows pork and chicken as options. It was large and filling. The homemade ranch was outstanding. I will go on record as telling the world in my 46 years this is the best turkey I’ve ever put in my mouth. We had it at thanksgiving and Christmas this year and man that flavor explodes in your mouth. Tonya was our server and she did an exceptional job. She is the one who pointed out the turkey option upon ordering. She was very attentive during the meal, and upon wrapping up she offered a separate box for the remaining chips, an extra ranch for the remaining chips, and she offered to fill our drinks along with a to-go lid for the road. She also had a positive attitude and good work ethic. The food was served quickly and everyone in the place was friendly. I HIGHLY recommend checking this out the next time you’re in the mood for some Cue.

Really good barbecue! Maybe the best in Memphis? I really like the location, but parking is iffy.

Solid BBQ joint. Expect a wait during dinner time. To make your experience worthwhile, check out the stuff I got and what I thought of it. — 3 Tamales Dressed: decent, not a fan of the crust(I would pass on this to save my stomach space; not memorable) — Pork Nachos: this was good(anything with their pork shoulder is good) — great way to start the meal — Cheesy fries: fried lathered with liquid cheese(you can’t go wrong with this but as mentioned before save your stomach space for the true star of the meal) — Any 3 meat: you get to choose between ribs, sausage link, chicken and pork shoulder(aka pulled pork)– love this(must get) — Ribs: not the best I had(I like central BBQ ribs more)– my test for a good slab of ribs is if the meat just falls off the bone… ribs here failed(it’s not as tender as I would’ve liked it) — Smoked sausage link: get this– the smokey flavor is going to hit you once you plop a piece in your mouth — Pork shoulder: must get this! This was the highlight of my meal. The best pulled pork I ever had. It was tender(not melt in your mouth status) and moist. The bbq sauce was perfectly paired with it. — Coconut cream pie: nice way to end your BBQ meal if you can fit dessert Service was kind of slow here. The meal made it worthwhile. I’m sure I’ll be back.
