Alfonso Ponce Elena is the winemaker/owner and has built a quaint tasting room with sweeping views. We tasted a Sauvignon Blanc, an ’08 Syrah, ’09.’11, ’12 Zinfandels and his red blend. All of his wines were very good and so reasonably priced. I left there with 3 bottles of wine and some delicious tequila mustard for $ 64! He doesn’t have a wine club as of yet but who needs a discount with prices like his?! Plenty of space to set up a picnic to enjoy the gorgeous views of the mountains. It’s simply magical there!

My friend and I made the trek up here today, lured by the promise of dog friendly wine caves. It’s about 10 minutes from Coloma off 49. We went into their tasting room, and we were the only folks there. They produce Zinfandel, a Syrah and a blend of something I can’t remember. The wines were decent but nothing I liked well enough to take home. The tasting fee was $ 5. The views are really lovely. It’s up way high and has a vantage point over the valley. They have a variety of picnic tables set up, and she said they do sell by the glass. In the future, I’ll bring a picnic and buy a glass of wine just for the view. She had no problem with our dogs, so that’s a plus. I didn’t see a single cave though, which was disappointing.

Absolutely love this place! What a sweet escape! Very friendly and accepting vibes with the best wine! The view is like nothing you have ever seen before! Will definitely be visiting frequently because OMG it’s only 20 minutes from my house!

This place is fantastic! Despite that they have«caves» as part of the title, if nothing else you should come here for the amazing panoramic views! From their hilltop location you can see the second oldest bridge in California and the home where the first discovery of gold occurred! Of course their wines are also great. We enjoyed the Zins, Syrah and Grenache. We even lucked up and had some tasty treats the winery offered to pair well with the wines. Definitely make a stop at this vineyard!

I visited Jose Wine Caves on Labor Day weekend and out of the 5 wineries we tried and most of the wineries I have ever been too — Jose has the best wine! I bought one bottle of each of his wines and I love everyone of them. He met us at the door, poured the wine and really made another weekend in Northern California special. Thanks Jose — Now tell me how I can order your wine online?

A must see and must taste winery! The setting is the most serene in El Dorado County, carved out on a mountain side overlooking Coloma and beyond!!! Wonderful selection of Reds, so delicious, we bought one of each! Alfonso is the most caring owner/wine maker and we are lucky to share in this little bit of heaven… Recuerdo…
