Surf Specialties, which has been in business for more than 20 years in Galveston, is the premier surf shop in Southeast Texas. James Fulbright has always catered to the surfer who wants more than just a place to find the latest surfboards, surf gear and clothing. Surf Specs is all about community, offering a place where a surfer can go to share stories about recent trips, be regaled with tales of far-​flung travels by Skip himself or just a place to hang and enjoy a great surf movie or some great music.
As a kid, Fulby made us feel at home at his little place on 37^th Street, when his surf shop was located in the garage under the apartment where he lived. Today, while he’s moved on to a bigger and more visible locale on Seawall Boulevard, James still treats his customers like kings. His shop features the best surfboards — including his own Senator shapes and some of the top designs from shapers throughout the country — as well as the best in wetsuits, skateboards and surf clothing.
