ROP Culinary Arts Institute – Lunch

My sister goes here for culinary arts. I can see that they work very hard and they not only teach their students about the art of baking but also teach discipline, organization, and social skills. My sister has learned a lot from these classes and wishes to continue her goal of becoming a pastry chef. I’m glad these classes are often offered for free or little cost. It’s definitely something you’d want to check out if you’re in high school or on a tight budget.

The lunch is actually being held in the classroom. It’s only limited time and each dining session has different menu. For $ 7.95 + tip, it’s a 4-​course sitdown meal on Tuesday but buffet on Thursday, 11am to 1pm. This particular session will only run until May 22, 2008. You might want to call for more information. The session is only 1 seating and first come first serve. If you have more than 5 people, you can make reservation.
My friend was nice enough to make reservation for 8 people. Half of my party got there a little late. Prior to getting seated, you are required to pay first, there’s a tip jar next to the cashier. I just paid the tip after dining at the table.
Keep in mind, these are high school student taking ROP classes. Try not to be too hard on them! My server got my side dishes mixed up but it was ok. It was so cute when he was said «Damn it, I got it wrong». My friend asked for lemonade, he brought out lemon instead. It was cool. Interesting experience.
The 4-​course meal include soup, salad, entrée, and dessert. Drink is included. Since the menu may vary, I am just going to give you my general impression. Soup was good. Just missing okra since it’s supposed to be gumbo. I like the salad dressing on a quartered romaine lettuce. Very tasty and nice presentation. My entrée was a stuffed roll chicken. It’s a little blend for my taste and the chicken is a little overcooked and dry. My dessert was apple slices marinated in red wine. This is good! The red wine isn’t too overpowering. It’s my regular work lunch, if it gets too alcoholic, I probably won’t be able to type up this review just right after I had the lunch!
Overall experience was pleasant. A few mix-​up here and there. Oh yea, the croutons were super hard like rock but it’s not oily like the kind you get in some of the restaurants. Looks like it’s made fresh. Food was decent afterall, they are high school students but it’s nice to come out and give them a little support.
