We visited here about a year ago and were very pleased with the variety of organic and native Texas plants. We purchased many lantanas, agaves, yuccas. Customer service was great… a year ago. We wanted to visit again, so I called to confirm they were open on a Sunday and a rude lady stated«why wouldn’t we be? Our inventory IS alive» in such a snarky tone. We chose not to visit that day, but visited a few weeks later. I’m assuming the same lady was working, because she was incredibly unhelpful and provided no greeting or offer of assistance. After about an hour of perusing for plants, we checked out our few overpriced items. My children excitedly notice the small wind chimes, and gently and with my guidance, tested their sounds. The lady loudly stated«you know, they’re all tested to make sure they work» with the smuggest face ever. She was also incredibly rude when asking how much a pot was. I even signed up for Unilocal just to write a review on how dissatisfied with their service we were. We will NOT return, nor will we recommend this once charming little organic nursery. Not to mention, the large rude lady behind the counter couldn’t even be bothered to wear shoes

This place has stuff you won’t find anywhere else, the people who work there are not plant care experts, but the know some, i like them most for variety, but when it comes to finding well cared for plants with enough dirt and labeling and insect repel, they can improve there. In some cases, you have to really know what your looking for, they have great quality organic soils, fertilizers, and treatments, reasonbly priced as well. It’s relaxing to forget about responsibilities for a while, browse through their quiet relaxing atmosmere, and buy some plants. unfortunatly there is one staff there who can be rude, I do agree with the other reviews on that.

They may have native plants but they can be VERYRUDETOCUSTOMERS! I called to ask about ordering some plants and the woman on the other end spoke in a condescending tone about every plant I requested. I finally had to tell her that one of HER employees had told me to call and find out about when a plant would be available. At that, she spoke a little more politely, but not much. When I went to look at the plant, one of the men in the check out area remarked, «You sure are tall for a woman! Did you use that much? I mean did you play basketball?» The last time anyone was that rude was a prepubescent boy in middle school! Take a guy along if you must go. Warning: rudeness, especially to women, spoke here.

I don’t live in Dallas and am wholly unfamiliar with the area’s native wildflowers but for Christmas I decided to get my sister-in-law, born and raised in Dallas, a native shrub that attracts honeybees. I found this nursery online and stopped by just two days before Christmas with absolutely no idea of what I was looking for. I went inside and was met at the counter by a cheery woman who asked if I needed help with anything. I told her that I had no idea what I wanted but that I hoped to find a native, flowering plant that attracts honeybees and is resistant to the cold. We went outside and she pointed out all sorts of plants: small and large, full sun and part shade, spring bloomers and fall bloomers, and everything in-between. She knew all about the plants and the growing seasons and gave me tips on planting in the cold whether. She was very helpful and didn’t treat me differently even though I don’t know much about this area’s plants. With her, there was no such thing as a stupid question and I have a lot of respect for that. She left me to look around a bit more and when I was finished my purchase was completed with an equally cheery man at the counter. I was able to find the perfect gift for my sister-in-law. And I even picked out a pretty pot for it since the prices were so reasonable. It was a great experience and I will recommend them to friends and family in the area.

Although Greg and the two sea cows that work in the office with him are some of the rudest business owners I have ever met, the other employees are always super helpful and friendly. Plus, they have a better xeriscape collection than most. Stars removed from score because of consistent rudeness and Rohde’s refusal to honor their guarantee. We purchased three Nellie Stevens hollies from them and paid extra for them to be guaranteed. One of the trees went downhill right off the bat. We called Rohde’s to see what we could do to save the tree. The employee they sent said the tree wasn’t getting enough water despite being in the same environment as the other two trees, which were doing fine. I told the guy the issue wasn’t water, but he insisted it was. We gave the tree more water for several weeks and nothing helped. We called them back and never could get anyone to come back out and tell us what the tree needed and it died. Rohde’s refused to honor their guarantee and replace the tree. There are too many places online that I can order xeriscape plants from to put up with being treated like crap and ripped off by these people. It’s a shame, too, because I have met some of the most helpful and nicest people working there other than the people in the office and they have some pretty cool plants to boot. I try to support independent businesses but not when I get treated like this.

Great plants and compost here but the staff is usually rude and socially awkward which makes the whole experience a little uncomfortable. Love that they have antique roses brought in from the antique rose emporium down in Brenham, Tx. And the Goodwin creek gray lavender I buy from here grows like crazy in my garden– just wish they were a little more customer friendly.

I called to find out where they were located and the woman that answered the phone was extremely rude and unprofessional then I showed up to buy dog food exactly at 5:30 and apparently they close at 5:30 and the rude lady that answered the phone failed to tell me that. They were leaving the building at 5:30 which means they started closing before 5:30. You would think a small company would provide better service. Back to Pet supplies plus for my dog food and a nursery with better customer service for my landscaping needs.

If u can find Greg Rhode himself, do it. The guy is impressively knowledgeable about plants and soil. They have really decent prices, great products, adequate help. To me it is worth the drive. My go to place when I have a problem with soil, plants, etc, and my go to with needing mulch.

We discovered Rohde’s Nursery and Nature Store quite by accident as we were staying at the Days Inn across the street, went to turn around from the parking lot of the giant Daisy Sour Cream plant and saw this. We had to go in out of curiosity. As it turns out, they told us some crazy statistic like they are the oldest running organic gardening store in Texas. And I can attest that they are doing it quite well, as I found an extremely rare organic and heirloom Great White tomato plant. A very healthy plant that survived a 6 hour long car trip and into my garden. The selection of plants and trees are massive and just walking around in here is very relaxing. Inside the store we found the best selection of premium pet foods that I have ever seen anywhere in Texas. Local natural foods with exceptional price to quality ratios. Our cat was quite pleased with what we brought back for him as well. Oh how I wish this store were only closer to where we live. It’s a true gem.

I woke up the other morning and decided that I wanted a garden. In this bad economy it cannot hurt to be self sufficient. There will be bell peppers, squash, potatoes, cilantro, and basil. Wonderful in theory, but did I mention that I have never planted a garden, have no tools to do so, and have no idea where to start. So the hubby was put in charge of the garden, ordered some seeds, and then stared at me waiting for further instructions. I was advised by a coworker to go see Rohde’s. Well I did, I left with compost, fertilizer, lava sand, and an assortment of various other things that I need to plant my garden. The lady there was incredibly helpful telling us exactly what we would need to make our garden work, and suggesting a low maintenance tree for me to plant in the front yard. I bought 5 bags of assorted gardening composts, etc and a tree all for about 80.00. I spent more at Lowe’s on the garden tools than I did at Rohde’s. I left happy and I can’t wait until my garden begins to bloom.
