I’m a newb when it comes to bikes so I was worried when my back wheel was making a rubbing sound and my back brake was hardly working. I came to Recycled Bicycles and had the absolute best experience. The very friendly guy(I think owner) that worked with me had both issues fixed faster than a blink of an eye and wouldn’t charge me for the service. He also offered me some very good advice about the type of bike I was riding but wasn’t a snob about it, didn’t make it seem urgent to change, and didn’t try to make any kind of sale. He just kept repeating that the important thing is that I continue riding and enjoy riding. What a great vibe!

I love giving this guy my money! I have three kids, and I’ve bought two bikes from him and had him do some work on the other. His prices are very reasonable and he does a great job of educating us. He does most of his selling to college students but still has time for our little family. I will warn you that it’s cash-only, but there are ATMs nearby.

I always get good and friendly service here, the services aren’t expensive and the owner is always welcome to offer helpful advice and expertise. I’ve never had a bad experience here and always rely on this place more than some other shops in town that are far less friendly.

I brought my bike here before school started, it needed a tune-up and a few small repairs. The repairs were done quickly and well, and the owner is a cool guy who works with you about price and stuff. I was waiting for my financial aid to be dispersed and when I took him my bike I told him I’d have to wait to pay him, asking if I could do it in installments or something. He told me not to worry about it, that I needed my bike and to pick it up and pay him whenever I got my financial aid. Great guy.

If it were possible to leave a zero-star review of Recycled Bicycles, I would. While two employees were initially helpful and friendly, the owner quickly inserted himself and provided the worst and most insulting customer service experience I have endured at any retail establishment. I was interested in spending money at this shop, but the rude, hostile, and offensive attitude convinced me to never visit or recommend this business.

Miles is a great guy. He will definitely work with you on price, whether in fixing you up with a used or new bike, or finding decent used parts for a repair if that’s appropriate. Sometimes it will take him a while to get to a repair, but for me it’s worth the wait as I trust him. In terms of buying a bike, I got a good deal on a new bike that had been clearanced to Miles from another bike shop, it’s worked well for me for several years. All the people who work there are well informed, but Miles is the one to look for, especially if purchasing.

The staff is incredibly helpful and you can’t beat the price. The service wasn’t always the most prompt, but the staff was always incredibly friendly and courteous. This was my go-to place for repairs in undergrad(if the SG student repair at the Reitz couldn’t take care of it), but unfortunately I didn’t discover it until my senior year. There was one instance where I had an accident with my bike and I took it in for repair initially at Chain Reaction(because it was practically on campus) and they told me it would be around $ 160 to repair and I should just get a new bike(a semester before I graduated). I took it to Recycled Bikes and they made it rideable again for $ 25! Amazing!

I came here with my roommate when we were just getting into cycling. My roommate had acquired an older vintage road bike from his father and was looking to replace some of the older parts. The owner insisted that the bicycle was very expensive to renovate and that the tire size(27″ x 1−¼″), was no longer produced and would be difficult to find. He then continued to insist that we purchase one of his newer«restored» road bikes for nearly 300 dollars, arguing that it would be a cheaper option. Discouraged, we left the store and went to the Schwinn store. To our surprise, Schwinn stocked the tires we were looking for, in 10 different colors! They informed us that the tire size was, in fact, still in production, while simply shaking their heads at the fact that this man insisted they were not. We replaced our parts for quite a bit cheaper than the«new» bike the Recycled guy offered us and walked away better educated, and with more money in our pockets.

Best shop in town. Finding a mechanic that you can trust is always great, especially when one makes the decision to invest in a «recycled’ vehicle rather than blow a wad on something new. That being said, if you are interested in a unique machine, this is the place to go. Niles helped me build a great bike and laid out all of my options at every step. He helped me rebuild my bike again after i was hit by a car. After I moved away from Gainesville, he helped me sell my bike. What more could I ask? Not sure where these negative reviews come from. Seems people are looking to deal with a salesman? If thats the case go down to Best Buy and tell someone in a blue shirt that you’re looking to spend a lot of money on a TV set or something.

Great place and friendly staff. It’s not a chain and the owner works for a living so if you need to be catered to by someone with a permasmile it’s probably not for you. I’ve only ever received honest advice and prices here and have even just dropped by to fill my tires up.

I was shocked to read these negative reviews after my experiences at Recycled Bikes… I first went into this shop when I was looking to buy a road bike, having no real knowledge about bikes. The owner explained different styles and price ranges to me and even showed me some pictures in catalogs. I ended up buying one online because he didn’t have anything short enough for me. I have brought it in every time i needed any help, and it has always been a pleasant experience.. Whether its a simple flat change or a major tune-up, the bike always runs great after he’s gotten a chance to fix it up. Sometimes the shop gets really busy and you have to come back for the bike later, but its worth the wait. Great place to go to increase your biking knowledge and experience! I never go anywhere else!

I brought in my husband’s bike to get his brakes fixed and also to buy a used bike for myself. The worker barely gave me any attention, making me feel like I was bothering him. He didn’t try to sell me a bike or I’m sure I would have bought one. I didn’t get a great vibe. My husband went back to pick up the bike and it had not been worked on yet. When my husband brought home his bike, only the front brake was fixed. Now I have to take the bike back, or somewhere else, to fix the rear brake. Why would a mechanic just fix one brake? I don’t want my man flipping over the handlebars!

I’ve been here twice. Once, when I was new to the town and just discovering University Avenue past 13th. Recycled Bikes was the first bike shop I found and went in looking for something to get me around, figuring it would be cheap. Since I was desperate for a bike, I settled for an old Murray road bike. I ended up getting ripped off; the bike’s flaws started showing up a couple of days later. Whatever, I won’t blame them for wanting to cash into the naïve freshman market. I later went into the place to get a new inner tube for the bike. This time, they weren’t very nice. I’ll agree with other reviewers that it wasn’t a real pleasant experience. Aside from the fake pleasantries with an undercurrent of snarkiness(which I can tolerate), they gave me an attitude that kind of shocked me. Needless to say, I never went back. Ended up finding another bike shop further down where the atmosphere was definitely better. Actually, one time I had a conversation with an ex-R.B. guy who told me why he ended up quitting, and why I did right in not going back.

I agree with some of the others… the owner is challenging. Lucky we dealt with the nice guy that works there and he compensates a lot, plus the owner wasn’t there for most of the interaction. We got a very nice bike for my daughter for under $ 100, which was less then Target, etc. for the same type. Love the concept, just unfortunately it seems you have to deal with some unstable personalities when you want to be green.

The owner is extremely rude and hostile. He excuses himself saying that he has a big enough clientel to not have to impress you if you rub him the wrong way. Do not come here to buy a recycled bike seat. You will be coaxed into buying a new seat despite them being available and then have a wrath unleashed upon you when you insist on buying used. Save your time and go somewhere else.
