Hilton Galveston Island Resort

I got this room at a great deal through BookIt for just over $ 100.
The Hilton Galveston Island is right on Seawall Blvd facing the Gulf of Mexico. We were there for one night but took full advantage of all the amenities. The pool is beautiful with a swim up bar and sauna just to the side. There’s a café/​restaurant on site as well as the spacious bar in the lobby. The room was great, we had a pool view and could see the building next to us, which we later found out was a Rainforest Café. IHOP is also within walking distance.
However, there was a «problem» at check in. They claimed my payment online didn’t go through. I didn’t question it and gave them my credit card. After we got home from vacation and settled back into the real world, I found that my payment HAD gone through and therefore have been double charged… It’s going to be a pain in the butt to fix, super frustrating :(

I just completed my stay at the Hilton in Galveston TX. Almost from the time that I booked my stay, this experience has been shockingly substandard. It took several telephone calls and an escalation to a manager to change my reservation because of a rude and argumentative customer service agent.
My stay, itself, was shockingly substandard. Candy wrappers, from previous guests, could be found on the floor. Housekeeping removed the dirty towels and bath mat, but failed to replace them. Overflowing garbage cans were left untouched. Our beds were found in the same condition that we left them. Something, that could once have been alive, was found on the bathroom light fixture. The batteries on the room safe were dead.
The front desk was advised of this, and offered to send housekeeping to our room, at 8:00 at night. I declined. There was no other offer of remediation.
The final, unpleasant surprise came when I got home. A cockroach had crawled into my luggage.
This hotel is not representative of the Hilton brand.

Let me start by saying it was so bad we left at 3am and drove an hour and 15 mins home.
Beds are SUPER uncomfortable. Nothing luxury or upgraded about them. Super mushy and wobbly. They give you a ton of mushy pillows and only one firm pillow. After the hour and a half of sleep that I did get I woke up with a crick in my neck and my back was out.
Balcony Gulf View, more like Balcony Parking Lot View. Funniest view I’ve ever had. If you sit in the chairs on the balcony we were actually facing the parking lot. We had to turn our heads to the right and then we could see the parking lot and then the Gulf.
Bedding. You pull sheets back and there is just a mattress pad. No fitted sheet. It’s weird.
Room had a really weird smell. Almost mildewy, especially in the bathroom. Toilet seat needed to be secured to toilet!
Tv remote was broken.
Fridge was barely cold.
No microwave. Which was no big deal, but really weird for this type of hotel.
This is NOT a true Hilton. Nothing about this hotel is a Hilton. Lobby is nice, but we would have had a better room at a La Quinta, so the money was a complete waste. Along with everything mentioned above, the worst was the noise. Noise level was ridiculous. And we got a double whammy: Across the hall was a very large slumber party, a few moms and what looked to be about 20 8 year old girls sharing two rooms. The moms were louder than the girls, sitting in the hallway gabbing loudly the whole time. To top that off, we are pretty sure someone was building something above us. Drilling, sawing, hammering away. When we first got to our room around 6 we thought it was remodeling, but then it continued until very late that night. After so many hours of it we went to the lobby and very kindly explained what was going on, only to get an «I’m sorry» along with a smirk and the girl turns her back to us! I was shocked! I could understand if we came down there yelling or being rude, but I don’t believe in conflict. So we went back to our room and tried again to get some sleep. After a few more VERY MISERABLE hours we figured we’d just eat the $ 200 and leave.
Beware, this is not the place to go for a relaxing night away from the kids. It actually showed me that maybe my home isn’t as chaotic as I thought! After driving home an hour and 15 mins I immediately went to my kid’s rooms and snuck in some snuggles, as I truly felt bad after realizing at the hotel that yes, sometimes I need a break, but I’ll take their noise anytime over anyone else! The upside: We made our baby sitters night coming home early, she could go home and sleep in!

The bad: the room quality and comfort are subpar.
The heater/​ac unit has only two settings — hot or off. We tried adjusting the temperature from both the controls on the unit itself and at the non-​working wall thermostat.
The toilet is difficult to flush
There is a large discolored area on the ceiling of the room where water has leaked from above and the repair was never completed (or started).
The carpet is dirty under the desk and beds, and housekeeping in general, is below what I consider to be minimum Hilton standards.
The WiFi in my room on the 4^th floor is inoperable.
Unknowns at this time: shower, food service and checkout
Conclusion from a very frequent traveler: non-​caring or lazy owners/​upper management.

Been coming here off and on for 25 years and it only seems to get better. Newly remodeled and a second building added, very nice décor. Service is great, the practically knock you down with it… staying tonight in a balcony suite facing the Gulf of Mexico and going to the Dinner and New Years ball to ring in the new year!

I was so optimistic because normally I LOVE Hiltons. The rooms were neat and clean and the staff was AMAZING! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming! Outstanding customer service from the valet to housekeeping. However, several things were not working in our room. Our patio door would not open, we placed our food in the refrigerator only to discover this morning that it was not working. And we had to take an awful luke warm shower because the water never got hot. I’m not sure if I’d return… Signed: A little torn.

Very nice Hotel clean room and very nice accommodation. We are on the 9^th floor with direct view of the ocean. The personnel is very friendly and welcoming. The swimming pool looks beautiful, the wifi is only available at the lobby, bar and restaurant. Tomorrow I will review the restaurant on their Thanksgiving brunch. Okay so the brunch was very good. From the meats they had chicken, fish, turkey, and prime rib and the best one was the prime rib. From the desserts the apple pie and bread pudding was great.

We check in last minute didn’t have time to check the review like I did on the first 2 hotel. Grand Hyatt DFW n Omni Dallas Hotel 5 the greatest hotels on this trips.
As you walk through the building every thing old n got beaten up from no TLC n up dated also no one take care of it. The elevator are so dirty I’m afraid to touch after I watched the hotel impossible I got even more curious on every thing.
I had a problem with online booking which is the third party was sold the room was no longer available the front desk staff Elsa was the best she help to solve the problem and I got the room.
No good at all it was so surprise with the quality of all the furniture n every things in this room so old n it need a lots of TLC.
All the towel smells, floor dirty, sheet on 1 of the bad is dirty you all will see I had take a picture.
Phone n every thing else so dusty, the bedding wasn’t do it right, look like the house keeping didn’t like her job.
Rest room water take about 3 – 5 minutes to get warm or cold.
Sink super slow drain all the water, every things are so old n low end. Whoever get used to 5 like me don’t wast your money in this hotel. Don’t let the name Hilton fool you. After check in I check surrounding hotel ms n find out they all bed so stay out side this area and drive in don’t stay in this area.

We stay here often and the staff is always so nice. Tristen one of the supervisors is amazing. The pool is a great size and a big section for kids to play and on the other side a swim up bar. On weekends the pool area has a DJ 90% of the time. Inside by the bar they will have a small band playing music. They always make us feel welcomed

This hotel has a great location right across from the beach making it a great place to stay. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. Also there wee balconies that let you enjoy the beach from your own room. While I personally did not get to use them, the sauna and pool facilities looked great. Definitely would have checked it out if I had more time.

Upon arrival, I was assisted by a young lady named Elsa. I had requested first floor on our phone reservations and when I checked in she told me that we were on the third floor. I have 3 kids, so first floor is just easier for us at their young ages: newborn, 3 and 5. So when I asked why what I requested was not honored, she mentioned that it’s just a request, it’s not a guarantee. Understandable but perhaps customer service should mention this upon booking a reservation. She did find second floor, so I told her that would work. I will say that the bell hop attendees were very welcoming and helpful with our luggage to our room. As we arrived in our room it wasn’t the best of beach views we were expecting for the up charge but we were very close to pool access. Bathroom had a big hole where the sprinkler was mounted in case of fire. Toilet had tank running our whole visit so sound of water did get annoying at times. Room temperature was weird because they had the unit with adjustments but yet a controllable thermostat on the wall as well. We were hot lots of times throughout the night.
After mentioning all the above to upper management, I will say that I was impressed that corporate called and reimbursed $ 100.00 from our stay and also mentioned that when I go back to Galveston that he would like to show me that they back their hotel and he would give me an offer at time of re visit.

I would like to start off by saying that I am a Hilton member and that in general I really like Hilton hotels. This hotel is alright and there is nothing wrong with it, however, it doesn’t really deserve to be called a «resort.»
It takes the claim from a small pool located in front of the hotel that has a swim up bar, a hot tub and a small sauna. If you really like saunas there aren’t that many hotels in south texas with them so that could be a plus, however, to me it is not worth the extra cost. Most hotels in this area have pools around the same size and hot tubs are fairly standard as well.
Due to the fact that this is a resort, everything you want costs extra. Hilton members do get a complimentary breakfast but unlike most other hiltons you are only allowed to take the cold things. If you want any of the hot items, (eggs, hashbrowns, etc standard hotel buffet stuff) you are required to pay $ 8 extra. There are quite a few good restaurants within walking distance that will provide a much better breakfast for around $ 8, don’t do it.
The rooms themselves aren’t any better or worse than Hampton Inn quality. Take that how you will. My travel companion was a little disappointed that the advertised robes were not available in the room.
In summary I would not stay here again or recommend that anyone else stay here either. It’s just not worth the extra money. There are two other hilton properties within a few miles north and south along the seawall. Next time I will be booking with one of those.

This place has the Hilton name, but not the Hilton look and feel. It’s pretty much a dirty motel. The rooms are old and the walls are thin. My room door was warped and I had to shove it shut! The laundry room is a joke — 1 small front loader washer and dryer. The people are courteous and nice. However, the guests were all trashy and rude during my stay. The wrist bands for pool access is also a joke. Is it exclusive? Cuz I saw people walking from the beach over to the hotel pool. Yuck — My daughter found clumps of hair in the murky swimming pool! I also had to «check out» towels for the pool and return by a certain time. If not, there’s a $ 20 charge per towel. What kind of Hilton is this?! A trashy one for sure! It’s the clientele. I’m definitely not staying here again. Now I know not all Hilton’s are the same. I’m counting down the hours till check-​out time!

Arrived to a dirty room. Mirrors had hand prints and toothpaste water splashes, refrigerator had red soda spill, & cookie crumbs on the floor. You expect to arrive to a clean room. The light fixtures by the bed area did not work. They sent the same lady to clean the room and she was saying how they should of not let us in without checking it first, she cleaned some of what I had asked but left without letting us know she was done or saying sorry for the inconvenience. They came into our room multiple times to try to fix the lights and plugs but never did get it to work during our stay, another inconvenience. Slow elevators! Breakfast buffet was 16.00 a person! And the food is not even worth it.
Walking distance from Ihop, Rainforest Café, San Luis Conference Center. Nice pool, does get a bit crowded, & they had several daily activities.
Do not order a mojito… horrible!

A resort in name only. Because they have a nice pool? If you’re set on Hilton properties, go ahead and stay here. My coworker and I play this game with this location every year. It’s always an outrageous rate ($ 300 – 400) and not worth it though summer after summer, the price drops to a much more reasonable $ 150 – 160 about a week before our stay. So then we can cancel our Hampton reservation on the island or up in League City, etc. Granted, it’s across from the beach though it’s one of the saddest beaches anywhere. South Padre is nicer. Many other beaches on the gulf are nicer. Heck, the beaches in Chicago where I live are amazing compared to Galveston.
The pool area is great and the best part of the hotel. The renovated rooms are an improvement. I appreciate the Peter Thomas Roth toiletries especially the body wash which not all Hiltons provide. Points for the body pouf they provide — don’t see that anywhere else. The restaurant staff does a decent job. The executive lounge is okay so better than nothing but nothing to write home about.
Try not to get the main building rooms away from the pool (odd numbered rooms). There you get a fabulous view of the back of the convention center next door or if you’re lucky, you’ll get a view of delivery trucks across the way. Apparently, people complain on the pool side of having a view of a palm tree. This year, I should have such a horrible view. Guess diamond status doesn’t mean that much when assigning rooms because with the many tower rooms and the pool side rooms in the main building, I still got the delivery trucks view. Disappointing. Sigh.

I enjoyed every bit of my stay here. Right from the parking lot to the lobby, everything is made simple and easy. The pool is awesome and is opened late. The fact that you can walk out of your room to stroll along the galvaston beach make this place a great vacation destination.

I just returned home to Austin TX, after a weekend Getaway with my family. I paid 250/​night to stay at what I thought was a Hilton. I’v always only stayed at 5 star hotels/​resorts, (that is minus my college party years)-_-. Anyway, this hotel that carried the Hilton name is a fraud. They pose to represent a «Hilton» Quality experience but its merely a FACADE. I was disgusted and it had a negative impact on the overall vibe of our «getaway». Sure we enjoyed the island but the hotel stay was such a damper. The room above us leaked water from the balcony on to ours, so enjoying a balcony view of the Gulf was not included as promised. How do you enjoy a balcony when gross water drips on your head? How do you have an ocean view when the only view we faced was a parking lot. I paid for non-​smoking room, yet I see an ashtray on the desk. –_​-​. The ceiling is covered in old popcorn paint, chipping and missing patches. The bathtub imediately backed water up to our shin when we showered. The maid staff took our shampoos, washes and coffee and didnt replace them. They even walked in while we were in the room and the TV was on. The beds in our room were tiny full beds. I only do queen or king. My son got a bad crick in his neck from the cheap uncomfortable beds, and he actually missed school today, still having neck crick pain. I walked away from the front desk with my paid receipt for near $ 600, with an unsettling feeling inside that I got ripped off. I should have stayed at Red Roof Inn for this level of class and saved myself some shopping money. NEVER again will I EVER stay at that Hilton, and NOTHING will sway that. lol. Im disapointed that HILTON, INC. accepts the Galvestom Island Hilton, as one of your own. Next time Ill pay attention to Unilocal reviews. Oh, by the way, the one star I did give, is for the bartendee who made me one hell of a Pina Colada ;-)

Awesome experience! It’s a bit pricey, and I realized that they won’t let you book just one night out of the weekend during the summer, you have to book at least two nights.
My kids LOVE it! Proximity to the beach and the local attractions are what make this an excellent place to stay. The kids love the pool and the slides as well as being able to walk to the beach, and Rainforest Café.
The free transport around the sea wall is great as well.
Would totally recommend for a weekend getaway for single couples and families

The guest rooms in this hotel are not up to hilton standards. Let me tell you what is great first. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is conveniently located next door to the convention center, the pure grey sandy beaches and also a couple of good restaurants. The linens, toiletries and towels are all great. The food from room service, lobby bar and palms restaurant was excellent. Here is a list of things they should change:
The hallway carpets look like they are 25 years old and they were never once vacuumed during my stay. It was gross and unsanitary. The room was quite small, the ceiling was a hideous patchwork of water stains and poorly painted popcorn texture. The beds are old (2008) and cheap. The furniture in room is tattered and outdated. The drapes are ripped and the AC unit reeks of mold plus it is motion activated so it only goes on for about 30 minutes at a time unless you are pressing buttons. It is lovely to wake up in middle of night with sweats because AC unit is setup to save hotel owners money. I guess this is what menopause feels like. The TV is barely larger than a laptop screen and the remote only works from precise angles.
Overall this hotel has a lot of potential but I will stay somewhere else in future.

I came to Galveston for girls’ weekend over the Memorial Day weekend. We arrived on Thursday and checked out on Sunday. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and it looks like we got a freshly updated room, based on some of the comments other Unilocalers have made about décor and temperature issues.
The very best part of staying at the Hilton was the friendliness of the staff. Nearly every person we passed spoke, smiled, and wished us a great day. Beds were comfy and bedding looked to be clean, fresh and white. I appreciate the old-​school style a/​c units that blow loudly because it helps drown out some of the typical hotel noise. We didn’t find the walls to be thin; however we did hear a handful of folks late, late at night who may have imbibed a little too much and then came stumbling up to the room.
The pool is big and nice. It has a cool swim-​up bar, but the water was still plenty cool so I didn’t make it that far! The pool did get crowded and I wish there was a way that the towel check folks could help monitor those who just threw down a towel to come back to later. Given it was a holiday weekend, it seemed there were several seats that had towels nicely folded on them and nobody touching them over the course of several hours.
There’s a Landry’s and a Rainforest Café right next door. And given all of the folks trying to access the seawall, we did see the tow trucks working the lot, making sure that hotel guests had parking. We also saw hotel security keeping an eye on those parking in the lots, and Galveston Police Department was also seen in the lot, ensuring people were keeping out of the way of the flow of traffic. We really appreciated all of that effort!

Nun trennt nur noch eben dieser Seawall Boulevard das Hilton vom Meer. 2008 überstand das Hilton den Hurrikan Ike. Mit der wachsenden Popularität von Galveston baute das Hilton einen grossen neunstöckigen Anbau an das einst beschauliche Hotel und voila fertig ist das nette Strand– und Tagungshotel. Das Publikum ist meist amerikanisch, es sei denn es liegt eine Convention an, das San Luis Tagungszentrum ist nebenan. Businessmeetings drehen sich häufig um die ortsansässige Öl– und Chemieindustrie. Das Hotel bietet Blick auf den Golf von Mexiko und auf die auf Ihre Beladung wartenden Tanker und auf die auf Ihre Entladung wartenden Frachtschiffe. Wir blieben im älteren Teil des Hotels, das aber trotzdem sehr gut, modern und sauber gestaltet ist. Parken ist kostenlos, wie WiFi im Lobbybereich und am Pool auch.
Die Lage in Südtexas ist, wie ich finde kultig. Dies ist sicher der unbekanntere Teil des Golfs von Mexiko, aber nicht der unattraktive. Bis Houston sind es etwa 80 bis 100 Kilometer. Der Strand ist breit, die Wellen meerig und der Wind zu ertragen. Galveston selber ist eine eher beschauliche kleine Stadt, von Ölförderung und Fischerei bestimmt. Den Pelikanen kann man überall auf Galveston zuschauen. Ich mag es.
Der Seawall Boulevard bietet viele gute Möglichkeiten zum Essen und für Nightlife. Dazu gibt es in der Nachbarschaft Krogers und WalMart.
Service ist beim CkeckIn/​Out in Ordnung, aber nicht übermässig toll. Ich warte noch immer auf einen vergessenen Adapter, den ich im alten Zimmer stecken liess, da wir einmal umziehen mussten. Ich meldete das der Rezeption einen Tag nach Umzug, aber der Adapter bleibt verschollen. Schon eher die Frühstücksdamen sind der Kracher, besonders, wenn, wie allen Wochentagen, der Altherrenklub aus Galveston bei Kaffee und Eiswasser tagt. Sehr freundlich sind auch die Bell Boys, die vor dem Hotel ohne Rücksicht auf Verluste jedermann grüssen, mit texanischer Freundlichkeit.
Das Frühstück selber ist meist ein kontinentales Frühstück (mehr gab es nicht) und als dieses O.K., nicht mehr. Kaffee ist gut und wird gerne nachgeschenkt. Mir hat der Tomatensaft aus Büchse zum Frühstück gut geschmeckt. Der Toaster braucht allerdings gefühlte Jahre, bis der Toast braun ist. Joghurt gibt es ebenfalls reichlich. Alles insgesamt O.K., da auch nicht sehr viele Gäste zum Frühstück erscheinen.
Zu der Zeit, als wir da waren, wurde der Pool nicht bewirtschaftet sprich die Inpoolbar war leer, was auch selbverständlich war, denn es waren kaum Badegäste vor Ort. Meer und Pool waren frisch, aber man konnte doch am sonnigen Pool liegen und sich (o ja) einen ausgewachsenen Sonnenbrand holen. Am Pool stehen Flegelmöbel zum abhängen und wohlfühlen. Liegestühle, Sonnenschirme etc. waren kostenfrei.
Der Strand über den Seawallboulevard herüber ist sehr breit und wunderschön, aber es gibt wenige SonnenanbetendeMenschen. Wenn Viecher, dann eher Möven und Tauben.
Zimmer sind im gemütlichen grün gehalten, mit Plastikpflanzen, geräumig und mit bequemen Betten ausgestattet. Es gibt zwei Sitzmöglichkeiten mit Arbeitsecken/​Schminkmöglichkeiten. Leider ist die AC so laut, dass ein startendes Flugzeug neben dem Bett danach höchstens als angenehmes Nebengeräusch empfunden werden könnte. Alles in allem aber ein preis-​wertes Empfinden. Das Bad war in Ordnung, kleine amerikanische Wanne und die American Standard-​Armaturen wirken immer etwas veraltet. Ein Blick auf den Golf von Mexiko und den Pool gibt es vom Mini-​Balkon, auf dem aber immerhin zwei Stühle Platz haben.
Es gibt sicher elitärere Möglichkeiten in Südtexas zu übernachten, aber hier im Hilton Galveston geht es locker und unkompliziert zu und das Meer liegt direkt gegenüber. Hier bleiben.
