Great night with friends! OK food but great drink prices! The atmosphere is small so it’s easy to pack out. The music was diverse and a good mix. I would go back.

Nice people, burgers looked good, sat and watched my husband and son eat, chicken tikka took too long, left without getting. Would have been nice if they had disclosed the length of time.

New menu is awesome, so far. The Texas Cheesesteak was fantastic. Sometimes the music can be loud, but we really haven’t had a bad meal. The staff is friendly and there are lots of regulars that sometimes take up the staffs’ time. We will continue to frequent as it is close to our home and the food and drinks are great.

I had the burger/Fries. I don’t like to give bad reviews but wasn’t all that good. Service was kinda slow even though I sat at the Bar. Seems like the staff is more interested in talking to their favorites or regulars. Interior does look better from the last time I was in there

My wife and I ate there for the first time. It took too long to get service. The servers were friendly but slowand very unorganized. We started with cheese sticks which were tasty. We both asked for sweet tea and it was served in very small mason jars. No sweeter was on any of the tables and the server struggled to find any. She finally found only sweet-n-low … my least favorite option. I ordered the French Dip sandwich which wasn’t very good. My wife enjoyed her Cobb salad. The staff were very disorganized. There are many simple changes they should consider to improve efficiency. 1. Make smaller menus and leave them at the table so you customer has something to do whole they wait to be greeted. Use a menu holder like at Texas Road House. 2. Have sweetner at every table or serve tea already sweetened. 3. Have catchup at each table. I observed one server/manager go to the kitchen 3 times to get ketchup for a guest. 4. Salt and Pepper shakers weren’t on every table… including ours. 5. Put away some of the junk, like the can of Raid. That’s not what I want to notice before I eat. Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend this pub or return for another visit. .unless the manager/owner makes some easy adjustments and asks me for another try. or even wants to discuss my observations. Anyway, they seem friendly but could use some efficiency tweaks.

Have only been in the place once(so can’t quite justify 5 starts yet), but so impressed with the food quality, available beers and the staff that we will most definitely be back. Like to support small business, especially ones in the downtown Garland area.

Very disappointed in this place after reading mostly good reviews. Horrible service. Waitress was more concerned with her table of friends and checked on us maybe twice. Husband tried to get her attention once and she ignored it… finally had to walk over to her at the soda dispenser to get the check. Chips and salsa were okay… not the best, but edible. Canned beer was moderately cold. The food. Oh the food… We both got burgers and both were swimming in grease. The bottoms buns were mushy and soaked through. There was a puddle left on the plate. Meat was over seasoned. My guess was some Worcester and Montréal steak seasoning. Fries were from a bag and jazzed up with some spices– so kinda hard to mess that up. Music was good– but loud. It’s a tiny space, should have been turned down. Would have probably enjoyed them in a different setting though. Definitely wouldn’t return. Such a shame.

If you like the sort of place where the staff seems to know half of the other customers personally, then this is it. Sometimes the service is a little slow but everyone is very friendly and personable. They only have a few craft beers on tap(including my beloved Lakewood Temptress), but the food is mostly pretty generic bar food: burgers, wings, fish & chips, etc. The location, just off the square in old downtown Garland, is great. I go every few weeks when working from the library or coffee shop nearby and enjoy the burgers.

Service was good. My husband and I had the jalapeño burger. Fabulous!!! I asked for a side of reach for my fries and it was not your typical bottle ranch, it was made from scratch. Amazing! They also had Lakewood Temptress on draft. Must visit again, must frequent.

Music is good(Tom Loris), service is good if you get a good server! The locals are friendly and the food is good. Order before the grill closes though.

Ate there for lunch for the first time yesterday. The atmosphere is nice. Servers are friendly. However, the food was a bit greasy and took longer than would be desirable for a lunch hour. This wouldn’t be a problem for dinner, but when you only have so long to eat for lunch it becomes an issue. I had the fish and chips. It tasted ok, but like I said before was greasy. It was apparent the food was cooked to order as it was fresh out of the fryer when it was brought to the table(steaming hot). The prices were extremely reasonable in comparison to other similar places. I don’t think I would do lunch here again, but I’d be curious to try a dinner service and see the difference.

Awesome place! Love the atmosphere and really friendly staff and delicious food! My boyfriend and I went for lunch and he had the Ella’s French Dip which he said was delicious! And I had the jalapeño burger which was AMAZING. The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked just right and the cheese and fried jalapeños were the perfect combination. Great food and great place!

Visited this nice little place today due to the great reviews its been getting. Certainly was worth the trip. Staff is friendly, met the chef and had a very lively conversation about the menu and food in general. Tried the buffalo shrimp, absolutely delicious(havent ever had shrimp like this before and it works great) next time gonna try it lettuce tomato po-boy sandwich. Texas cheesesteak was great as well, onion rings are definitely a cut above what you usually get at most places(battered lightly and flaky) raspberry and cheesecake torte was just the right amount of light and heavy for a dessert for me. will definitely be back.

The change from Salvage Grill to State Street is positive, had the Cobb salad which was good, but strictly speaking wasn’t a true Cobb salad. The ranch dressing tastes homemade so that is a plus to me. My partner had the burger and she declared that it was very good. The nacho’s delivered to another table looked so good, I want to try them on my next visit. Service is my only complaint, it was a problem at Salvage and continues to be a problem at State Street. Maybe when business picks up they can hire and keep a better level of server. I’m going to admit a pet peeve here, please teach your servers to keep their commentary(ie) «Well, I guess you really liked that» or «Wow, you must have been hungry», to themselves. It’s a common failing of wait staff, and a common pet peeve of diners.

Recently opened pub that replaced Salvage Bar! Very good burgers, fish and chips and Philly Cheesesteak! Owners seem dedicated to maintaining regular hours which would be a big improvement over previous tenants! Great crowds the three times I’ve been there! Good atmosphere for sporting events! Glad these people came to downtown Garland. Full bar, good selection of beer much needed!

UPDATESBELOW… I’m bumping them up a star and hoping they can keep it consistent! This space used to house the Salvage Pub & Grill, but it changed hands and names last month. Along with the new owners, there are some upgrades. First off, there is a FULLBAR, and more beer on tap — including Lakewood’s Temptress and Hop Trap, and a couple of Franconia brews. A few other changes in décor help the place feel more like a bar, and improve sight lines to the TVs. The biggest change should be the new, consistent hours. They will now be open 7 days a week, and close at midnight most nights. Big thumbs up for this! The menu appears to be mostly the same, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The first time I went, I tried a burger. It was overcooked, but well-seasoned and meatier than the last one I had from Salvage. On my return trip, I ordered the fish tacos. The fish was good, cilantro and onions were served on the side with salsa, and the house avocado cream sauce was very good(as was the salsa). However, the tortillas were cold and meh — there’s room for easy improvement there. UPDATE: I went back to give the burger another shot, and it was MUCH better! It was juicy and cooked to order this time. I’ll go back soon to explore more of the menu. Unfortunately, service is a bit of a problem. On my first visit the service was friendly, but a little clunky, as the waitress was still learning the new POS system. In her defense, the lunch crowd was bigger than I had seen there in a long time. The second time around, service was painfully slow, and the place wasn’t nearly as busy. I noticed several orders that got mixed up and had to go back, and the waitress spent a LOT of time trying to sort out tickets and void items on the POS. That being said, my tea never went empty, and she kept me updated. I wasn’t in a hurry, the food was good, and I left happy. I don’t know if the weak link is the POS, the kitchen, staff, or just plain old communication, but this is something they will need to get sorted out ASAP. Both times, one waitress was working both the bar and the floor, so they may just need another server to share the load. UPDATE: Since my first review, the service has come around. The server was much more organized and knew the POS like the back of his hand. Very friendly and professional. That being said, I like this place. I want it to thrive. The problems I experienced seem to be very manageable. The people are friendly, the food is almost great, and the space can’t be beat. With all of the other things in the pipeline for the Garland square, this place has the potential to be something of a cornerstone.
