The recipe for the batter seemed to have recently changed; it is thicker and not as crispy. Please let me know when you go back to the old way of preparing it.

I don’t know how many times I’ve told them too much batter! And yet every time they’ve never fail to put to much batter in my fish! By the time I’ve brought it home it’s soggy!

One star for credit card fee. Or as I call it extra profit. If you are going to take credit cards suck it up it is a part of being a business.

Food doesn’t taste bad and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. Why 2 stars? Well, because even newly fried, non of the food was crispy. I ordered fish, frieds, zucchini, okra, and mushrooms. As soon as I got to the car, I dug into the food and it just wasn’t crispy. I can’t even say crispy enough, because non of was. I even ordered the fries extra crispy, and nope it wasn’t. I wish I could give 5 stars, but I can’t lie and give positive notes on anythings but cleanliness, hospitality, and selection. When we think of H Salt, we think of crispy food. This just wasn’t even close to that. Too bad too. Food tasted great!

Bought the three piece fish and got a big surprise they’re huge pieces. fries were a little over cooked kinda dry and too much in portions they could cut back on the portion of fries as the fish will gladly fill you besides who wants more fries than food, i don’t draw backs they have no lemon wedges for their fish would be nice if they added that they can keep the tartar sauce and vinegar. Another draw back no seating they have a little bit of room for a few seats around four seats

Too much batter for my taste. Their combos are filling, but the excess batter will make you feel queasy. I also think their prices are high. I gave it a try but I don’t think I’ll be returning.

I haven’t been here in about a year or so. I’m guessing they have new owners or bad cooks. The London special was ok, but the shrimp and fries taste like it was cooked in OLD grease. So tonight was a very bad dinner for my household. I guess I will not be returning to H. Salt anymore.

It was plentiful but it was just too much batter on everything, I felt so fat n greasy after I ate, the fries got soggy from being in the hot sweaty bag.

I come to H salt when I’m craving fried fish and chips. It’s not my place if choice just because everything there is deep fried so the health scale of this place is basically non existent. They make fish n chips the English way with tar tar sauce and malt vinegar. It is good so if you haven’t tried it yet, id give it a shot.

I love H Salt Fish and Chips. I come and get a «Big Ben» Dinner every Friday night. It is 4 pieces of fish with fries. Food is cooked to order, so expect to wait 10 minutes. This is strictly a take-out place. There are no tables or chairs. Also, parking can be difficult due to the other restaurants in the small complex. But the fish is worth it. Is it gourmet? No. But it is comfort food because it is very much the same as when I was much younger. Try it.

I do love H. Salt Esq., Fish and Chips, maybe it’s nostalgic, and in part it’s a somewhat prehistoric type franchise which like Pioneer Chicken is a dying brand that’s hard to find. The franchise used to have awesome Clam Chowder(New England style), but I don’t see it offered at any location. It seems that Asian Americans own most of the franchises I see opened up throughout California, for some reason. Just an observation. The fish is always fresh tasting(whether it’s frozen or not I am not sure). At this location, like most, they do the«cook to order» so it’s not sitting under a heat lamp drying out waiting for a customer, which makes for less«fast food» but for at least«fresh food» that’s hot, and generally moist. Give yourself 10 – 15 minutes as budgeted time in and out of here to get your order. I do like the tempura like batter used by H. Salt Esq., and I enjoy the fish, the shrimp and the fried zucchini. The one thing I notice the most about H. Salt franchises, is the management treat tarter sauce as if it were gold and can be somewhat stingy in giving that(as well as cocktail sauce) away, or at least for free, since many locations charge for extra sauce. The prices aren’t bad at all, and they run all sort of nicknamed specials, so you have to evaluate what you’re in the mood for. Generally 2 pieces of fish are enough to fill the average appetite. Their french fries are excellent, they taste fresh cut(as opposed to frozen). This location is more of an oddity in that there’s no seating, it’s a pure«to go» location. It would be awesome if there was seating. Parking is okay, it’s a small lot neighboring a Baskin Robins 31 Flavors Ice Cream and a McDonald’s, so isn’t too tough generally, and I’d say 75% of the time I visit during the day, I can get a spot in the front of the H. Salt location.

Came here Friday evening around 7:30. I came in time, just as I finished ordering there was a line of 10 out the door. For $ 11 I got 6 oysters & chips, 1 fish and 1 jumbo shrimp. I will have to say I would definitely come back for the oysters! Be careful though, they squirt! Literally, as I bit into each one they all squirted juice across the table! I overheard one of the customers telling the guy at the register that he’s been coming here since he was a kid. This place has been here for 40 years! It’s no wonder either. You can’t beat the price. Everything is fried fresh right in front of you. Def get the vinegar on the side so that it stays crisp. Service was good I don’t understand Karitas visit. I’d come back!

I just started a new job nearby and couldn’t believe there was an actual H Salt Esquire! My grandma and I stopped in one evening. The staff here was very friendly. We each got the 2-piece fish and chips combo. Our food came out pretty quickly. I have to say their flavor/freshness is a million times better than Long John Silvers! It’s not nearly as salty or greasy. The fish was pretty big and filling. I’d definitely go back!

This review would have been one star or better yet zero stars(if possible) and the only thing that changed my mind is the young lady cooking the food at H Salt is actually quite nice, competent and the fish was delicious. The dude working the register and taking orders was a complete JERK. First of all I’d never eaten here because every time I walk past the place is empty and I assumed that was a message I should heed. We ordered a few different things just to get a good idea about the food… apparently our questions exasperated the dude on the register. After ordering almost $ 40.00 worth of stuff, we waited and honestly the food was well prepared and looked great. All credit about the food goes to the young lady on the fryers. As we were leaving with our huge bag of fish we asked register dude for tartar sauce. We didn’t think it would be a problem considering they had a refrigerator FULLOFFRESHSAUCE behind him. At this point he reached under the register into a box and pulled out packets of tartar sauce that were probably so old they were used at the last supper. My husband asked«why can’t we have the ones in the fridge» and this guys reply was that we couldn’t. We pulled out money to pay for the obviously sacred sauce and he ignored us and walked away. In shock and a little angry we walked to our car shaking our heads and vowing never to come back. Not being satisfied, my hubbs decided to try one more time and went back in to tell the young lady cooking the food what happened and she gladly gave us the sauce, an apology and informed us that the sauce the other moron gave us was no good. If you’re desperate for fish and like a fight then H Salt is your place… 5 stars to the young lady working there by the way.

Greasy foods is what I tried, lo and behold they were deep fried, get a soda to wash it down, on top which, oil floats around, an easy lunch is what is sought, and the fish n’ chips is what I got, 7 bucks is quite a deal, for having grease as a meal. Tables are missing, here’s what you do, take outs are easiest, this is true, I take it home and enjoy it there, then I can put tapatio everywhere, parking’s tough, but don’t you fret, call in your order, and then you’re set stop by a drugstore, get some antacid you’ll be thankful, when you say, that’s what he said.

One of the better H. Salts. It seems like they raise there prices monthly! A used tire shop has smarter employees… but they know how to fry some fish.

Me and my dad love this place. When i’m in LA i go here atleast once a week. I’ve been calling in my orders so long they always recognize my voice. Wonderful speedy service. No complaints… my dad gets the london special(two pieces of fish and fries) and i get the picadilly(1 piece of fish and fries). This place only does takeout… there is no where to sit…

Fried oysters are BOMB! takes me back to the days I lived in turkey, you could get a newspaper cone filled with fried mussels and yogurt sauce. Back then i’d eat mussels til I puked, little asian kid chomping down a dozen mussels insane. Fish is okay… so is the shrimp and lobster. Batter is typical, nothing too fancy, not too flavorful and gets soggy so get your vinegar on the side. Seafood seems to be frozen, so its not too juicy — cept the oysters. I’ve never really liked fish n chips, so I might not know the what I’m looking for in fried battered fish. They don’t have oysters on their take out/chain/website menu but they have it on the main menu so it MIGHT be a specialty at this joint. I suggest you get some cucumber yogurt sauce, french bread and enjoy the oysters, they are crispy on the outside and bursting with juice on the inside. 3 stars riding on the 99c each fried oysters(you’ll be good with max 8 pieces). btw, the place smells and feels like it has oil in the air when you walk in, atleast its take out only… I hope this review sparks a major fried oyster eating frenzy.
