Pros: Has the greatest variety of meat cuts in all of Gainesville Cons: Only open on Fridays from 9am-5pm. Only accepts cash or check Bottom Line: If you want some of the freshest cuts in Gainesville, or are looking for exotic cuts you wouldn’t normally find anywhere else make sure to check here for all of your meat needs. Behold the meat gem of Gainesville that you never knew existed. Here at the glorious UF meat processing plant you can find all sorts of cuts you wouldn’t normally find in your normal grocery store. From pig head to beef tongue you can find all sorts of exotic cuts here. Not only that you can find some of the freshest cuts of fliet mignon, porterhouse, New York strip, etc. The first time I came the UF meat processing plant I was surprised by the size and cleanliness of the facility. This was the first time I had been to a meat processing plant so I thought I was going to see a bunch of butchers with large cleavers and blood stained aprons. Instead the produce section is one relatively small sized room with all sorts of wrapped cuts available. Everything is very clean and quite organized. I was pleasantly surprised to find the special of the week to be filet mignon at $ 11.99 versus a regular price of $ 17.99 at most other places. Unfortunately the store has limited hours(Friday 9am-5pm) and only accepts cash and check, thus if you want quality meat on a regular basis I’d head to Wards if you aren’t in the area. What’s particularly interesting is that you can even order an entire pig if you want! I’m definitely going to order one of those behemoths for my next tailgate. All in all this is definitely worth the trip if you are planning a meat lover’s night.
