Harae Sushi & Grill

ok location is perfect close to the house and so it is super easy to swing in on the way home from work and grab some sushi. They have a decent selection of vegan rolls and options. Staff is very friendly and remember you even if you are not a regular. They ask where my daughter is when she isn’t with me and remember our food restrictions.
From what I understand they have a great late night happy hour, I’ll update once I make it in for that.

The place is a great spot for a quick bit. The tuna quality is amazing. Great food.

Honestly, this is just your average American sushi place. Nothing special, nothing bad. If I’m going to spend this kind of money on sushi, I would much rather go somewhere else. Yu can get much better sushi for the same price. One thing that bothered me was how tasteless the tuna was. Tuna nigiri and hand roll were straight tasteless. Good if you want late sushi I suppose — they’re only open to 12 not whatever Unilocal says — but this place isn’t crowded for a reason

This is a great place to get sushi late at night. They are open till 1am so for all those who sleep late and wake up late and feel like getting some sushi this place is golden.
Food– Their food was very fresh and pretty good. The first time I came here, we got a caterpillar roll that I can still taste till today. The amount of freshness in their avocado was amazing. They were also very generous with the amount of avocado they give. However, the second time I came back it was just okay. I would give this a five star however because of their inconsistency of their food I was a bit disappointed. Besides that, the other rolls were pretty great.
Service– There is only one person working server and I give her props because she handles herself very well and is super friendly. She is always smiling and she is also very adorable. The food does take a while to come out though.
Price– Each of the rolls are about $ 12 – 14 each but the size of the rolls make up for it. Your bill will most likely come out to about $ 40 at least for two people.
Overall– This is my current favorite sushi place coming from a person who is not the biggest fan of sushi. They have fresh quality fish as well as avocado which is a very big plus. It is also usually empty and can be a bit hidden from view, but it is absolutely worth it to come here.

Found my new spot for late night sushi. Plates are about $ 13 a plate but the rolls they give your are Huge rolls! I can usually order 4 plates at other sushi restaurants and be able to finish it no problem. Had to take home some of the left over sushis as I couldn’t finish. That’s a plus as I’ll have my breakfast or lunch set. ^.^
I dock down one star for the service. Not trying to be mean as we were serviced by a nice sweet lady but it got annoying having to wave the server down for things like plates, water refill, to go boxes. Wasn’t busy at the time we went as we were the only customers there.
I will return nonetheless, sushi was delightful and hit the spot at midnight hours.

So much amazing! Loved the tiger roll and Las Vegas rolls I had. My travel mates rocked out on philly rolls and dragon rolls and potstickers. Everything was fantastic! The half price sake didn’t hurt either!

It’s always hard looking for a good sushi place, one that serves fresh sashimi, not just rolls and teriyaki combos. So when I heard there’s a new sushi place open that’s close to my house, I was excited to check it out.
The first time I went, their offerings looked pretty standard so I ended up not ordering anything. But after reading all the rave reviews about how fresh their fish is and how great their food was, I gave it another try.
Both times I went around 7:30−8pm, and both times, the restaurant was pretty empty. Less than 15 people. I decided to pick some of the standard stuff (salmon, yellowtail, etc) and a few of the not so standard stuff. To my disappointment, 3 out of 3 items were out of stock. Mackerel, Sea Scallop, and Uni.
So I settled for some Salmon, Yellowtail, and Unagi sushi, salmon skin handroll + a spider roll.
The salmon skin in the handroll was pretty dark looking, almost to the brink of burnt — not very good.
The spider roll — also disappointing, the crab did not taste freshly fried, the crab was cold and batter was chewy, rice was mushy, and the whole thing just tasted blah.
The salmon was ok, yellowtail was a bit fishy, the Unagi was really disappointing and extremely fishy and slimy. It was kind of gross.
It was a pretty disappointing meal, and I will not be back. Considering the prices they were charging, I’ve had better sushi at AYCE sushi joints.
There was alot of non-​asian customers in the place which seemed ironic to me considering this place is in the heart of Garden Grove.

4 stars for the happy hour drink specials! $ 10 for a pitcher of draft beer PLUS large sake. 50% off all other cold sake bottles. As for the food, it’s just okay. I always have a hard time deciding what to eat because nothing really stands out. Just come for the drinks and you’ll be okay!

My wife and I are regular customers at this place. The sushi and sashimi are excellent and super fresh. The portions are great too.
A really low key joint, but definitely can compete with the best out there. The only minor negative being the staffing… usually its sufficient, but there will be a short wait on busy weekend.

High quality fish, good service and this place is open late and the fish is fresh.
I will not complain about the prices the food is worth it, eat here.

What’s better than late night sushi?

Harae sushi exceeded my expectations big time! I was very impressed with Harae overall, and recommend this restaurant. Ordered some food to be delivered, got sushi, some teriyaki plates for the kids, and some rolls to try out, a crunchy albacore roll, and the standard rainbow roll. The lady who took our order was very sweet, and we got our food fast! At first I thought they are a little on the expensive side, but once we got our food we could see why. This is definitely a «quality» sushi restaurant! No funny smells, everything looked and tasted fresh, and they gave some GOOD sized portions, especially the steak teriyaki. I am looking forward to coming back to this place! Thanks.

The reason why I gave this place 4 stars was because the mushroom appetizer we ordered was not up to par with the other dishes.
This time we got the 18 pc. sashimi combo ($ 21), spicy tuna crispy rice (5pc. $ 10), and the shadow ridge roll ($ 14) but we substituted the albacore for salmon for an extra $ 1. Lastly we checked in for 50% kirin lg. beer! Verdict: great sushi esp for a late night dinner (we came in at 11pm, they open til 1am)! We enjoyed every bit of it and kept wanting to order the more. They originally forgot about our miso soup that’s supposed to come with the sashimi combo, but she quickly got it for us when we reminded her so no biggie!
I don’t know I don’t come here more often, but will definitely be one of my top sushi spots so close to home and fresh fish! Do recommend!

Went in an hour before they closed and the servers were very welcoming. I ordered the teriyaki chicken and crunch roll. The crunch rolls were delicious but the teriyaki chicken was dry.

Overall: If you’re a fan of real sushi and sashimi, this is one of the few solid places in Garden Grove. The seafood is fresh, and they have a good variety that includes U10 scallops and uni. Although the prices are fair to me (West LA has skewed my perspective), it is definitely pricier than other establishments in the area by a dollar or two.

U10 Scallop Sushi ($ 6.95): The biggest scallop size is the U10, meaning under 10 of them weighs a pound. For some reason, it’s hard to find a place that does solid sushi in Garden Grove. Most of it is americanized to the max so an order of scallop sushi is usually a bunch of little scallops in a mayo-​siracha mix. None of this here. Just scallop on a bed of rice with some ponzu on top. Simple and delicious.
Salmon Skin Roll ($ 6.95) has fried salmon skin, cucumber, and crabmeat with roe and crunchy tempura flakes sprinkled on top. The portion is a little smaller than other places with only 6 rolls, but it’s well made. The salmon skin was just a tad burnt, I think.

The waitress and chef are attentive. They’ll ask about each dish you eat and inquire if you need anything else. I was stuffed up by allergies, so I wasn’t in the mood to talk, but the sushi chef seemed friendly and open to chatting.

There’s parking on the side and in the rear, so it isn’t super convenient. However, it is fairly empty so you shouldn’t have any problems finding parking. Inside, it’s clean and there’s pop music. Don’t be deterred by how empty it is. The fish is fresh and the food is good.

fresh fresh fresh! that’s exactly what my friend and I were looking for when we set out for dinner late Sat night and this was one of the only places open. when I try a new sushi place, I do a bit of everything — some sushi, a specialty sashimi plate, and a fatty, Americanized roll that usually is tempura fried with cream cheese in it. #dontjudge
but we had a heavy meal earlier, and were in the hunt for some top notch sashimi. mission accomplished! I’ll let the pics do most of the talking — everything was fresh, generous portions (sashimi combo H is a must), and delicious! I was a bit skeptical of the combo at first; having worked at a sushi restaurant before, ‘chef’s choice’ usually referred to whatever they had the most of. but it turns out I was worried for no reason; they even put extra crab on the side!
nice staff, prompt service, what’s more to say?

It’s been weeks since I’ve been here and the fact that I’m struggling to think about what was great or not so great about this place means it probably was middle of the road for me. With a sushi place, you really have to do something to stand out in people’s mind– the food did not particularly have a wow factor nor was the service excellent (I tried a salad, roll, and the garlic noodles, and the roll was probably the best of the three). All just average at best. The price point here seems to be on the higher end than the nearest competitors in the area.
I did like that the restaurant was relatively empty – I feel like it has the most potential of all the restaurants that have been in this lot. Hopefully it can find a way to keep the customers coming in.

Went here on a Sunday night, thankfully they were open! Everything was great here, sushi was fresh. The seared rolls are good, such as the Oh no! Roll (which was amazing because I love spicy rolls, and this had the perfect spice level). I also tried their mushrooms wrapped in bacon which was delicious! (Obviously oily & unhealthy, but delicious nonetheless).
The only drawback for me is that I think this place is more expensive for the quality of sushi that they offer. I’ve been to sushi places that are comparable, if not better, and those places are still slightly cheaper.

This place is legit. I’m here now enjoying their fresh selection and writing this review.
I’ actually drive by this place almost everyday wondering what is this place. Until my sister spontaneously texted me about how fresh this place is. I immediately met her up and am totally satisfy.
