Well, this review is not really about food but rather service — since they never brought food to us. After giving us our beverages, out waitress took another 15 minutes to take our order. That should’ve been our first sign. After taking our order, our waitress never visited our table again. At about the 1 hour mark(yes I know we shouldn’t have waited so long) I finally stopped the waitress and asked how much longer longer until food is ready. She explained that they had a kitchen emergency and that it «won’t be any time soon.» She did apologize, but she could’ve told us at any time how badly they were running behind. Furthermore, there were discarded napkins and food underneath some of the tables. Yet people were still moving slow around the restaurant. We won’t be going back.

I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you are an old white person. The food seems pretty greasy and bland. I like diners as well as the next person but I can’t recommend this even for the kitsch factor.

Drove by and decided to try this place. I got a burger. The meat was very bland with what looked and tasted like an entire bottle of mayo slapped on top of it. they didn’t even bother to toast my bun! Not impressed and will not be returning.

Dirty, dirty carpets. Food is good but have to wonder if it the kitchen is clean. Dark & gloomy all tthe time feels like they are growing mushrooms. Do have both smoking and non areas. Wait staff is usually pretty good but lots of drama…

Average at best — 1 star because they still have a smoking section. In this day and age? Whole place stinks of cigarette smoke. Service not much to speak of either. Highly overrated. You are forewarned!

This place is not the cleanest but I have been going there since I was about 5. Wait staff not good but today took the cake. Waitress wear a pink duck dynasty shit was not a waitress at all had her service us a couple of times but nothing compared to today. We sat down she came over and got the dish that everyone shares for their baked potatoes and did not ask what do you want to drink nor I will be right back. Sat there another 15 mins and nothing so we got and left. SERVICESUCKS! !!! I would not even give this a one but it is making me

This place is a real neighborhood staple in Garland. You walk in and have choice of smoking or nonsmoking section before you choose a seat and are greeted by one of their fast and long time waitresses. I always get the Goldmine Special of eggs, meat, hash browns, and biscuits and gravy. The biscuits are huge as are the pancakes. Definitely recommend for a good price and good portions.

The gold mine located in central garland is an Old times special kind of establishment. The location has noticeable deteriorated in the 40+ years it has been there… Booths are wore out, smoke stained walls, and crabby service. Food: Bacon and Sausage were good, but nothing crazy to write home about. Eggs were standard, but the Hashbrowns had no crisp, and were slightly soggy. Service was Poor and Slow… They say they have biscuits… But they are more of a Roll then biscuit. Price: Only thing going for them… So I thought… Menu says 5.15 for 2 eggs, meat, potato, choice of toast or biscuit… getting bill and its 6.15…Host was to busy on her cell phone to engage with customers.

The Gold Mine Café used to be a wonderful middle class dive, a solid 3 — 3.5 star café, that the typical middle-class person would appreciate. I’m not sure what happened but the food quality went downhill in the past 5 years or so. The service has remained a strong 3+ as is typical with most hole-in-the-wall places like this, but the kitchen has fallen off. Some of the standards(like the standard greasy burger) have remained consistent, but others like the CFS have just dropped off the map.

We always drive past this establishment — usually lots of cars. We came here for lunch this weekend. Really divey interior, but clean. Seat yourself(smoking on one side, non-smoking on the other side. Extensive menu — very reasonable prices. One downside — we waited 30 minutes for our order once it was placed(fried pork chops/bacon cheeseburger) — this amount of time is excessive but the portions are huge and the food is pretty good. The restrooms are clean but in dire need of upkeep/repair/painting…if you have time to kill and don’t mind waiting an above average processing time for your food, the value for your food is then very good.

Best diner. Grease piled just right. Good homey feeling. Family atmosphere. Hefty portions. Got burger and tots with onion rings. The tots were amazing and the burger was juicy and cooked just right. Left over stuffed and the price was unbeatable. Cheaper than McDonalds and a whole lot better.

This place is not the cleanest and definitely needs a facelift to the interior, but the food is solid and relatively cheap for what you get. The lunch special Chicken Fried Steak is a good portion but perhaps a little too much breading for the amount of meat that is encompassed by it. The Cheeseburger is solid as far a burgers go and the Tots that you can get are also excellent. There are other good items on the menu. Don’t be put off by the condition of the booths or what have you. For cheap eats and a full belly, this is a good bet!

This is a pretty solid dive to visit. We ate here a few times because Goldmine used run discounts through . No matter what we ordered or when, the food was always hot, good, and served in generous portions. The best suggestion I can give to someone trying this restaurant out is the(Texas?) chicken salad. The salad, only about $ 7, filled an entire to go container and was loaded with chicken and other delightful veggies. We also loved anything fried there, including the chicken fried steak, but people need to realize that the batter is homemade. One reviewer complains that the he needed to add salt. Good. I would rather have to add salt than feel like I am being poisoned when eating dinner. The fries are also delicious and usually golden brown. The only bad thing about this place is that it is not in the greatest of neighborhoods and is a little off the grid. I have no eaten there since they stopped working with – not because the food is not delicious and priced very fairly, but, in all honesty, the drive is too long for me without it being an absolute steal. This would be a staple if it were closer to home.

If you are an older, regular and this is your hangout and home away from home, there is no problem. For our table of non-regulars, there were big problems. First of all, the stinch of cigarettes hits you about two steps from the door and the air inside is smokey/stale leaving your clothing and hair drenched in smoke. From order to when food arrived, we waited one hour…60 minutes! No exaggeration! The regulars got their food and left before our table was served. The food was ok… hash brown shingle was long cold, eggs had a pool of water on them and were thick. The smoked sausage was delicious as was the huge, flakey biscuit. The restroom was a smelly nightmare, which makes you wonder what the kitchen is like at night. If you’re a regular, enjoy your hangout… for everyone else, avoid like the plague!

When you want the old classic local dinner/greasy spoon experience, go to Goldmine. I had breakfast there and it was great. The bacon strips were huge and cooked extra crispy. The eggs were, well eggs, but still good. Sausage was a little spicy and the coffee was flowing. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I never had to ask for a coffee refill and I rarely got my cup below the halfway point before they came back to reload the java. The atmosphere is from decades past. They still smoke at the goldmine, but I sat far in the other side so it didn’t bother me. This is the kind of place you expect smoke. It looks like people should smoke there. The smoking section was packed with seniors drinking coffee between hits off their Marlboros. The interior is showing signs of age, but again, it works. That’s what I wanted. A friendly local place run by real people, and that’s what the goldmine delivers.

There breakfast is good in the morning for 6 $ But the service is medium to fast depending on the hours or how busy they are. The menu is pretty good I had almost everything. Yes the place is worn out but the food is good. That is what you pay for, the food is cheap an very good. Service 4 of 5 Food 5 of 5 Cleanliness 5 of 5 Atmosphere 2 of 5 — just because the building is worn out doesn’t mean its dirty.

Is this place going to change your world view or give you multiple foodgasms? Probably not-but you will get a good filling meal at a very reasonable price. The family goes here once or twice a month and we always leave full and happy. The kids normally have burgers and find them to be quite good. They have sampled every burger they have to offer and the chili bacon and bacon cheeseburger are the big winners. I like to go on Saturdays and order the all you can eat catfish. I can usually only get through two plates because they bring ridiculous amounts out with each serving. The wife loves the chicken fried chicken. The fried pickles are the winner for appetizers. The fried mushrooms were also good-but not as lip smacking as the pickles. The serving portions here are very generous and usually feed us the next day as well. Prices are very reasonable-especially because they take certificates. The waitress are always greasy spoon friendly and they remember you after only a couple of visits. I profess a love for places where the waitstaff calls me sweetie or hun and it seems the most natural thing in the world for them. Hope to see you soon– we’ll be in the corner booth.

Food is good for it’s price, buddy of mine got the pork chops and it was only $ 6 for a load of food. I got the breakfast burrito with egg whites and sausage which was freshly made and came out in a timely manner. Do keep in mind, this is more of classic diner that has the smoking and non smoking sections so be aware of that if smoking in a restaurant bothers you or not.
