I too am surprised by the low ratings for this location. My family has been coming here for decades (literally) and we have never ONCE had a bad experience. The staff is friendly, the food is great and prices aren’t bad. We recently ordered fajitas for 40 (honestly enough food for 80) and they gave us a bunch of extras including queso, guacamole, etc. I hope this place stays in business for years to come!

I have been going to this location for 30+ years. I do realize the building is old and the atmosphere isn’t new, but the service is second to none. I have never had a bad meal here. The enchiladas, fajitas, beans, margaritas… everything, has always been good.
Still free warm tortillas served with the meal as well as great salsa and chips.
I do go to a lot of other Mexican restaurants, so I haven’t been sheltered with only «this» one. Just sayin’

El chicos has good food an atmospher.
But this location is a bad location.

7 friends an I went here for the lunch
4 of us got chicken an 3 got beef.
Next day…
Everyone who are chicken has been food poisoned.
This is the 4th time.
All 6 – 7 of us has been there 4 times this last year an we have been food poisoned by the chicken.
An nothing has been changed to fix this.
The location in mesquite we have had no problems with raw chicken or uncooked chicken.
This location is not good.

El Chico is a sad excuse for Mexican food sorry but I had to be the first to say it. The food is bland, plain, and stale. And the buildings definitely need renovations. Maybe back in its day it was eatable but the owners and managers have given up and it reflects in the food and atmosphere

I love El Chico Restaurants. My mother and I don’t get to go as often as we would like, but when we get the chance to go to lunch together this location is generally our first choice.
I have never been disappointed in the food. During our last visit we thought we would have a small complaint when my mother had ordered a Bloody Mary and was told they were out of mix. We ordered our food and both had settled for water to drink when our waitress told us that the manager was on her way back from picking up some mix to make a Bloody Mary especially for my mother.
That is what I call first rate service!

I have been eating at El Chico in Dallas for nearly 60 years! I can remember when the Wednesday night enchilada dinner special was 95 cents! Everything here is good, even the burgers and fries for the kids (until they develop their own love for Tex-​Mex). I love everything on the menu, especially the nachos, fajitas, special combo dinners, enchiladas, etc. Be sure you ask for some complimentary hot tortillas — flour and corn — to go with your meal. There are many locations around Dallas and locations in half a dozen southeast states. Find one near you and experience true Tex-​Mex dating from 1940.
