Eastern Sierra Feed & Farm Supply

I love Eastern Sierra Feed. Everyone who works there has been very helpful. I am a new horse person, and Andi was especially helpful. They have lots of merchandise for all types of pets. I also have cats and dogs. I definitely recommend this place.

I have been treated much nicer here than at that place on Industrial Way where They either ignore me completely while they chat for 15 minutes with their more regular clients or they are surly and rude… once I swore never to go there again… however, I did (no spine) and that time was treated extremely well, even though I am not a big spender or a rancher who has had property here since 1840, so I guess it is best not to judge anybody… anybody can have a bad day, and I prefer a surly guy to one of those people at the grocery store who the corporation forces to be nice to me and it is totally fake. So I will keep patronizing both places and hope they do well. I wonder if it is a feed store thing… being surly. Probably they just got bucked off a horse or something awful.

Great place! I’ve had livestock my whole life and have given my money to many a feed store and this is absolutely the best I’ve been too. I love their selection of healthy grain-​free dog food. Oh and they are open on Sundays. What a concept! BEST feed store in Gardnerville hands down.

I stopped in here for the first time in years and liked the new layout. They had exactly what I needed for my birds and even tossed in a treat for my dog.

I’m sorry to hear about Gary’s experiences here — sounds like it’s been awful. Surprisingly, our experience has been very, very good — even with the owner. The employees have been friendly and helpful, too. In general we really like this place.
For example, last year I was looking for some slippers for a gift, and (surprisingly) Eastern Sierra Feed was just about the only place I’d been able to find them. The owner was incredibly helpful; he explained the different leathers and lining materials (all for this one, small sale). To top it off, their prices were very competitive and actually cheaper than I had seen online. (Note that I’m a local-​shopping kinda guy, but that’s another story.)
Anyway, wouldn’t you know it, the slippers were just too narrow, so I had to return them. They were very pleasant about this and the return was hassle-​free.

I’ve shopped here about twice a month mostly for horse feed and other supplies. They’ve done a nice job with the retail area since moving to this new location several years ago. Generally the experience is fine, nothing extraordinary. There’s a guy, 50’s to 60 that I’ve always tried to avoid when he’s working behind the counter. You know how some people just rub you the wrong way? You’ll know him when you start talking to him. Well it turns out he owns the damn place! Do yourself a favor buster, stay in the back room and let your help deal with the public. You’re like a dull headache that won’t go away. Aloof, pompous, arrogant. Just don’t need to pay you for something and get treated like I’m your step-​child.
I needed propane one afternoon and Mr. Personality was the only one working. Well I discovered he doesn’t know how to operate the pump. Propane was blowing all over, he says I must have a stuck valve on the tank and the genius starts banging my nearly brand new tank on the concrete trying to un-​stick the valve. Let me bang your head on the concrete sometime to see if I can jar loose some common sense. I went down the street and got if filled by someone that knew what they were doing no problem.
I belong to a local service club and one of our members approached him about a donation for our annual fundraiser. (He’s also a customer of Eastern Sierra). On the solicitation flyer, it mentions that our club’s mission is to help «children at risk» then names the groups we support such as Austin’s House, Family Support Council, China Springs, Boy Scouts, ROTC, Aurora Pines, to name a few. Well Mr. Personality decides to give our member the «step-​child» treatment he’s mastered at retail 101 and lectures him about supporting Boy Scouts and ROTC and he would never contribute because of that. Mr. Eastern Sierra I know you think you have the best and newest feed store around, but it an’t doing you any good because you are so personally adept at eroding your customer base.
There’s plenty of other feed stores to choose from where the «owners» treat you like a valued customer. Imagine that. In Gardnerville, go see John Laxague at Laxague’s on Industrial Way. John is a great guy that’s been around forever or in Carson City see Stan or Wendy at S&W Feed on South Carson Street. (See my review of S&W). Both are worthy of your hard earned dollar.
