To get to Rome Furniture go west on Rte. 2 from Concord and it’s an easy drive of about 40 minutes, a few minutes off Rte 2. They have a lot of American-made furniture including a wide selection of upholstered and leather sofas. The contemporary velvet-like material sofa and love seat I bought incredibly came to $ 1,500 for both after a fall promotional sale, including sales tax, and delivery($ 115 for Concord area). Some leather pieces and others are more expensive but what I liked happened to be a really good price. Because the old factory building is large and on four floors you can look at many different sofas and styles. There are also many nicely designed cherry bedroom sets including headboards, bureaus and night stands. They have many dining room and dinette tables and chairs in contemporary, transitional, and traditional styles. They come from manufacturers in Vermont, Pennsylvania, and Canada. Measure your space before coming in and bring the information with you when you visit. The first visit I saw a sofa I liked and I took photos of it with the price tag information and dimensions. I measured out the dimensions of the new sofa at home and was ready to buy it on the second visit with my husband. Buying big pieces like sofas takes a couple of visits to get it right, I think. They have many manufacturer’s fabric swatches to compare to the floor model’s upholstery. The sales people are friendly and could not be more helpful. Visit Gardner and give it a try, and support a local business and U.S. furniture makers while you’re at it.

Visited Rome as we were moving my mom into assisted living. Despite the fact that we came in toward the end of their day, they were extremely nice, helpful, flexible and informative. I’d highly recommend Rome be a first stop if you are looking for furniture as they try to feature American-made products at very reasonable prices. The salesman actually told us that a less-expensive lift chair was of better quality than a similar model on their floor.

I’ve been seeing commercials about the furniture outlets in the Gardner area for years. After going to pretty much all the major furniture retailers around Boston, I decided we should make the trek to Gardner. It was actually a nice drive down 495 to Rt 2 and we were there in about an hour. Rome was the 3rd showroom we visited after the La Chance showrooms. We were really impressed by the size of this place. Including the basement, it was 4 floors. These are old mill buildings and I don’t recall seeing elevators so just a warning to some folks who might not expect all the up and downs. Great workout for the legs! So 4 floors clearly offers a huge selection of furniture. The prices range from reasonable to expensive. They do have a bargain basement which is nice if you are looking for a good deal. We were looking for a dining room set and they did have a decent selection of sets, we just didn’t find anything that really stood out here. But it’s a great place to walk through and had some really nice sofas and bedroom sets.
