Cha nuong Loc la is bomb diggity along with the cha bun thit nuong. :) the dipping sauce that comes with the Loc la is delicious! I love supporting small family shops. It’s rare to find Vietnamese restaurant owners that are genuinely nice. The foods cooked with love and the lady is so kind and attentive. They also sell some of the food items frozen for our convenience. Majority of the frozen food is packed in air tight pressure bags which is a plus for me. I’m looking forward to coming back and trying the rest of the food on the menu.

This is a straight up mom and pop Vietnamese restaurant/take out place. They used to be at green farm and grew. They do change their menu here and there a little bit but their specialty ch oc is excellent. Bánh canh is also great. Will come back frequently.

I have mixed reviews about this place. The one time my bf brought me takeout the food was delicious 4 stars. But I came here and ate and really couldn’t finish my food, it wasn’t good, a 1 star experience. I wonder if they changed chefs? The owner was very attentive and friendly, she even brought over a complimentary snack. I really want to like this place and help support local mom and pop businesses.

I’ve tried the cha oc gia huy and it is very delicious! They are generous with the snails. The dipping sauce included makes the dish better. It’s a bit sweet, salty, sour, with a hint of lemongrass. I have yet to try the other items here though.

Came here with my parents to have our cha oc fix. The owner was very sweet and constantly apologized for the long wait since they let the employees went home early for church. She even gave us a plate of banh khoai mon nuong for free. We ordered the Cha Oc Nuong La Lot and Cha Oc Nuong Mia Lau. Both were super flavorful and came with the sauce that is similar to Brodard nem cuon sauce. I had the Bun Cha Oc which is like bun rieu but with cha oc instead of crab paste. Dad got Bun Mam and Mom got Bun Thit Nuong. Both have cha oc. We loved every dish. The seasoning was on point, not too salty or sweet. The vegetables that came with our bun were clean and fresh. Best thing is they don’t use MSG. My parents are both allergic to MSG so it’s hard for me to find restaurants that they can enjoy. We’ll be coming back here many more times.

Review is for pick up only– Never heard of Cha Oc Gia Huy until my aunt from San Jose asked me to pick up an order of 30 Cha OC(snail sausage) for her to bring back home. Apparently, this place is known for these snail sausages shaped same as a hot dog. They ship all over the US. The lady who helped me was really nice. I explained that my order is to be transported via car back to San Jose. She recommended getting the frozen ones to keep freshness. I also got a couple to try as I was curious. To my surprise, it tasted really good! The sausage was freshly made, warm, and had great flavor. I love the lemongrass in it too! Warning: the shop is very tiny and dingy. From what I remember, there’s 2 table for dine-in folks.

I find it extraordinarily fitting that my 1000th review be about snail sausages wrapped in betel leaves. This dish, but with beef(bo la lot) instead of snail(oc nuong la lot), was an absolute revelation for me on the streets of Saigon in the summer of 2013. It was one of those things that smelled so good it filled an entire city block, 13 floors up, with the scent of grilling leaves and meat. It was also one of those dishes where, if you pointed at the cute little blunt-like rolls on the grill, you’d end up with a plastic-tabled feast, complete with lettuce wraps, rice paper wraps, platters of fresh veggies, and three different dipping sauces. Here, you just get the blunts and one ginger sauce, and the blackened leaf-rolls are filled with a snail-pork(I assume) sausage mix.(The dish also only costs $ 3, so I didn’t expect the whole feast.) They come out hot and oily — don’t you dare use your fingers to try and pick them up! — and wonderfully(not excessively) chewy, with the curled dark snail ends poking out here and there. The effect is like a chewier, oceanier nem nuong. I also got their version of dry banh beo, which was just OK, but really, you should probably stick to the part of the menu that’s also up on the wall and has pictures. Those are clearly the specialties — snail sausages and egg rolls. The written menu isn’t in English(which had the sweet waitress a bit nervous when I walked in and asked to see a menu. She relaxed when I told her I could read it). The proprietors are so friendly and welcoming here, even though it’s a two-table storefront that’s mainly giant kitchen. If you eat in, you get a free banh kep(pandan waffle) and since they felt bad that Julian the Vegetarian couldn’t order anything, they made it two banh kep for us. The waffles are crisp and not too sweet, and even though I was absolutely full of snail and the waffles were all Julian could eat, I still stole more than a few bites! I bought a 14 pack of snail egg rolls(cha gio oc, $ 10) from their freezer section and am planning to deep fry them for this Sunday’s dinner. One can never eat too many snails.

This is straight up Vietnam style. Banh beo xu Quang is different. Cha Oc nuong la lot is good. The others not so much. My last and final time there, we ordered the usual plus banh canh. Everything was going well until I went to pay and told them the cha Oc never came out. The lady said she brought it out. To the wrong table. To which the customer said«I ate it already». Wtf? If it’s not yours, don’t eat it! Also, there was only 2 tables with 2 people each, how can you mess that up?! The lady just giggled and took my money. Didn’t apologize, and I wasn’t looking for any discounts or free food, just an apology that you messed up. I would not come back just because of that.

Wow!!! My viet wife and I just left Gia huy and just loved the bun mam. The broth was out of this was new to me, being Caucasian, and my wife got a bit upset when I grabbed her bowl to slurp the remains. I love trying new viet restaurants. This one is more takeout, but there are a couple tables. Lots of good stuff to go. The cha OC had more crunchy snail in it then anywhere else I’ve tried. So, so good. I’ll also go back for the bahn nam. That was the first of many trips to this little place. My mother– in-law has been here many times and loved it as we’ll. I sure love to eat

I just had the worst experience here. We ordered the la lot that I was raving about in my prior post this time however i didn’t get the chance to eat it. They gave my order to the only other table there. Seriously how do you mess that up!!! To top it off the other table ate my food like it was no big deal. I was so upset I couldn’t finish the Banh Canh I ordered… Sad day

If I can give them a 1 star, I would. Rude! Horrible customer service. Doesn’t honor their words. Hypocrites! I only came here to buy the cha of for my sister’s birthday. Only last week and when I asked before buying today, it was buy 10 and get 1 free. Once I asked for 20, she only have me exactly 20. I asked her about the 2 free. She said that because meat prices went up, they no longer have the buy 10 get 1 free deal. I informed her about last week and what she just told me today, she said that they no longer have that deal. Find, whatever… Since I have to buy them for my sister’s birthday. Then, she didn’t calculate my purchase… She went to ring up another lady’s purchase before mine. RUDE!!!

I got the Banh Canh Hai Sai dac bien. It was a pretty good deal for around $ 7. The portion was loaded with all different types of Cha, a quail egg, a pork feet, and 2 big shrimps. The soup was good but a bit salty and I can detect some msg. All the cha’s were okay. It would be better if they take more type to mix and use fresher ingredients. I am so spoiled by the homemade cha ca & cha oc my mom makes. The cha ca was the worst. A little fishy for me. I also tried the egg roll and they were very dry and flavorless. The lady was very nice but I wish the food quality was better.

Came by the other day to try out some snacks with my mom. We got the cha oc(apple snail«sausage, $ 1/stick). I honestly don’t know how to describe it other then the fact it’s grounded up pork mixed with chunks of apple snail. We only four of these, and man were they delicious! Nice and freshly steamed! The texture of the cha was perfect and the oc was cleaned out well considering they didn’t taste fishy. The lady(owner I’m assuming) also gave us a free banh kep(pandan waffle, $ 1.25). It was made fresh in her little waffle maker, and it was pretty nice to eat on a cold rainy day. The waffle had a nice crisp on the edges and had a nice surprise of shredded coconut which isn’t usually in pandan waffles. She also let us try her nem(pickled ground meat w/pork skin), and not bad either! Service was really friendly, and it’s a great place if you need to buy some snacks or pre-mixed cha for your culinary endeavors in the kitchen!

Delicious and authentic Vietnamese food? Check! Great prices? Check! Friendly service? Check! I haven’t had much experience with Vietnamese food besides the occasional outing for phở, spring rolls, banh mi, and com tam, so I decided to ask for their recommendations. They recommended that I try the Cha Gio(egg rolls with taro and pork), and they were fantastic! The egg roll wrapper was golden and flaky, and the filling was full of taro flavor. These put the boring Chinese egg rolls I’m used to having to shame! They also mentioned that I should try the Nem Nuong(barbecued pork), which they said is a very popular dish and is the type of meat that is typically found in spring rolls. I may or may not have drooled a little when I got that first whiff. It was savory and perfectly cooked. I wanted to try one of their waffles as well, but my stomach was just too stuffed. That’s okay though! There’s always the next time.

I LOVE love love the coconut pandan waffles(banh kep la dua) here and they sell it super duper CHEAP(1 $). I think they are giving it out for FREE now as the store is just opened(it was inside GreenFarm market before, I think)!!! I tried this at various places around OC and even San Jose, but this place definitely caught the right recipe! the waffles are neither too thin nor too thick, with the right amount of sweetness, coconut flakes and very CRISPY !!! I live near Chicago and anytime I went back to OC, I always stop by and buy their CHAOC to bring back. They sell it quite cheap compared to Huong GIang, 1 $ each and buy 10 get 1 free and it is ridiculously DELICIOUS!!! the owner is quite friendly too. Well, definitely a MUSTTRY!!!

Love the Cha Hue in here. One of my favorite places if I’ m craving for Cha. This place is kind of small as the name«to go». Quick and friendly service. Should try out
