Shakey’s Pizza Parlor

While Shakey’s Pizza Parlour was one of my favorites when I was a child… it just doesn’t hold the magic anymore.
Don’t get me wrong, I still eat here from time to time and the foods not that bad, it just doesn’t compare to the days of yore («long ago» for the uneducated). Their pizza and sauce no longer hold the individual taste they used to. Same for the mojo potatoes… they lost the thing that made them the tastiest tater around in the day! I’m quite sure all this had to do with corporate entities coming in and mucking everything up as they’ve done with so much to make this world as vanilla as possible! I’m sorry for all of today’s youths bland taste buds. lol

Came here to take my daughter and her best friend out for bunch of lunch. I Chose
this shakeys because it was a cleaner one so we drove from fountain valley to come to this one.
My daughter and her friend were playing games and one of the games ran out of tickets.
My daughter and her friend approached the female manager on duty to ask for assistance.
The manager ignored them and said she would take care of it later.
So the girls continued to play and once again another machined ran out of tickets so they went and told the manager about the 2^nd one.
The female manager just yelled at my daughter’s 8year old best friend and my daughter.
She told her «I already told you I will help you in a little bit.»
Me sitting across from where they were I could clearly hear her yelling at the girls .
So I immediately approached the manager um Excuse me that is not how u approach a customer when it’s ur damn Job.
She apologized immediately but this is so unacceptable
I am still livid and disgusted.
You do not talk to a child like that. A child can never really defend themselves especially from a damn adult.
This is really sad I really enjoyed this place when patty and Nancy were managers .
Will not be retuning and will be definitely contacting Nick the owner.

Hard working, nice employees in a restaurant that brings me back to the good ol’ days. The menu hasn’t changed much and the food is still yummy! The difference between today and back when I was in high school is the guilt and nervousness I felt as I was eating those salty, deliciously fried mojo potatoes and chicken knowing what it was doing to my cholesterol level, let alone my pant size. The individual pizza was a thin, crispy crust so the carb load wasn’t as bad. I could taste the tomato sauce and the cheese was melty. It was a good pizza. Bunch a lunch is 11 – 2 and we got there at about 2:15 so we just missed it. Looked good though and included items like enchiladas, salad bar, garlic bread, corn, a sweet pizza with chocolate drizzle on top, and of course, the chicken and mojos. My only gripe was the tv volume was so low and when a customer asked the cashier lady to turn it «a tiny bit louder» the cashier said she couldn’t because the speaker is near the phone and they wouldn’t be able to hear the phone calls because of the echo… when you come into a pizza place to enjoy the game on the giant tv screens in the rooms and eat pizza with friends, you should be able to hear the game. Not loud, but audible, at least! Anyway, I didn’t care because I wasn’t watching the game anyway, just thought it was a weird comment coming from a pizza place with 5+ giant tv’s showing the game. Other than this, it’s a good restaurant that has consistent quality food. We just missed the bunch a lunch so when we ordered our lunch special that comes with a individual pizza, chicken, mojos and potatoes, I thought we’d get what was left over from the buffet. No, thank goodness! Our food was fresh and hot! Whew! I’m coming back during the week for their $ 4.99 lunch a bunch! It’s $ 8.99 on the weekends but that would still be a good deal. I don’t think that price has changed since I was in high school! A great deal for decent food and good service. Keep it up Shakey’s!

My boyfriend’s family and I came to celebrate his mom’s birthday and soooo many things went wrong:
1. Cashier was totally rude. It was mine my first time there and she was not very helpful because I COULD NOT make up my mind on what I wanted.
2. My boyfriend ordered a pitcher of shocktop (his mom works with alcohol) and she poured our drinks before seeing our ids… CAN YOU SAY ILLEGAL. and my boyfriends mom even said something about it and she just shrugged her shoulders as if she didn’t care what was said to her.
3. Once we sat down and poured our beer into our glasses, it wasn’t even cold or have any «fizz» to it. SOOOOO we tried to get a different beer and the cashier said «well i dont know how something is wrong with it I just replaced the keg» okay… RUDE get us a different kind then.
4. The kitchen is ridicoulously SLOW. One part of our party recieved their food and their chicken was cold because they waited literally 4 minutes before it even being brought to our table. There were three tongs on the floor by the salad bar and I watched 3 team members walk by and not pick them up.
5. Their soda was ALL flat.
6. The machines in the arcade were medicore. Continuously ate the kids’ tokens and there was nobody attending that area so we couldn’t even get the tokens back. And when we did ask for help, the member rolled their eyes like we were inconviencing them.
I know this isn’t a five star restaurant but dang, I feel like we could have gotten some better service.
good things:

My experience in California so far is mediocre service at best.
NOT at Shakeys’ in Garden Grove! I have been coming here now for about
4 months and the quality has never decreased… It is always what I expect
every single visit, without disappointment!
EVERY time I walk in, I am greeted by someone! And not in a mandatory
scripted Welcome… It is always a sincere Hi and Welcome to Shakeys’
that makes you glad you stopped in. These people serve
hundreds of people a day, and Always remember my name. not just mine,
but I hear them calling so many people by name .that it makes you feel
like everyone shares the same experience… The Service is always Exceptional
Especially from Erika and Jake. They Care about the business, as if it were
their own… keeping everyone happy, the buffet clean and full and always
checking to see if you need anything. This is the best meal for your money
in CA. The lunch buffet has more food choices than you could ever eat,
and All of it is really very good… Amazing Fried Chicken, and Really
good pizza! (always plenty to choose from) Why go anywhere else? You
could have something different EVERY time you stop in! Try it, You’ll Like it!

Greasiest pizza and wings I have ever had, but hey! They have a great kids’ gaming area that keeps them preoccupied while you guzzle that nice cold beer…

This place is great! Food is delicious and they have food turned over really quickly, assuring you the freshest food possible. This location is very clean and the staff is helpful and polite. I definitely suggest you try this location.

I can’t tell you how friendly and amazing staff of this places is! They go above and beyond to take care of your needs. The food is incredible and the place is clean. They even have a nice arcade for children, that is also very clean. Bunch o lunch is a great deal. All you can eat!!!

Check the games before you order. We ordered good, grabbed our drinks, found a table… only to discover that only two or so games work in the game room. The coin machine is out of order as well. Having come to Shakey’s only so my son can play games, this was highly disappointing.

The pizza was pretty good and the mojo potatoes were spot on as always. What really irked me was the video games. I have 3 kids and there’s about 10 games at this pizza place, sounds great until they start playing. Every game lasts about 5 seconds, not long enough to make a kid happy. This is worse than Vegas, these games are designed to take your money quick and give you 5 tickets. A 100 tickets will get you a 5 cent toy by the way.
On the bright side, the lady who helped the kids with their toys was very nice. If it weren’t for her, I would have left a lower star rating.

Shakey’s pizza is definitely the most delicious place I’ve ever been to. I love it there pizza, mojo’s, and chicken are the best I’ve ever had. Last time I’ve been there the amount came out to be $ 80. A little pricy but in the end you just have to know the deals to get.

Place was dirty with all open booths not bussed. Floors were not vacuumed. No ice for drinks and it was clear the staff didn’t care. They were also pullIng food from the closed buffet for new orders.
I normally don’t post things like this but we got a refund and went somewhere else for lunch To make things worse 5 – 8 business days for a refund.
Not a pleasant experience at all.

Place just gets worse and worse. Get new help or people who actually keeps the food & place well maintenance. Pizza & staff were below par! Sucks cause I like shakeys. Just the staff killed the vibe I had there. Then when I got the food. All bad. Not coming back to this location.

Very rude! As of this evening I will believe this is the last time I will come to this location the manager working today in the blue shirt is very rude and and unprofessional lacking in simple customer service skills! This is the second time i ran across with her just her demeanor and how she helps you. no bueno! I just asked her help me to understand the coupon and what was the specials and it was like if your stupid or she acts like she doesnt want to honor it. even bad she looks at you if you were trash! News flash lady if you hate your job why work here! Your represeting your companys name and your demeanor is really bad. And button up your shirt this is a family resturant!

I love Shakey’s. There’s no denying it.
It was my favorite place to go growing up.
We would visit my aunt’s house and she would get take out from Shakey’s, while we watch horror films (every time). My love for Shakey’s was born, so was my dread of horror films.
Fast forward years and I can’t think of a better place to have lunch. Theirs bunch a lunch buffet is one of my favorite. Pizzas, fried chicken, mojo potatoes, salad and now dessert pizza too. Yum!
My favorites:
Fried Chicken (surprise, surprise lol) always has a crispy skin and moist meat. DELICIOUS!
Spaghetti w/​meat sauce (don’t judge me, hahaha) I know it’s not the best (spaghetti is always soggy, from being in that warning tray so long, haha) but I like it. A dash of pepper flake, parmesan cheese and pepper fixes the taste a bit. Okay nothing can save it, but I always have to get done when I’m here =)
Mojo Potatoes with some ranch dressing is the BOMB. Enough said, you know I’m right. Haha.
Pizza, specially the thin crust ones. It doesn’t matter what the topping, that’s my slice. Hands off.
With my son in tow, I’m glad they have Mac N a Cheese and mashed potato with that chicken gravy. Of course he loves the mojo and fried chicken (skin) too. Son in training.
He saw the arcade area and he was itching to go! Perfect!
The place is clean, someone was always busing the tables and whipping it.
Flat screen TVs galore too. Perfect for the sporting enthusiast.
I can’t see a better place to have lunch at a really reasonable price too.
I love Shakey’s, it always brings back good memories and horror movie flash backs hahaha!

I always have my kids birthday parties here and I’ve never had a complaint, im actually surprised seeing soooo many bad reviews.
Pizza is very yummy.
SOME of the people who work there are very friendly but i do believe SOME should smile and make u feel welcome.
I hate the fact that i can’t remember names but some of the employees are very friendly and nice so give this place a try.

Cute place! Pretty small but fits about 100 people. Perfect for dinner or to watch a game. Huge TV’s everywhere inside! Family style seating toward the center and booth/​tables everywhere else.
Food was great I recommend the thing crust! Don’t forget to order the mojos!

I grew up going to Shakeys Pizza… probably lucky if I get it once every couple of years now… but I ended up here at the GG location and did the Bunch of Lunch. This is a nice location. Clean, bright and the staff was on top of it. Good stuff!

Screw it… I’ll be hurting my reputation on Unilocal but eff it. I love shakey’s. My original 3 star review remains true about the buffet but since I live within walking distance of this Shakey’s I order pizzas for pick-​up often. Unlike the daytime staff the night staff are much friendlier and actually have the ability to make eye contact and smile unlike the horrid day staff.
My go to item is the pepperoni pizza. Crust is great, sauce is great, pepperoni is great. It’s great :-) It may for the same reasons I like Knott’s Chicken Dinner restaurant and Katella Deli… I grew up eating at these places so it’s a blast from the past when I take a bite of the pizza and it tastes exactly like it did when I was 15. The «shakey’s special» is pretty good too, loaded with tasty toppings. I had a party at my house and served a big variety of Shakey’s pizza and people seemed to like it… but they may have just been nice to my face and then spit it out in the trash when I wasn’t looking. I like to pretend they all liked it.
Last weekend I tried their wings for the first time. Really plump with lots of meat and a tasty crispy batter. My only complaint is the sauce is served on the side so I had to toss the wings in the sauce myself for even coating. Guess it did keep the skin crispy this way.
Mojos… ’nuff said.

This review for this particular Shakey’s is solely based upon its customer service.
I mean, I would never eat from the Bunch of [Calories] Lunch menu anyway, but I’m sure it’s tasty, and there are plenty of people – including my friends – who enjoy it. However, this review is reserved for the customer service alone.
I, instead, ordered an «Individual Pizza» ($ 3.99):
. Eh, it’s not the best I’ve ever had, but if you are in need of getting the most carbs for your buck, this place is more than willing to accomodate you. But, yet again, this review is not about pizza. It’s about customer service.
So I’m here, and I have limited time. I don’t want the Bunch of Lunch, thank you. (I think that kind of confused the girl behind the register; she seemed shocked.) I just want a slice. Well, they don’t serve by the slice – unless you want the Bunch of Lunch – so I opt for the «Individual Pizza.» I ask how long that will take to prepare. I’m told 10 minutes. Add an iced tea ($ 2.19) and ring it up.
Almost 20 minutes later (not 10), my pizza arrives. But that’s ok. However, here’s where I derive issue. When my pizza finally arrives, I am not even acknowledged – not a glance, not a smile, not even a nod. I said «thank you.» And nothing. It was as if the staff was upset that I had them make a special pizza instead of my just picking my way through the AYCE beige-​colored buffet. If this girl were a server in a sit down, table-​service restaurant, we would all re-​evaluate her «expected» tip.
So what was I «expecting,» you ask? Well, recognition, I guess. Maybe a «Can I get you anything else?» Maybe a «Sorry for the delay.» Maybe a simple «You’re welcome.» Yeah, I know, it’s just a Shakey’s. Should that, then, negate any expectations that I have? I mean, I don’t even like Shakey’s, but I spent money anyway. But, as I have already stated, this review is not about whether or not I like their food. Because I don’t.
